I hate to be a dick but that wasnt worth the amount of effort it took to edit and film that. the camera work was on point i just dont know if that was worth producing. yeah you can enjoy biking because you "love to ride" but show me one rider that doesnt love to ride bikes. this wasnt entertaining it was just a dull reminder that people ride cause they enjoy it...which we all know. Stop touching your brakes and film something i can't do.

I thought it was all in slow mo at first then I just realized she was really slow.

It's easy to criticise the rider but the rider isn't the problem with the video imo.

1% faster than you are used to is always fast.
I would love the likes of Gee to burn every comment you make.
Elitism sucks, so glad we dont have it where we ride.
Jealousy is just childish.

I was expecting a kind of ad helping our GF to think riding is a funny hobby. But i just watch a lonely rider, with no emotion.... For me, riding is spend days on trail with my friends, sometimes making new ones. Maybe we re slow too, but we look happy, we have social interactions...
  • 68 12
Hmm, she really needs all that suspension...
  • 38 9
Lovely trails for XC or AM/Trail bikes, not haevy DH machines.

Young, Old? Fast, Slow? Man or Woman? Weekend Warrior or World Cup? Full Suspension, XC or Hardtail? Does it really matter?

that trail looked awesome though

Yeah, someone had to say it. There are tons of great edits with really skilled women that could make mtb look like fun to others. This just looks boring and I can't see it attracting anyone. I'm sure she loves to ride and has fun, but so do I and I know it would be pointless to show my riding to the public as it wouldn't stand out one bit. It also really seems to me that the DH bike and gear is just slowing her down. The vid would be so much better if she just took a light, nible XC bike to those trails and ditched the full face and body armour - it would become a non-pretentious vid of a relaxed afternoon ride. As it is, she prepares for war and then goes for a walk in the park, which looks stupid.
  • 11 11
At least she wasn't doing whips and manuals.
  • 40 6
at 3:36, yes lets see her hit a jump.. fuuuuq she rolled it

someone needs to find that trail and give it a thrashing
  • 16 5
I'd happily do all that on my hardtail. What's the point of having a heavier bike on trails like that
  • 16 5
at 3:10 she brakes while pedaling
  • 6 3
 Whoa! Mad swappin' at 3:47.
  • 13 3
The fact of the matter is, videos are supposed to be entertaining, not just a way to express a metaphor. And did anyone actually enjoy watching this?

No discredit to the rider, if she enjoys it then good on her! But I'm not sure it really required a video to be made.
  • 10 2
I think the idea of this wasn't bad, but did it really deserve to be on the home page? Certainly not in my opinion, thats my 2 cents
  • 46 11
I think you guys are shooting yourself in the foot. We want the dh/enduro scene to grow right? And we really want more woman riding right?

Then it must be okay to be at whatever level of riding, no matter how long you've been riding, no matter your gender, the only thing that's not optional is that you got to have fun.

Instead you're sitting in front of a computer thrashing a vid with a girl while your girlfriend standing behind you. And you still wonder why she don't want to try?...but I forgot, most of you probably incapable of getting a girlfriend.
  • 9 2
"Then it must be okay to be at whatever level of riding, no matter how long you've been riding, no matter your gender, the only thing that's not optional is that you got to have fun." quoting myself on this 'cause I'm f*cking genius, the Platon of mtbing.

Anyways if this vid wins some people over the dark side, then mission accomplished, if some people liked it, mission accomplished. rbajrbanfke...im drunk.

You nailed it in the head. She is not the fastest rider, she does not throw big tricks, but she is a person who loves riding. When other girls who do not ride see videos like this it helps inspire them. It does nothing for people who do not ride to see things that they could never do. We want more people (especially women) in the sport, right? Exactly, this video is perfect then.

Get a life and don't be so critically hateful.
  • 35 6
You guys are rude. This young lady and her husband are some of the most dedicated professional dh photographers in the United States. Super cool people. This was Jay's first video edit I believe... and it's his wife.
  • 43 6
These kids are a bunch of ignorant pricks. Your parents really shit the bed with teaching you manors. My wife rides just like that and fucking loves it, that's the point. Hey children sit down, shut up and learn some respect. You are not very fast either.
  • 13 4
You boys are bunch of lilttle asholes.
  • 11 0
I don't know where to stand on this. I DO agree that when I come to the home page of Pinkbike, I expect to see impressive , embracing content which this is not. HOWEVER, my other half rides a bike, she just got her first Trail bike (SX) and rides at this level and she loves it. For her to be able to see videos like this would only get her more engaged in our sport and the most common place her "group" would be likely to find them? Pinkbike homepage.
  • 9 3
@MendelMu, Mr Platon of mtbing: Yes, we want more people riding and yes, especially women. That is why we need cool edits starring women that don't make the sport look like some boring nonsense requiring tons of unnecessary and uncomfortable equipment. It IS OK to ride at any level and nobody here denies it. Hell, I myself have written in the previous post that my riding would be a pain to watch so I'm not filming it, not to mention shoving it in PB's faces on the front page. And your last sentence just shows arrogance combined with ignorance. My girlfriend does ride and does like watching nice edits with people doing top-level moves on their bikes (a big fan of Danny MacAaskill's vids). Why would she ever want to waste her time watching boring clips like this one? How would that get her inspired to improve and try new things? She got into mtb in the first place because she found it interesting, because she saw people do fun things on bikes that she had never before considered doing (and of course because she tried it and loved it right away, most importantly). She wouldn't be mtbing at all if she had only watched people commuting to the grocery store, would she? Any rider, male or female, likes watching better riders because that gets us all stoked and pumped to get out and push ourselves. Plus, as someone said, these vids are mostly made for entertainment and this one is not entertaining.
  • 5 0
@dualsuspensiondave: I'm sure they are as cool as you say, but so what? Nobody's criticizing them personally, just the vid. Metallica are cool and that doesn't mean they haven't made some shitty songs. I might be cool according to some people (or not...) and I've made some big ass mistakes in my work. Personal coolness has nothing to do with the fact that this particular video is less exciting then drowning.
  • 2 1
 slower than only you... hehe
  • 5 2
Danny Macs videos don't always entertain me, but you don't see me crying about it.
  • 7 0
@bananowy My comment was not directed at you specifically. It's okay to criticize but I think we should be aware of how we do it. It's one thing to rant about brands, top athletes and other professionals but like Meek Mill said "there is levels to this shit". Local bike communities is the grass root level and we should be supportive or forever hold our tongue.

I love riding and filming with my friends and girlfriend(technically my ex-girlfriend) no matter the level, from slow too fast. Im sure you do too. Thats why I think it's a part of riding we should display, while you think they "shoving it in PB's faces on the front page".

I don't youtube Danny Harts WC run on a date and ask her if she wants to try that next weekend, hmm, maybe that's why I never get a second date.

My comment about girlfriends was not mean't to arrogant but merely a catalyst for a behavior thats more friendly for our sport. I always told my ex that it's ok your not competing at WC level...for now. This vid shows that and is something thats needed, 'cause what blows your self-esteem more then thinking everybody is like the Athertons.

// The arrogant one aka Platon of MTB aka MeekMu aka MendelMu
  • 2 0
@ MendelMu Fair enough, I see your point and totally agree that supporting riders at all levels in local communities creates a great vibe Smile Or maybe I'm just more positive now because I've just returned from a quick late evening spin an I'd let off some steam, which shows how biking soothes one's moods ;P

I like the Danny Hart run-date idea, I'd love to see the results Wink If it's going to convince anyone to try it, my GF actually was impressed by that vid and laughed her ass off at Warners commentary, especially the now famous quote about Danny's balls.
  • 3 0
In all honesty I'm kind of on the fence with this one. I get where she's coming from about starting out late, I started at 22 with barely having touched a bike before and it guts me that I can't manual an entire road or whip a massive double, but that's just time. I don't really think she did much justice for advertising us girl riders as it really wasn't a techy track or ridden very fast. But props to her, doesn't matter if you can go fast, it's about the fun as the vid says. The only thing I didn't like was the comment 'as she shows us ladies can have FUN too', now that really did annoy me...am I the only girl that does not take that comment very well??
  • 3 1
@bananowy truce! There is a WC coming up and you will see me in the comment section ranting about riders and brands, hahah, until then peace, love & downhill biking!

I am no Rachel Atherton but I am a decent rider and I find these videos offensive and patronising. Why do we only get to watch videos of females 'having fun'. I know good female riders exist, I've seen them whip, go over gap jumps, off drops. Why are we not filming these chicks, I'm pretty sure they are having fun too.

As someone who started DH at a later age as well, I believe this video deserves its place here. You're not the targeted audience; it appeals to a much larger crowd than the minority of elitist kiddies.

It's not like this type of video is flooding the front page either.

Funny thing is, there is some seriously gnarly trail at snowshoe, like goat's gulley but shorter. But for some reason, they only showed the boring stretches in this video. WTF?
  • 5 0
I was there when my wife was at the women`s dh weekend. Oh boy that place is fun, fast and STEEP. Can`t wait to get back there and shred. And over 20 women instructed by pro`s. So if you see them on trail, give them some props.

Screw your XC and your 650b.
  • 4 0
Snowshoe has some fantastic DH trails, Probably the best on the east coast . What they showed where the easier lines.
  • 24 3
Great job Jay and Heather. Two wonderful people from the South East that has done so much for our biking community. For you haters on here, I dare you to step up and do as much as they have to help your Gravity Community grow and get in the spot light in your area. If you could see and read, this video is not about showing off high level skills or speed on the bike. Its about "The Love For The Sport" and just getting out there no matter what your fears are and doing it.

If you are just going to post crap, then don't post at all.
  • 7 1
I completely agree with you, honestly I do. I think you're missing why some people are being negative about the video though. Most people on here will support any rider of any skill but this video has been shot, edited and given a sound track that would normally be for someone with a pro level of skill. I doubt anyone here is doubting her passion or how amazing the rider is as a person. It's more about the slightly laughable mismatch or rider and edit style.
  • 3 0
Pretty much what I was saying but got neg proped for it :/
I'd say most of the ppl are not hating here, like you said it's a big miss match of stuff.
If the title was 1 of the most dedicated photographers in the sport is starting out on the other side of the lense there would only be prase for this video!
  • 5 0
Cecil, you said it very well. Very good work by Jay. If anyone wants to come to the south and trash talk the work that He and Neither have put in they would be hard pressed to make any friends. Keep up the work Jay!
  • 24 4
You know what, personally I found it so refreshing. Who cares if she wasn't fast, it's about going back to the roots, and this video just made me smile. If you found it boring you didn't need to watch it. People ride at all different levels and it's great see riding from the perspective of someone who isn't a world cup level rider. Yes it's amazing to see the top guys and girls doing their thing, but it's nice to be reminded that we all start somewhere. This is the kind of video that will make other women realise that they can ride too, it's not intimidating, it's just riding a bike- pure and simple. We can't all be fast and fearless on the trail, and it's nice to know that someone was willing to take the risk to be filmed, and for the guys who produced it to take an relativity unknown rider and make this, only for it to be criticized because it doesn't fit into what you think bike videos should be .I'll stop ranting now, but I just wanted to say, awesome vid!
  • 17 3
Thanks for the positive comment... I have nothing to do with the vid or the rider, yet I share the same point of view. These ding dong's with all the hate seem to forget that they started somewhere, too. I am 100% certain that NONE of them started out blazing fast. The thing that gets me is this is supposed to be a video that shows others who are on the fence or have heard about DH riding that are thinking about getting into the sport, that you can have FUN without riding stuff that is above their skill set. But when they see the absolute childish and elitist (as Betsie put it) comments, they want nothing to do with the sport in fear of being scoffed at. I, for one, am ashamed that I share such an amazing sport with an enormous group of d oo s h b a gg s. Rage on Heither (and others that are just beginning) the skills will come.
  • 6 4
the point is we dont see any love or fun in this video at all...
  • 9 0
I agree with Identitizombie and timmyelle on this one. I like making jokes and poking fun just as much, if not more then the next guy but she clearly loves the sport and she's out there riding a bike and enjoying herself. No need to hate. She is just sharing her love and her version of the sport. Just because your skill level is higher then her's or you have larger rocks between your legs, doesn't mean there isn't room for EVERYONE on the mountain. Any skill level, on any bike. We all want the same thing. Fun. Peace.
  • 8 1
All these neg comments remind me of the I only ride Park video where it went something like "I don't race pro but I sure act like it" (at least that's what I think the song said). Speaking from personal experience the first time my gf saw the videos on pb she said and I quote "you're f****ing nuts if you think I'm going riding with you". Then she tried it out and now she even helps me work on the bikes and swap parts. If we want more new comers to the sport we need videos like this.
  • 5 0
Who talk about hate ? Who sais there was not room for everyone on the mountain, i express my opinion on few word and you made your own interpretation of it.

The video should be name "my first Time doing downhill" Than everyone would had understand
  • 18 1
Heither and Jay are two amazing people dedicating so much time, love and devotion to the sport as well as all their friends who get to ride while they shoot rather than getting in on the action. When I met Heither I was at Snowshoe for the first race of the series this year. I was super nervous and down on myself after some bad runs but after talking to her, she reminded me that as long as its still fun and you can find a love for the sport, nothing else matters. I've only been riding since February, and not seeing yourself progress as quickly as the guys or be confident in hitting the big stuff is hard for a female rider. If videos like this help get more women riding then I'm all for it. Heither you rock it lady, hope to see you at race 3!

And to everyone posting negatively about this, look at the photos on your wall, of women dressed in underwear laying across their (hold up, probably not their) bikes. If that's how you picture women and a dh rig interacting then you have no business commenting on ANY riding a woman does. Get over yourselves.
  • 3 0
 Amen
  • 17 0
Concept for the video is good, but not keen on giving new riders the idea they need a full dh rig to learn on.

When people get into the sport they don't know what aspect of riding they will enjoy or peruse, would be nice to see a tough hardtail bike with a decent spec sold and marketed as a first/entry bike into the sport.
  • 7 0
I liked the message too. Nice work. I also agree she/everyone would benefit from a hard tail or a bmx especially . Then take those skills and the big bike to the park.
  • 4 1
If it was me, I wouldn't ride a hardtail doing any of the stuff I'm doing now, mainly due to bad knees from 3 years of bike trials but having a full sus makes everything more enjoyable and if I wasn't a bike nut and was starting out I would feel that a hardtail is pretty punishing (certainly on the rutty south England trails we have to ride), my friend is loving her Pivot Mach4 as it takes the sting out of it and also gives her a bit more grip to go faster. Yes she doesn't need that DH bike but I feel putting her on some 100mm HT 'like we should all learn on' would take her back so much in terms of the fun she's able to have.
  • 10 1
The vast majority of riders that use dh bikes don't need them. They ( I ) buy into a image believing thats what they require. Plus if you can afford it it's nice to have a fancy ride. While i believe i could hit that trail way faster than Heither i don't believe that id be on the edge any more than her.As im sure that see is pushing her limit even if it appears slow to me thats her limit. There's always going to be someone faster and slower than Heither. Also htis makes a change from seeing riders drifting every corner whipping every jump. A lot of vids now just all the same. respect for doing something different.

Man or Woman, you see both dribbling down trails on equipment that is really quite overkill for their skill level.
Looking at this it is like someone who has just past their driving test buying there first car and its a F1 maclaren or some thing similar. This used to rile me but I have since cooled my jets because 1. The industry is selling bikes and equipment which is good and 2. At some point there will be a pristine second hand Wilson on pinkbike buy/sell that will be more affordable for some young ripper who can actually ride it as it begs to be ridden.

I do agree with all best intentions this really should not have made the front page.

P
  • 8 9
I'm pretty sure that one of the most dedicated professional dh photographer's in the United States deserves her own video showing her passion of the sport outside of her lense. This couple travels all over without sleep and good food, works when everyone else is having fun and you have this to say. Really says a lot about your character or lack there of.
  • 6 2
dualsuspensiondave, why so judgemental and emotional? Nobody's insulting your friends (and you're doing just that, insulting people all over the comments section under this edit), they're just commenting on the vid, that is all. And where did you get the idea that anyone "deserves" their biking video. What she deserves is huge credit for her photo work, surely. But a boring edit is a boring edit no matter who it features. This vid would be equally uninteresting if it was resurrected mother Teresa riding a recumbent.
  • 5 6
I'm judgemental and emotional?! Hahaha! I'm just pointing out ignorance. If you think this video isn't worthy of being on this site, then it's a great idea to talk to pinkbike editors privately rather than complaining on an internet forum that you don't own. Get out and ride!
  • 4 2
 Dualsuspensiondave
I'm really sorry you feel that way I am not in the habit of attacking people personally and I'm sorry if you or anyone else has been hurt by my comment, and I'm sure the rider is a really cool person but her talents obviously lye with her photography (which I was not aware of, excuse my ignorance). However if what your saying is the case then this film should surely have been one for the private collection, I'm sure lots of us have film of our riding but it just does not necessarily mean its worthy for public consumption.

I must totally agree with bananowy, he makes a valid point and points out that the only person doing the insulting is you, judging my character, I have thick skin and broad shoulders so I'll let you off this time.
One more thing, your comments writes like we should feel sorry for for the rider/photographer, well it sounds like she is following her dream and working hard at it and I'm sure she wouldn't want it any other way, it beats working in an office or fudge packing on the night shift.
Peace on earth and good will to all humans
  • 7 4
No, it doesn't imply that at all. I'm sayingthat this is a super cool change of pace. It clearly states the purpose of the video, and ignorant people are upset that they aren't watching WC level athletes. That said, people should respect the other passionate people in the industry. Don't dog on people that aren't as good at riding as others. This is fun to her, get over it. How dare someone put a video that isn't WC riding on my beloved pink bike home page.
  • 20 6
Good job Jay! This is very well put together. And good riding Heither.
  • 1 4
High five! You're more polite than haters, you behave better. You're right. I wish more people would act like you.
  • 11 1
Any of you haters have the balls to put up some of your first edits? When u were just starting out? Takes a lot of brass to put it out there and have a bunch of disrespectful little f*ckwits slag it off in front of the whole community. I'm sure you're all too busy busting out massive 50ft whips since day one and never EVER bailin or eyeballing a double as you ride past it. f*ck.
  • 16 7
Great vid all round. Good to see a mere mortal just having fun riding, without having all the generic jump/speed thrash round berm stuff. Even the music fits... We need more stuff like this... Enjoy your environment.

Peace, mud and gears
  • 9 4
Without having all the 'generic jump, speed, thrash berm shit'.
Really? Don't people come on here to see videos of riders doing exactly that? Pushing the limits of what is possible on a mountain bike.
I don't need to come on here to watch videos with an underlying meaning of 'ride your bike for fun' etc. Why the hell did I buy a bike in the first place all those years ago? I'm fairly sure it wasn't to not have fun.
This video was 100% not front page worthy and I just wasted 4+mins watching it. I'm not criticising the rider or the filmer, it's just simply not what I come on this website to watch and I'm sure 90% of other users of this website don't either.
  • 1 2
@ Matthewjam3s...Do you watch EVERY video on the front page of Pink Bike? When, then do you ride? If this isn't what you want to watch, don't watch it...you could probably see 30 sec in that it wasn't what you liked...stop and move on...problem solved.
  • 4 1
Currently on summer holidays so I do tend to get time to ride everyday and watch the videos on pinkbike. Thanks. I'm entitled to my opinion, as are you. However, I don't appreciate the usual tirade of comments referring to 'its all about having fun on your bike'. If that was the case, every video would be on the front page. Everyone has fun on their bike, people come on here to watch biking videos that make them say 'wow'. You won't find anyone that said that after watching this vid.
  • 12 2
Well I for one enjoyed that, Why moan about someone else enjoying their ride..
...and why criticized because they bothered to put an edit together.
Thanks Heither & team.
  • 9 1
Nice edit! don't be so hard on your comments!! I prefer to see people going outdoor to ride and film rather than stay in front of their tv She had good control and she will keep up riding and get faster and safer naturally without unneeded pressure keep having fun
  • 8 0
Really nice and refreshing video that shows a normal rider. Ok videos of people pushing the limits are more exciting to watch but show those videos to your girlfriend then try and encourage her to ride and see the reaction. If people truly want more women in cycling then more videos like this are needed. I personally enjoyed it.
  • 9 1
Nice video. I like the different perspective. I didn't realize Pinkbike was such an exclusive, rude community. Are most of you middle schoolers riding a bike with a grudge?
  • 11 1
Shocked with the lack of respect. Too much spoiled people over here. Being humble will never be a bad thing. Anyway....
  • 3 5
Nah, we should just thrash people who is not as fast ..
  • 8 1
A lot of negativity for this one. Agreed, it's probably not exciting enough to be front page, but everybody is entitled to buy what bike and what gear they want, god know's the big companies try hard enough to sell us the stuff. What does come over pretty badly sometimes is when people buy all the gear, have no idea, but act as if they are the big 'I am'! It's all about having a decent attitude, and that's what she had. She's never going to be top shredder and admits it herself, she just want's to ride. She has a better bike than half of us on here, so what? The poor lass is probably pretty hurt by a lot of these comments, just for wanting to ride her bike. Come on people how about a little live and let live?
  • 8 1
You know what always amazes me? When I go to a BC Bike Park and probably 50% of the guys I come across ride like ... well, as one of my friends puts it "I saw a lot of women out there today, not so many ladies". There's nothing more frustrating for solid intermediate park chicks like myself and my girlfriends, than guys who push in at the start of a trail because they assume they'll be faster than you - and they're f&(^$#g not. And their technique sucks - but of course, they're way too cool to spend any time at camp "eyeroll" So knock away ... some of you aren't all that and a bag of chips either.

Ride on, Heither.

Just get out and ride, keep chasing that front wheel, that's all that matters

Mt. Bikjng in not a team sport! You are alone on your bike! This video is not about racing or doing some whips, it's about just being out there, just riding, appreciating the moment.
  • 6 0
Like that Snowshoe is getting on pinkbike but the pics and vid are not getting people stoked to come here to West by God to ride and definitely not showing all that it has to offer; flow, rooty rocky gnar, wood built BC stuff.
  • 6 0
There really is alot of hate for this video. I understand that this video isn't filled with huge jumps or fast riding, but that's not the point of the video and it was not advertised as such in any way.

You know what most people do when the content of a video doesn't interest them? They don't watch it. There are plenty of videos, that I'm sure many people find cool on Pinkbike, that I don't care to watch so I simply skip them. I don't go out of my way to hate on it just because its not interesting to me. Now if its a case of a video called "Raddest Shredding Ever" and its lame, I'm down to leave a comment letting the creator know it sucked. But this isn't that type of situation.
  • 6 0
THIS is the kind of video that will get ladies interested in trying downhill riding. It makes the sport look accessible to women. And don't you guys want more women in the sport? A girlfriend who rides means MORE time in the mountains, MORE downhill trips, MORE time riding bikes, MORE bikes, LESS grief about bike purchases, LESS time and effort in buying gifts for your gf/wife (purple or pink bike parts will usually elicit squeals of delight). Girls on bikes are generally lower maintenance too and don't care about the muddy bike tracks across the living room floor.

Wanna be a hater? Watch out or fate may stick you with a high maintenance girl who makes you give up the sport you love one day and all you will have is PinkBike videos late at night after the wife and kids are asleep.
  • 13 8
Im sorry im all up for people learning and 'riding for fun' but this was just a tragic waste of time. Every biker knows there is no point riding if your not having fun so why make an incredibly boring video to proove an already accepted unwritten rule? The whole point of videos being o the front page is that they are interesting to watch or they have something important to say. This did neither of those. The video I made of bala champs had people going three times as fast so why didn't it make front page? Im not saying it should I just meab this video shouldn't.
  • 14 5
Dude, the point of the video was to show you can have fun no matter who/what/where you ride. The lady in the film was having fun. The film maker saw the merits, and so did the web site... Enjoy
  • 7 5
... a lonely rider, with no emotion....
  • 2 1
@ Maxx...this video may not be interesting or important to you, but that doesn't mean someone else doesn't find that so. It's a free country and PinkBike is not an elitist website. Wouldn't you like a girl who rides? THIS is the kind of video that inspires them to get started.
  • 4 0
Not a lonely rider at all. Lots of good riders ride with her when they see her on the trail because her and Jay are such great people. Not because the are shredders. Everytime I get a chance to hang a d ride with them I do, because I know no matter what they enjoy riding as much as I do.
  • 5 0
I thought the video was cool, though I wish it wasn't just a "solo" thing. I agree that she should've looked like she was having fun, instead of looking like a loner. Girls are typically more social, so I think showing her riding with girls/guys or her husband would've been cool. I know I enjoy riding DH with my bf, although we get competitive sometimes as to who will hit what feature first. But I like the concept of showing someone who isn't throwing sick whips or hucking their meat in a way that 90% of us can't- a good video to show n00bs (guy or girl) to just get out there and ride DH if they want to.

And while you don't *need* a DH bike to ride certain trails... sometimes it's just much more fun to ride a DH than an AM/XC bike!

It's difficult to get women into riding, and material like this could be dignified as a realistic interpretation of expectations for beginner female riders. She's certainly to no extent terrible. Or great. I started that way too. There's a lot of mental boundaries to be pushed for women to get into the sport. Women don't grow up with it the way men do. I go to jump parks and trails and runs and there's frequently 10 year old boys there on new jumper bikes or full suspension. How often does a girl get a brand new bike that wasn't picked out just because of the color, or the appearance? A harder bike discipline all too often doesn't even become available to women until they're on their own, 18+. Even at that point, they look at a video of people speeding down the hill, going off jumps, ect, and are easily acquainted with a feeling of it being hopeless. This video gives a pretty good start point, an obtainable point, that men would of learned back in their youth.
  • 3 0
great points about bike selection and introduction to riding discipline; easily overlooked but highly relevant obstacles to DH access for females.

So much for good vibes... to see some of the posts in this thread is well... just sad. So much for inclusion, so much for individual passion and rider respect regardless of perceived level. So much for good will... The truth is that most of the people who comment and visit this site couldn't produce anything better aside from hucking themselves into a lake and shotgunning 10 PBRs... that must be the essence of riding right?... /sarcasm

Anyone can find flaws... anyone.
  • 5 0
Nice to see the upcoming generation raised with some respect. I don't want to be insulting but I'd be curious about her age since she mentions starting MB later in life. That's one thing all the kids on here will never understand. Starting something like mountain biking later in life isn't the same as when you're young, dumb and full of yourself with no fear, but all you kiddies will find that out soon enough.
  • 6 1
A hell of a lot of douchbags commenting under this, the vast majority with no pictures/videos under their profiles.. but hey, it's Pinkbike the home of the 'faster than you' crowd.

Keep at it Heither!

Ride for the enjoyment of yourself & your friends without fear of being judged by others. :-)
  • 5 0
I bet none of these "expert" riders, racers, and social media gurus have a girlfriend or wife. If you did, you would give nothing but positive feedback. So many guys would do anything just to get their girls to even walk down one of these trails let alone ride them. Hey Jay and Heither, nice work. Now you know why I have to take a break from fb every once in a while. Social media turns your brain to mush. Just look at all these joe pros.......
  • 5 0
What a bunch of haters! Shows a real lack of maturity to post a comment when it isn't warranted or marginalizes someone's art(rider and filmer/editor).

Keep shredding and filming no matter how much all of these clown's insecurities manifest themselves from behind a keyboard!
  • 5 0
I swear.......to all you haters....I'd like to smack you little mouthy punk bitches......teach you a lil respect...everyone's a critic eh???..meanwhile, you THINK you're fast and you're whips are sooooo tweaked... Idiot a*sholes.... You're all bad for the sport. Damn, give the girl a break.
  • 7 2
I think everything is fine with that video. That is how most girls start riding and if there's somebody encouraging you and filming it, good for you! Live and let live. The neck brace is too much for this trail/speed though.
  • 3 2
totally agree. I don't understand why the video is getting that much hate. People who wanna watch crazy gaps and tricks shouldn't watch it - but I'm quite sure you don't need to watch the whole video to understand that. Therefore..everybody complaining about the video shouldn't have watched it in the first place. Great footage of a beginner,.. I would love to be able to watch me riding and learn out of it..

BUT I disagree with her first statement. For me mountainbiking isn't something you do alone in the nature..its about friends, fun and mountains.. at least in my opinion.. ah and of course, we wouldn't go biking without our dogs :-)
  • 5 1
That's why many girls are afraid to start practise biking: they are probably afraid of haters, who might be really rude for they at the beggining. But probably in the web there are lots of vids of guys who ride slower than you... and the men don't hate and offense them. I 've wathed many weak videos of riding boys and almost nobody hated them... it's quite unfair.
  • 4 0
All in all, ihave to admitt you partly have a point. Lots of girls in the world presents high skill level and their videos doesn't appear on the main page. Before watching video, I thank ''the idea is good, and the message is positive'', but after watching I'm quite dissapointed. Even though the hating isn't good behaviour', I feel obliged to say I know girls who ride better and they don't post they vids on the homepage. Men who criticise that rider partly are right, because videos on main page should presents top level and stunning ride (no matter male or female): but there's no excuse for rudeness.
  • 10 3
Good to see this on the homepage! It's aways awesome seeing people that have a passion to ride
  • 5 6
You see passion in this vid ?
  • 13 1
Yes I do. Maybe she's not as good as some people about portraying that on camera, but she loves to ride and that's all that matters. Isn't mountain biking about spreading the stoke, not bashing people that just want to get out and ride? I think some people have lost sight of the fact that mountain biking is fun, not just some big "who's balls are bigger" competition. Just saying Smile
  • 4 1
 Well said KT!
  • 8 0
You go girl!!!!! and ignore the sad haters . . .
  • 4 0
I liked it. It was just a different perspective. It wasnt the latest and greatest fast young shredder, but a rider who just loves riding! Also showed how beautiful snowshoe is. Sometimes we forget how gorgeous nature can be. The greenery was nuts! Great vid guys
  • 6 0
I noticed none of the top pros we all know and love dropped negative criticisms on this edit. They're probably too busy being pro, riding their bikes, and having some class.
  • 1 1
 Well said....exactly
  • 8 2
If she just rides for fun, (which is no bad thing at all) she would have so much more of it if she rode a 140mm hardtail.
  • 1 0
Having ridden those trails, they would be terribly brutal on a hardtail. I have ridden them with seasoned XC riders who were riding 140 mm dual suspension trail bikes and who were miserable. They are much steeper and looser than they appear. A hard tail with a steep head angle means you will probably be walking and having a miserable time of it. She is having fun on a DH bike and can afford to have one, so why should she do otherwise. There is no shortage of bikes for everyone else.
  • 3 0
I understand that she is slow, but at the start she does say "starting in later life" now if you all think back everyone was like this at somepoint, you came from there and atleast she made a video at that speed. I reckon none of you have the balls to make a video when you were that speed.
  • 4 1
As a 40 something female XC rider, I found this quite refreshing. You don't have to be fast or furious on the trails and being 'slow' is not a bad thing. You are cool enough just being out there. If anything I think the vid was a little tongue in cheek, a 'V' to all those vids shot where riders are doing stunts and jumps that most of us will never achieve. Shame on all of you who dissed this.
  • 5 0
Good on 'er for having fun, I bet this video was about to boost her confidence madly... until she read most of your horrendous comments. Well done kids.
  • 3 0
It is not all about the tricks and what you do, it is about the ride you have, being fast or slow it is all about the moment that one feels when riding. This was a great video and to each there own. It was about the ride ...Just Sayin..The End...EMF
  • 3 0
Long as you're out there riding, it doesn't matter how fast your going. I give you props and I feel what this video is about. Lotta kids out there can ride fast and hard but can't put a story together. Good job on the video!
  • 2 0
Just get out and ride. The lady is enjoying herself is doesn't matter at what level she is riding as long as she is enjoying it and fair play I say. Her bike and gear look mint as well, after all it's her own personal choice what bike she has, who are we to judge
  • 2 0
haters..what? nice video, you and your friends and family will love it. looks and sounds great. i liked it.sort of.i really wanted to cut your brake lines and watch you tear it up..but ,that's what we see all the time. nice change of pace and good for you for taking the time to make a video, lots of work. over.
  • 2 0
Nice work as usual Jay. To all you other punks, give me a break, you started somewhere, you wished your wife or girlfriend would ride, lucky for Jay, he gets to ride, ride with his wife, and do something nice for her like making a video of this quality. So she didn't ride super fast, she didn't huck to flat, I'd also love to see how fast all of you keyboard warriors think you'd be on the same run.
  • 4 0
is it me or is it always looking like she is about to hit a jump or something?
  • 4 1
Everyone had to start somewhere, but not everyone has a pro photog/filmer husband to capture the journey! I love seeing people who love the sport as much as I do. Cute vid.
  • 1 0
Most of your are being dicks!! R_evans FClinder among others know these folks as I do. These 2 people put more time and effort into the Gravity Community in the Southeast than anyone I know. Most of you people on here need to spend more time on your bikes and not watching videos. I think most of you KIDS are missing the point of the video.
  • 4 0
Too much bike, too much equipment for her but good to see women on the trails getting out there and riding at any pace
  • 2 0
If you saw the rest of the trails at snowshoe, the bike would seem entirely appropriate. This video just shows the lame connector trails between all the real stuff.
  • 4 1
she should have went down lower hairball!the video showed the snowshoe connector trails!not the big boy shit!snowshoe has some sick shit there.
  • 2 2
Exactly. What's with filming only the boring flat stuff that merely serves to get to the real trails?
  • 7 2
Wow, amazed how many people missed the point of the video.
  • 2 0
Criticism is a good thing, gives a person more determination to do better. Not my sort of VOD but give her another 12 months. And then send another video... We'd all be gutted if she hit the rampage haha
  • 1 0
I hate videos like this why cant i have enough money for great gear props to her for riding but why not have a hardtail or something because i could have ridden quicker on a unicycle im no pro but i have to ride a marin from 2007 it cost me £200 and i ride it like i stole it it just annoys me....all the gear and no idea! But anyway at least shes riding thats a good sign
  • 2 0
Everyone on this page giving negative comments - You were this ability once, and even back then you would have jumped at the chance for someone to make such a professional edit of you. The only way to go from here is faster.
  • 5 1
It have to be a good business will buy a used bike from her. :o)
  • 11 6
 I enjoyed it. Thanks!
  • 6 1
 nice jaySmile
  • 3 2
Great film making, but the phrase "All the gear, no idea" came to mind. Fair play to her and it's great she's having fun but I think if I saw the rushes of that I'd have been too embarrassed to let it be edited.
  • 2 2
Not sure what to say. Lackluster?

Nice to see some ladies out there, but the first thing that caught my eye was the trail rating. She "hucked?" into a black diamond, so I was expecting rocks, roots, and some drops....I think someone at that bike park needs to readjust their ratings. I ride DH predominantly at Blue Mountain, ON and well, Grab Bag, Squeeker, those are Black Diamonds... that diamond looked like a green rated DH run. They have different ratings for ladies at that place?? If the intent was to also showcase the trails, it's not going to get me there anytime soon. Bromont here I come!!
  • 3 0
Those were the tamer sections of the Pro DH course at Snowshoe...most of the course is steep and rough...she rode through all that to get to these spots, but the steep sections are dark and not very photogenic.
  • 1 0
This was a video for DH mountain biking no? Isn't steep and rough what DH biking is all about. Those are the best photogenic areas of DH. You're telling me this isn't photogenic? Check out Kyle's photo...maybe next video we'll see some of the Pro DH course...

I try to support this rider but damn she sucks. PB, I got one for you, go film Susan Phay at Snow Summit..she rips DH trails on a Cannondale HT. Well she's too F'in poor to afford a fully. Nonetheless, an amazing HT rider on a dedicated DH bike park. Her background" she's a teacher in a 3rd world country.

Great video Jay and Heither, you have both earned tremendous respect for the time and dedication you have put into the DH scene in the South East, keep up the good work.
