Trail Blaze HQ, Duran's hut is on the mountain, so was a perfect meeting spot. Almost too perfect, so much so we made the meeting time 8am and only made it to the trails at 11 haha.
Getting the toys ready. Justin unknowingly practicing a surprise trick for later in the day, such a surprise, he didn't even know it was coming.
After lots of bike fixing, waiting for stragglers and procrastination, we eventually got to the top. Chilling with the best view and the best guys... doesn't get much better!
Duran is chief builder at Helderberg and transformed into chief Rasta to blaze the trails extra hard! Being careful not to get stoned in the rock garden!
"Bringing the fun back into MTB in the super serious times of Enduro, lightweight, wheel size, matching kit, with the biggest shredders!" - Justin
At the end of summer the trails turn to talcum powder! Roman getting stuck in and finding landmines with his metal detector.
Getting lost in a cloud, the dust was hanging in the air and trains were a visual challenge. The boys eyes were getting more and more red and closed as the day went on.
"I don't even remember doing a photoshoot? I do know that I'm motherloving hungry now though!" - Doobran
Lunch break and bike maintenance, Theo is amazing on his bike, but you might want to ask someone else to turn your tyre around haha.
Laying it over out of the shark fin. This section of the trail is like the most fun rollercoaster. Berm City.
Justin getting some extra height out of the shark fin just before throwing his back wheel over my head.
As the sun started to set, the wind dropped almost completely. Back to the jumps for the last light. Justin loves synchronized shots and I always get scared, because we often do them in the best light and they can take a while to get the spacing dialed in and I don't want to waste light. With the boys it's never a problem and after doing three in the last few years with him, we have a clean second go success rate and this was no different.
The warm up session on the jumps earlier got them so comfy that tricks started making their way in more seriously, that and the sky was outdoing itself, going from cold pastels to the warmest craziest colours. Mother nature knows how to show off in Cape Town.
Low light, flash and epic skies... I was in my happy place and the boys were too, smashing run after run.
Couldn't get enough of that sky! The clouds reflected so much light the session went on 15min longer than it should have. We were treated to not only blazing trails, but the sky was ablaze for us too.
"Just a couple friends getting together to roost turns and send hucks for the love of riding bikes, with the best photographer and videographer to document the radness." - Justin
Whips in front of a sky on fire is the only way our first installment of trail blaze could have ended.
One last shot with all the boys before it was pitch black and Justin cracking a massive one-foot table over the crew!
