Pinkbike knows a dumb video like this is gona get everybody fired up and commenting on how shitty it is. comments gets more people to click on the video and more clicks give them more and more advertising money. Some of the dumbest articles and videos on here get the most comments and people wana see what all the fuss is about.
I clicked on it as I wanted to see the comments so it's definitely true that people do that. I dislocated my shoulder doing exactly what this video says to do. I'm surprised pinkbike is posting this stuff.
i was surprised that pinkbike would put a video with such dangerous instructions on it. I know they can post some garbage occasionally(knowingly) but this is next level. I don't see how this video could have a positive impact on anybody's riding.
Very disappointed. Whoever made this video should be apologizing for pretending that they know anything at all about DH drops and jumps. They need to quit their job and open a dress shop.
At least the vids are short. Fir a while I figured there was a joke coming. Maybe Rob Warner would jump out in a dress beat this guy with flower basket or something.
If Skoda is paying for this, than I can tell you this is the worst adv for the car, btw we had one Skoda Jetty and a lot of electrical issues was, NO MORE SKODA
Worthless video to say the least. I'll be extra careful not to bend my legs next time I go off a jump because I know how much I like to have an old fashioned self inflicted OTB!
Whenever i see someone struggling on a jump, its normally because their legs are straight. When i tell them to keep a bend in their legs they always come back and saw, wow that's much easier.
There are defiantly many occasions where straight legs are good but its something that expert riders do during big g-forces to get extra boost.
"Something that expert riders do" Exactly why it shouldn't be in a video that is teaching the very basics. This technique should be taught later on when a rider can actually understand how it can effect the bikes take off/ flight. Like I said this video missed the mark by MILES when it comes to teaching anything that will be valuable on the trail. Fabien Barel had some instructional videos earlier this year or last year that were much better and had tons of valuable info.
Rubbish instruction video. Common Pinkbike, keep your standards up! That's how you got to be the most popular/trusted source for mtb info. Allowing an advertiser to pay you to post something that you know is useless is how you'll end up going down hill in the respect department.
PinkBike is a business and they can do whatever they want. But if they start posting too much crap like this, and I have to start wading through the site like it is MTBR, I'll stop coming here multiple times per day.
I'm all for people trying to help out with informative videos to help the general readership... but now this particular series has annoyed me enough to comment! As someone who trains instructors how to teach jumps and drops in Whistler and around the world, and has been teaching this stuff for nearly 20 years, this video is just plain, horrible... bordering on dangerous. If you want to learn jumps & drops, I would highly recommend getting a lesson from an experienced, certified instructor... doesn't have to be with us, can be with anyone. The point is, this particular series of videos seems to be intent on providing a very incomplete picture of each technique, as well as out-of-date (and sometimes, just plain wrong) information, together with no progressions that can offer safe, effective, learning outcomes. It's well produced and edited, so people maybe "fooled" into thinking the information is equally as professional... unfortunately, this is not the case. Stay safe everyone, and please use caution when viewing these videos.
Condensing two of the most important skills to 30 seconds of meaningless video is kind of dumb. I teach mountain bike skills classes as a volunteer and getting the proper body mechanics takes a while for some people to learn. Better off finding a skilled friend and learning from them.
I'm sorry but if its called downhill elementary then why the hell is he riding a hardtail 29er XC bike? good idea but lets teach these things properly please or a lot of kids are gonna end up in the hospital after trying to ride crabapple hits because now they know the "proper technique"
If you don't bend your legs at least a bit... that is OTB for sure, or at least a nosedive. This guy is doing a ultra-easy jump and still nosediving, probably because he did a bunny hop.
Because when the front wheel is already off the jump and the rear wheel aproaches the lip it will push your back wheel up with your front wheel doing zero resistance to avoid it, so back wheel up and front wheel down, how good is that?
C'mon and lighten up on PB here. If they are getting paid to post what are mtb equivalent of a reefer madness instructional video, it is our duty to sit back and laugh. I cannot resist watching these things. As I waitied for the video to load I actually thought their one piece of advice (as is usually the case with this series) was going to be "use the bike's suspension"! I can't wait for the one on "how to cross a stream".
I just saw PinkBike promoted this video on FaceBook. They seriously have no standards anymore if they are willing to post and promote this to us. They have clearly put money ahead of appealing to their target audience.
To actually get Some height, this is the right technique. As long as you keep pressure on the handlebars by pulling it towards you while you stretch your legs, you won't go otb if you do this until your backwheel leaves the lip. It's not the easiest way to jump but, in my opinion, the best way to get controlled height. When you jump a spine (you have to get height) you do just the same.
Its pretty good instructions, but terrible execution. Should have tucked his stomach into the seat to level out... Theres always a way around the seat didn't have to sack himself, and straight legs are exactly how to boost air on quarters too.
I really really sucked ass at jumping but after watching this i can now hit jumps like Brendog. Seriously,A video with 26 seconds of tekkers is gonna get somebody killed.
These videos are actually dangerous! Some noob will huck off some huge jump or drop thinking all he has to do I follow what this muppet says and he will be fine.
What's worse to watch? XC videos (that still display amazing athleticism) or poorly made pandering bulls**t ads that just insult all riders?
You can do better PB!
Very disappointed. Whoever made this video should be apologizing for pretending that they know anything at all about DH drops and jumps. They need to quit their job and open a dress shop.
Now i want wyn masters to do his version of this clip.
Don't take the money... Keep your soul...
Or I'll be forced to go and read mtbr from now on.
"Keep your weight over the wheel"?
it's obvious whoever writes these doesn't ride. And that kinda hurts the whole ad campaign for Skoda.
New rider "OK"
