As part of the Winelands region of South Africa, the greater Stellenbosch area features an abundance of trails, one of which is the Bottelary Hills trails network. Covering a total of 76km, these trails offer scenic beauty and incredible views of the winelands, Table Mountain and False Bay, and combines a variety of different elements to form a well rounded MTB destination. The network can be accessed from 7 different starting points, all of which sell day passes and something to eat or drink, and it also happens to be a few hundred meters from my doorstep.
Thanks to Canyon, Matthieu got a brand new ride only a few days before, and was keen to put it through its paces. As with our previous outing, we started early and was at the trail head at dawn, ready to experience the first flowy piece of single track that descends into the valley...
"
In the last month, two of our most popular mountain bike destinations have been severely burnt by huge wild fires. People have lost their houses, some of our precious wildlife lost their lives and mountain bikers lost our wonderful trails. As heartbreaking as it is to see, we know this is all part of the circle of life and we know the damage will be repaired, given time. Thankfully, we have many other trail networks around Cape Town to make use of in the mean time! The Bottlery trails provide us with some great cross country riding with ever expanding option of trails." ~

When we think about Cape Town, we think about wine and vineyards. What could be more logical than riding these tracks during the harvesting period, in order to smell the morning parfume of these plants a last time before the crop goes in the tank. This ride was also for me the opportunity to ride my new Canyon Strive, and the least we can say is that I can't wait for the next rides! This bike makes everything faster and easier, in uphills as well as downhills." ~
