That landing jump is wearing the largest pair of black panties I've ever seen!

A BMX will boost higher and can be thrown around more, but suspension forks are really nice when you're old and stiff. In later life, he'll go back to MTB.

LOL "started on MTB & then went to BMX", i.e. went backwards.

A BMX won't boost higher on bumpy terrain & it won't handle the landings as well or offer the stability in bigger airs. That's why MTBs jump so much bigger in general. The maneuverability is moot if you have more air to maneuver, it's just a matter of time until the best athletes get comfortable enough with MX sized airs & BMX tech tricks.

Nearly 20, that means he's 19, only a year older than me but I could only dream of being that good.

I still dont get why someone needs a DJ bike when you can do all of this with a much cheaper BMX... The money that you save can go towards bettering your trail/DH/enduro bike where the bells and whistles actually do make a huge difference.

A DJ bike is basically a big, more forgiving BMX. they are less twitchy in the air and usually have a sus fork to soak up dodgy landings. also DJ bikes are more all-round than BMX's. I have done street, park, trails and some light DH on my DJ bike as well as jumps so for someone who can only afford one bike a DJ bike is better if you want to ride more than jumps street and park.

What more could I ask for in an answer? Thanks for that Smile

But with being said.... What is better for tricking? Money no object, I've heard arguments from many saying that BMX is more versatile in that department... But if that were the case then surely the FMB boys would be playing with them instead? what advantages would DJ's have at that level over BMX? I can see in slopestyle where that rolling resistance of a bigger wheel might make a difference for keeping speed up but the bigger bike size must surely compromise the tricking part... I'm curious bout this and cant get my mind around it.

In my opinion tricks just look better on a bigger bike. Yeah it's cool watching guys doing crazy shit on bmx's but when there's more bike being thrown around I think it looks more impressive, plus you know it's that bit harder. For instance a 360 or a backflip is a fairly standard trick now in bmx but if you see someone doing it on a big mountain/dh bike it's still relatively mind blowing, just my opinion but I hope it helps.

DJ bikes are better for jumps that aren't always perfectly shaped and manicured as you can potentially carry speed.better, also for people (like myself) who are used to DH or any kind of mountain bike BMXs can sometimes feel too small and uncomfortable to ride and especially hit decent sized jumps on

Having ridden both BMX and MTB for a number of years I can say now that I prefer the MTB because I like to ride faster and I like the stability of a longer, bigger bike. I am tempted to get another BMX every day because they are so much easier for just jibbing around and little tech tricks/lines but I would still keep the MTB for fast riding and bigger stuff. It's all personal preference. I hate how twitchy and small a BMX feels especially at speed.

Bmx bikes are sketch as hell to jump/ride period but if you stop riding those death traps and start mountain biking you'll be less likely to get hurt.

(I got more hurt in my years of riding my bmx bike then my years of mountain biking so far lol!)

In all honesty from BMX I have broken a finger, had 2 concussions, been knocked out once for long enough for the paramedics to arrive before I woke up, torn ligaments in my ankle and had to have stitches in my eyebrow at one point. Though riding an MTB I've just had the usual cuts, scrapes and bruises, nothing serious. I'll take my health over the few tech things I can only do on a BMX!
