My god this is the greatest enduro race ever... insanely epic stages including a chainless stage! Hahaha, that is hilarious and it keeps at least part of the race really fun. Although that's not to say those ravines and ridges didn't look like a blast being all flowy and steep as hell.
ya, so... its not the race I have a problem with, it is the use of the word "enduro" plastered on everything that used to just be mountain biking, or all-mountain. It is crazy how much more you pay now for somthing that 5 years ago cost half the price, just because it has "enduro" plasterd all over it. I actually love that there is a race for the masses. I don't love how it is being used to justify jacking up prices.
My Giant Reign was sold as an AM bike? Will it still work for races like this? Probably not so I'll have to sell it for next to nothing, cuz really what's it worth as an AM bike, and buy an over priced Enduro bike.
bholton , i have never ridden a Giant Reign, but you make my point for me. It is "just" a Giant Reign. It Can not race Enduro! dont do it! You will die. Enduro bikes are so super special. I am not hating the race format, I am just stating that the natural progression of mtb is now being hyped up as some kind of leap forward because of "enduro" but really all that happened was people started racing their mountain bikes the way I ride every time I am out. For example... I ride with a pro-tec helmet, bought three years ago. xc helmets are too flimsy, and DH helmets are too hot. My helmet was 20$. Now that style of helmet is up to at least 100$ my pro-tec is selling for 50$ because, wait for it... they are just like those cool looking enduro helmets. Industry hates guys like me, I point out the obvious and educate the masses on what they don't want you to know. And call me a hater.
I had the chance to "race" it once and that was just amazing fun. Too bad it's so remote, I'd love to ride it again! I can only recommand anyone to go there. Terrain diversity is great, organisation is perfect. It's 100% pure fun.
hey, i have an idea, lets see how many people can use the word 'enduro' in a random sentence to try and sell things. ( I saw a 2008 kona full squish bike on Chain Reaction Cycles selling as an "enduro bike., that gave me the idea) I will start " This morning I had a cup of coffee, ate some breakfast, and then put on my enduro tie for work." (its an enduro tie because I use it for riding sometimes)

I don't think it is. "Enduro" bikes are being sold with specific set ups and drive trains to optimize this kind of racing, because it is so specialized. You can ride almost anything on an enduro specific bike, but can you race enduro on just any mountain bike? Even an AM bike? I've tried it and it didn't go so well man. It's being sold as enduro for a reason. If it's not what you're looking for don't buy it. Enough with the hate
it is what i am looking for. Thats the problem. The price is just crazy now, what AM bike did you use? Educate me on how these bikes are so much better... I just see a natural progression of technology paired with a racing format making bigger holes in my pocket because of the marketing of "enduro" no hate here, just reality.
