That was a solid video. I think it is a great kickoff to get a bit more technical now that you covered the basics. A few things come to mind. 1. Showing:explaining how adjustments a rider makes externally impact the oil flow (compression/rebound). Especially the relationship between adjustments, how one affects the other(s) and why ( show the internals exactly the way Jordi did ). 2. I’d love to see examples from too dh racers from previous years to help relate the application of base settings, dyno and then real world qualitative testing and then full circle. ( dyno ). 3. Future around emerging technologies... ( or old ) like dynamic / speed sensitive valving / active suspension and even futures where data can be utilized in near real time. E.g. geo specific, temperature, pressure, speed, torq etc. I can’t get enough of this !!

I ride a Formula Selva fork, it is awesome, you can change the CTS in about two minutes. So you can custom tune the compression way quicker.

Right now its treats for nerds. Even experienced riders can't really tell you in detail what a particular compression tune does in terms of what happens at the contact patch, they just know what feels right and what doesn't, and really, thats the part about suspension tune that is the most important.

I personally want to see some IMU data from on-bike testing when someone says "component x does y better".

Is it possible to get different tune configurations? Does fox or rockshox provide this? I could see reducing rebound damping for lighter riders in my family. For example for a light tune you need “these sizes” in this order.

The DHX2 Shock in the video has a gigantic rebound range, I dynoed it recently and was surprised how much useful spread I found in there. Even for quite light riders the base adjuster range is (normally) sufficient but you can still change the shim stack behind the VVC system.

It is a very good shock. For the shim based shocks you can get different tunes through FOX Service Centers or the usual suspends from push to avalanche.

There is a software called shim restackor, you can plug in the numbers and see what individual shims do. Motorcycle Supension bible also is a good reference.

Does it ever get to the point for pro riders (since Fox sponsors such a wide range) that Jordi has to change/modify the actual damper piston/ports or us a different weight oil?

Pretty much everytime they mention they prepared a *special* shock for a rider. It is either:

A) prototype unit in development phase that will be released next april with N+1 modelyear markings
B) custom shimstack to change when low/high overlap or change - and how much, maybe diff oil
C) placebo to keep riders happy that Jordi did something good for them

This is bringing back bad memories of having to rebuild my shock after two from my stack snapped last week. Went in for a BB replacement, ended up with a new chain, cassette, retensioned wheel, and a rebuilt shock.
