I know exactly what I'll be doing come Sunday afternoon, blowing off the girlfriend and watching it live here on Pinkbike! We all know how serious the terrain can be at Rampage, but these photos really do show just how far things have come. Gnarly terrain, wood senders and massive gaps, and a mix of the worlds best slopestyle and big mountain shredders. What do you guys thing the outcome will be? Put your bets down below!

Also make sure to catch the LIVE webcast of the Finals on Oct. 3rd at Noon PST on Pinkbike.

Nice photos, Fraser! It looks burly there, but I know that it is even more man-sized that the pics let on. I remember seeing photos and watching vids of the first few comps and thinking "maybe..." then driving down and being "uh, no..."! Looking forward to more updates!

'Blowing off the girlfriend and watching it live here on Pinkbike'

Really?

I'd be getting her to blow you off whilst wtching it live here on Pinkbike.

Happy days!
:P
  • 2 0
 Haha that was low...

What would one have to do to be confronted by the black helicopter? That shit sounds serious.
  • 7 0
you'd be getting your girlfriend to blow him off?!? hahahaha!
  • 6 2
There are so many Canadians participants that you would think it's happening in Canada, lol. GO CEDRIC!!!
  • 1 0
Haha good point mantis. Fail on my part.
  • 1 0
this is gonna b so badass!!!
  • 2 0
i hope theres alot of slowmo of this event Should be so fucking rediculously sick
  • 2 0
why are my legit comments ALWAYS removed?
  • 2 1
 because they arent legit?
  • 7 0
Can't wait for this. I hope that my internet magically goes insanely fast so there is no lag when it comes on live......
  • 1 0
Crazy Venue, unfortunately IMO the stunts tricks will get all the attention, not the steep tech lines, thus making it more like a slopestye comp. What chance does a rider have of winning if his line doesn't include the wood?? Sickest line will be Berecloth. Just my $0.02 worth.
  • 1 0
Mark my words, sickest line will be Kenny Smith.
  • 5 0
scared the shit out of me just looking at those senders...
  • 7 0
 seriously, this competition is ridiculous.
  • 3 0
Think i'd sooner take on the black unmarked helicopter and some untested rockets than send it off some of those features!!! Jesus those guys are nuts!!! Can't wait for the finals though!
  • 3 0
Damn, The day it is on ill be in whistler for the first time in my life! i guess its a far trade off. Someone record it for me haha!
  • 1 0
The rocket site is actually where they first developed ejection seats by launching monkeys off the mesa and hoping their parachutes opened, true story. 2 more days of digging to go before we start to see some serious riding go down.

nice photos, exciting event, but my opinion of your written captions following most of the photos is quite low, enough to make me need to comment on it. try to take it as constructive criticism, and not a personal attack, but knowing full well the audience to which you are addressing, i think you could extend yourself beyond the gratuitous profanities and unecessary jabs at some of the forum "rats" opinions about the event and its competitors. its apparent that you are stoked about the event, and i'm glad you are there to share it with us- we are lucky to have PB involved. and personally, I could care less about your writing style, but you should endeavour to develop your written work to reach a level that is consistent to your high level photography.
  • 5 1
I thought the captions were spot on. The photos are of such a quality that they speak for themselves, but its cool to read the raw impressions from someone that is actually at the event. I've been to the RBR before, and "regular language" - while appropriate, does not convey the intensity of the situation there. This is not the PGA tour, or brunch with Tad and Muffy. Its the freakin' Red Bull Rampage Wink And the forum rats comment was right on too - people get very wound up about stuff in there - including me - I was (still am) a critic of the wooden features and sensationalized stunts like the Icon sender, but I can appreciate the effort. After all, I'm not the one riding them. And nobody is putting a gun to the riders head forcing them to ride something they don't want to anyhow. Keep up the great work - Cheers!
  • 3 0
ROcket launching monkeys! Wow, I had no idea. As for the comments, they've been rolled back a bit. The crew is just really excited about this year's event - well actually every Red Bull Rampage to date, so the captions reflected this. We'll do what we can to hold back on some of the profanities.
  • 1 0
I'd just like to point out that I didn't write the captions in their current form.
  • 1 0
Oh, and as for my written style (when i write things), I have a degree in journalism. I've definitely written more press releases and magazine articles than most ever will.
  • 1 0
Crap, the comments need an edit button. There is a trail up on that mesa called Flying Monkey, now you know why.
  • 1 0
Holly monkeys!!!!! Why do people get so serious and feel the need to write serious commemts on the fact that they do not like ur writing style!!????!! Weird stuff! Guarenteed if those people where there hangin with them they would be feeling different, the energy and rush of just being up close to these guys is just nuts! Chill out dudes! Will pb cut out the flying monkeys? I may be offended and feel a strong urge to write a long serious comment about it for everyone to laugh at...

What's the deal with digging at rampage? Are riders allowed to build their own lines? And then are other riders allowed to use/steal them for their own use? Seems like some riders could just wait for others to do the hard work for them...
  • 4 1
I suppose, but dont you think your best chance at winning is to plan and build your own lines? Using lines you didnt conceive wouldnt be the best way imo. That being said, yes certain lines will be used by many riders, some wont. Watch the video from the last Rampage to learn the routine.
  • 1 1
You want to be the guy who steals another guys line? You realize professional aren't scrawny wussies right? Enjoy the fist to your face if you try to play like it was all your idea and steal another guy's thunder. This is their job and their livelihood on the line. It would be like taking $5000 out of someone's pocket...
  • 1 0
They r all buddies, they dig together and chat bout it, very friendly people...
  • 4 0
 1st Berrcloth 2nd Atherton 3rd Aggassiz
  • 6 6
nice photos, and photo-journalism there guys, but can you tone down the testosterone a little bit in the captions?! Sounds like you just took a double dose of anabolic steroids and washed it down with a case of Red Monster(TM). And have a few extra patches on your testicles for good measure. I understand you gotta convey the "raw energy" of the place, but there has to be a middle ground no?!
  • 3 0
It has now been toned down. This event is a HUGE deal and we got a little excited.
  • 2 0
People gettin' all worked up like Sesame Street viewers. It's Rampage! No middle ground!
  • 3 1
maybe, but I'd like to think not. I just found the captions weren't up to the usual standard of the two authors. I guess I've grown accustomed to higher standards from them. But it's funny, I've kinda always assumed that most PB readers were just barely out of the Sesame Street age bracket!
  • 1 0
OK, I can appreciate your high standards, and obviously Pinkbike agrees with you! Apparently Sesame Street is for grownups too (according to them) and I watch when I can!
  • 1 0
i don't think they're taking the "mountain" out of it(yet). It seems they're bringing a little bit of the Shore to the desert. As long as it doesn't turn into a woodward camp I think it's gonna always be scary mountain.
  • 1 0
Damn, a scary mountain - YES but the senders are just as scary too. Its not like a little bit of shore... its HUGE! Mad props going out to all the riders... I know that at least 99% of PB users would crap themselvs if they even stood at the top and contemplated riding it.
  • 1 0
 - Will White, the rawest PBer ever. Cant wait to see his run!!!
