Race fans sorry for the delay. Problems with a timing glitch meant all times were provisional until confirmed for the 19:00 podium. Followed by the big clean up before dark. What takes three days to set up had to come down in 3hrs. Plus there's only 4 of us! Bad internet and the PB media team had to drive back to London meant a lack of updates. I'm driving through the night now, 8hr drive. No sleep so will unpack the van and keep you updated via the Wonders of the Web!
Damn, you really do seem to have to do everything for these downhill riders/teams Si. Thanks for the update! I don't think anyone was aware on this forum that there was timing issues. I blame the internet!
Ridiculous how I could wAtch the Belgian champs on extreme but nothing of our home race. Neg prop all you guys like, the lack of coverage nowadays at this level is poor.
What happened to blenki and bruni? I see blenki didnt do his quali but bruni quali'ed third. Both them didnt do race runs either?....
Danny hart also tore gee apart in the top section but had a mistake in the middle and he quali'ed 1st! Very excited to say the least for the WC in june. 'MON THE HECKLE
@minty1...so 6 articles, 2 videos, 2 prototype bikes reviewed from 2 top brands and PB-exclusive interviews with some of the top riders and team managers in the world, all from just 4 of us isn't good enough for you?
You seem to think I'm having a pop at you personally! I'm not!! I realise your doing the best you can,my point is there doesent seem to be much coverage in general, any other sport at this level would be massively covered by tv radio etc etc, which seems to be the case in most other countries.
Hey, nothing taken personally at all. We all want to see more of this on national-level sport reporting - BBC Wales did do some coverage from BDS Round 1 at Antur Stiniog - but it's hard competing with football coverage in the UK!
Fookin hell lads, calm down!! In my day we had to wait till mbuk came out a month later to get race results. Unless you knew someone racing, you had to wait!
If your that bothered about results get your arse to the events, or shut up and wait!!
Nearly back!! Just note Fort Bill has no phone signal let alone 3/4G. Same for Ae Forest so again please be patient for that event as we're not magicians! And again apologies!!
Manon was held up by two non elite women she caught on the final motorway section... understandably pissed off that she couldn't get past, but it happens.
Piss poor coverage from everyone involved in the BDS a twitter update is easy, atherton racing saying they got a 1-2 with gee and Slugger is wrong, they got 1st and 3rd
Hate to say it as I used to love them, but since Billy "the web" left dirt a year or 2 ago, their online presence has been very poor... They still have great original content, bu they are way behind on reporting stories.
I am very chilled, just think it's pretty pathetic in today's age of instant social networking that coverage is so poor. I would like to see the BDS thrive and get bigger and better, think it will improve all the talent we have on our little island.
That won't happen if they can't even get the results out let alone some live images, timing updates
Agree. Even club races and the State series over here has live timing. For the calibre of riders in BDS you'd expect greater community interest and therefore a need for some sort coverage. Doesn't have to be film, but live timing isn't hard and should be a minimum.
Exactly, it takes two minutes to tweet, facebook or instagram a picture of the results. I understand things might be busy at the end of a race but its half 9 now, at least 3 hrs after the end of the race and we are all still in the dark. #firstworldproblems
Do you want to try and organise the BDS series then? If any of you follow either the BDS/Si Paton you will know he puts in work all year round for the series, and he worries about more important things than feeding the desires of impatient arseholes who think its their god given right to know the results as soon as they happen. How about you pull your fingers out your holes and go and watch the races and do something helpful? And while your there, post results on twitter if you really must, f*cksake
ever tried navigating the BDS website? it's awful, as are most of the UK race series websites. You would think someone would have gotten it sussed by now.
Kendow, I understand your frustrations with people and I do appreciate all the hard work that goes into a BDS event. I went to the Innerleithen one last year and it was excellent. BUT in this day and age to help the sport grow it needs good media coverage and that includes getting the results to the people who cannot make the 6hr+ drive to Fort Bill .
Now the feed I can understand why it never went ahead and its a great shame but a simple tweet to get the results out there would be appreciated. Thats all we are saying
Ever tried to look at the positives in things? Look at the start list this weekend, you cant much more exposure than the top 30 riders from all over the world coming to race your event. Who cares about twitter feeds when you have a market like that?
Sponsors want exposure, that's the point of sponosorship. No exposure = no sponsors = no bds. It's not just keeping us impatient arseholed happy, it's keeping the sponsors and manufacturers happy so we still have a race series
How is downtime in getting the results up gonna result in less exposure for sponsors?
Surely taking some time to put up a decent, formatted results post with all sponsors mentioned would give far more exposure for the sponsors than a quick tweet.
Working your ass off all year doesn't mean your doing things right. Not saying he's the right person or not for the job but somethings not quite right when they claim it's the world's premier dh series.
To be fair, I can see peoples points here with regards to pretty poor coverage. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that its £80 to enter each event (320 riders @ £80 = £25,600) or the standard race fee of £60 (320 riders @ £60 = £19,200)
so thats a big old pot of money per event, yes, you have insurance, set up costs, travel. At the same time though, you have cars paying £5 per car to park, along with money from sponsors and trade stalls at events (which I believe are also not cheap!) You're looking at probably a £30k+ budget for each event. Would it be absolutely impossible to have someone on hand, all weekend, maybe paid the same £80 as the marshals to post live updates, seeding times, race run times etc. its not a massive job and would make such a massive difference to the coverage of 'the worlds premier downhill series'
The problem with live feed at Fort William is big problem on a course as long, But could be done with a lot of help.
But think about dragging cables the length of the course and keeping feed working in bad weather then you may start to realise how hard it is.
Look forward to see cam footage after standing marshalling and only seeing one section
Yesterday's problem explained by the timing company.
On behalf of our timing team, I would like to apologise to yourself and all riders for the inconvenience and frustration that our delays caused you yesterday. You all deserve a smooth, uncomplicated service when you contract us to manage the event timekeeping, and the 40 minute delay incurred was unacceptable.
We believe that you deserve an explanation for the delay which occurred when a critical software error whilst preparing start list for run 2 left us frantically analysing the issue and attempting to resolve it. Unfortunately the team could not rectify the problem swiftly and thus set about setting up another database in order to continue with racing.
I’m sure you know that technical problems are aspects of any business, but that does not change the fact that your schedules and plans were irreparably altered.
We can report that this issue had no effect on the results or timing data and although we are still not able to access run times for a handful of the riders in the Expert Class for the seeding run we are working hard to resolve that and ascertain exactly what caused the problem in order to rectify this and return to provide the professional level of service we strive to provide to the Series and riders.
Once again, a full apology to yourself, riders and staff for the delay.
Not weird - an unfortunate example of social media does the opposite of good. Si (who organises it) put out an FB post a week or so ago and it said this: "apologies we had about 1% of Red Bulls budget and did it out the back of my van on a shoestring. Of course it was a bit rough around the edges but it was a start. Problem was all the negative comments meant no sponsors wanted to invest in the live stream. Without investment we couldn't improve it so I pulled the plug. Sorry fella. Si.." A real shame because BDS could be a real media event with so many top riders entering. Ah well, perhaps someone with some media skills will volunteer to do it for a while.....
There were plenty of people slagging off the stream last year on PB with the feed not starting bang on time and there only being 2 camera angles etc. Now we have nothing........
Well done PB trolls!!!!!!
Very disappointing coverage considering that the bds is considered to be one of the premier downhill championships of the world.
The coverage of round 1 was superb from a lot of mtb media outlets, possibly local IT connections are at fault.
We're talking about a national series with the world's best entering, coverage was non existent! I understand it takes time and money, but surely a kid with a smart phone can send a tweet! That's all that was needed!
Ok I was there helping with coverage. There is no phone signal at Fort William and the Wifi is horrific. Also we have jobs that we do during the week with most of the coverage providers living 8-10 hours away from Fort William. Podium was at 7 most of us had pits to pull down then on the road back to life and other commitments including emails and stuff we couldn't do at fort William that takes a priority because that's how we pay for the joy of being at races to bring you the coverage . So. If it's a day or two after the race it will be good, well thought out coverage that you can damn well thank us for because during this weekend while most have gone out and riding bikes or seen family and friends we have been running round a mountain in the pissing rain trying to do the best job we can to entertain you for 15 minutes on your Tuesday...that'll do.
WTF last yr pink bike showed all the race live. sucks was looking forward to watching it live ugh.Give props to gee but was wanting to see rayboy or troy baby win and my old fav sam hill win. on women's side what happened to rach she crash out have injury? also is steve smith still out with injury? come on pink bike so week you took pic of results couldn't even do a real print out of results. oh well i got up early got my ride in so could watch only sport i wanna watch live.does anyone know of sight can watch dh wc races live i googled but couldn't find one
I leave pinkbike for two days, for my Duke of Edinburgh and all the news I want comes, all my subscribed forums go crazy. Starting to think i should just leave....

Always the ones that organise f@ck all and just take that complain!
Bare in mind if the likes of Si and crew didn't do what they are doing you wouldn't have a BDS series!
Congratz to Gee-man anyway.. this man is really tough!
pardon moi.
Cos I know who you are... oooo
Also we've had two videos and a round up article, all of which have been good.

If I was in the Sunday Times rich list, I'd use some of that money to promote/broadcast DH to the masses.
