New UK Bike Park: The 417 Project

by Fraktiv
After a year of blood, sweat and tears, Flyup Downhill are finally announcing The 417 Project, the biggest privately owned mountain bike facility in the UK.

The hundred acres of land houses six downhill tracks from blue to black grade, supported by the slick uplift service you’ve come to expect from Flyup. A World Cup standard 4X track and Dual Slalom run will also be serviced by the country’s first MTB drag lift. The Jump bag, freeride area and two acre dirt jump arena will no doubt be enough to entice every rider. For those seemingly more frequent rainy British days and dark winter nights, there are two separate indoor riding barns, totalling over 1,100 square metres. There will be a café, bike shop and workshop on site too, making sure you can keep fuelled and keep riding.

So where is this place...it’s probably in the middle of nowhere? Nope. The 417 Project is only four minutes from Junction 11a of the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire, 40 minutes from the Forest of Dean and an hour and a half from West London. With a Premier Inn hotel just 500m down the road, it’s a no-brainer to spend a weekend with FlyUp, with the Forest of Dean and The 417 Project on the doorstep.

However, The 417 Project isn't your usual trail centre or bike park, they really do have it all. You will be able to arrive with any genre of mountain bike and be able to have a ton of fun on some of the best trails the UK has to offer.

Flyup aim to open the park in Autumn 2014, and initial construction has been in progress for two months. Flyup have chosen to use Indiegogo Crowd Funding to raise the final amount needed and to give people a chance to get involved in helping us realise the last little bits of the project, and you can find a link to their project here: igg.me/at/the417project

Spread the word about The 417 Project. To find out more, contact simon@flyupdownhill.co.uk or angela@flyupdownhill.co.uk.

Really excited about this , every time I drive up that hill I look at that open part on the right and think what an amazing bank to build trails on , and now it's happening , I hope they make a proper big bike jump line , this country is lacking a really big jump line big time.

Just ride natural trails; the Lakes are awesome for epic riding... don't need a bike park to have fun up there!

5 minutes from my house yes !!!!

seems like best place to live in England for mtb is welsh valleys/Gloucester/Worcester/Shropshire/brummy area cos you're near these 2 big ass bike parks as well as revolution. North west England is wank. I like natural riding but sometimes you just want a thrash around on some jumps and get on an uplift

Cock hill is in the north west as is farmer johns. Shame there isn't more, we need an uplift!
  • 1 0
there's plenty of riding in the north west it's just a case of finding it

re the North, I'm sure I saw something recently about an indoor place being built in Middlesbrough or Sunderland. North East anyway, old industrial units. Looked like it's going to be pretty sick. Not quite as sick as this place though.

This has got to be the sickest new development in uk mtb for quite a while... uplift spots are sick as it is but this adds in indoor barns for year - round dry conditions, 4X, dual slalom and even a drag lift! This is just going to be next level stuff!

Just need some local councils now to follow this lead and start developing abandoned industrial parks and buildings, indoor riding lets have more please, especially with our climate. It's a potential gold mine, if i had a big lotto win i'd certainly look into it. Well done all who are involved.

looks good. As much as i love Scotland for riding, its a shame and a pity that our sky centers dont do what they do world wide and open up for the MTB's in the summer! about time scotland got more centers. I love the wild riding though. Would be nice if we got some more.

I guess this is what 10 years of moaning about the UK not having bike parks gets you.. one 5 mins drive away! So sick. Its all well and good talking about this kind of project but another to step up and do it!! Plus if Tom is building the dirt then it will be sick...

I honestly don't think any average british rider would mind riding in the rain, as long as it's not like storming and flooding...

Does anyone know when/if Gawton uplift will restart?
  • 2 0
I think they are just doing some, much needed, maintenance and will be re-opening them at some point.
  • 2 0
From what ive heard the gawton driver is no longer working for them, but this is what ive heard
  • 1 0
Amaaazziiinggg. Can't wait. It's going to be rammed with people
  • 1 2
What do they need an uplift for, what's the altitude gain, 100 m? Good for them and all that, but doubt I'll travel down more than once.
  • 1 0
Given that it's not the highest of hills but I know and have walked the woods they intend to build in and they are huge and plenty of space to zig zag down. The terrain is knarly and isn't just straight down Smile
  • 1 0
Ta. I'll give it a go, just won't watch any Whistler vids for a few weeks beforehand Wink
  • 1 0
sending money ! can't wait ....super exhited..
