Downhill Southeast Banner

The "off season" isn't a time to put the big bike away for the winter. That's certainly not good enough for Neko Mulally and his best buddies in the South East. So what do they do? They put together a three race series at some of the best tracks the region has to offer. Kicking off at the Trials Training Center and then to Windrock Park both in Tennessee. Then finally wrapping things up at Asheville's newest "Year Around" bike park, Bailey Mountain Bike Park. Neko's been actively chasing his World Cup worthy buddies and upcoming Juniors to come out during the cold months..... The Shaws, Mick Hannah, Charlie Harrison, etc., so this will be one series you won't want to miss. A handful of the fastest riders in the world and you get to pound some laps yourself with them? What's not to love about this idea?

Parking at Bailey is going to be horrendous. But that place is so sick so its worth it.

Yep, yep. As we get closer to the date I'll get some information from the Miller's about the plan and share it here and on Facebook.

What line do you think we will be racing at Bailey's?
  • 1 0
Welcome to the Jungle > Jumanji > Salvador's Slalom is a very good bet (not confirmed). No word if they are going to have the Am's go to the blue trails or not. Also there's lots of time between now and then, they might have something new by then. You never now.

Parking will be improved by the time we have the race.

Neko, I got $100 says I can slam a sixer of Dale's and make it down the hill faster than you can.

this is definitely an extremely "new guy" post... but if i have never raced before, would i be able to register and race in the amateur class? or is this for pros and almost pro racers only? or would if be able to start racing with this series?

Almost every DH race in America has an amateur/support event/race. If you click on the Reg link you'll see that it's $30 I believe. Have fun!! DH racing is something every MTB rider should try at least once in their lifetime. You will be a better person for doing it. You may even bring home a piece of tin.

 Love all this NC exposure

Just curious how rideable most of these runs are on an aggressive hardtail. I'm fine riding the all the normal Pisgah stuff, just want to know if this is on another level(big gaps & drops etc.). Sounds like an awesome series. Thanks.
  • 2 0
You could probably get away with it if it's on the groomed stuff at Bailey's, but I would definitely not do that at Windrock and probably not at TTC. Windrock is as rocky/blown out and old-school, aggressive riding as it gets!
  • 1 0
Thanks for the advice, maybe I can borrow a big bike. Cheers!
  • 1 0
Groomed stuff would be fun on an aggro hardtail! maybe a little chattery but if you're used to it, it's def doable.
  • 1 0
Windrock and TTC aren't hardtail friendly unless you are smooth as hell and can finesse it, it's definitely not fast either.... And yes, there are big gaps/drops at both places, think gnarly old school rocky and steep as hell.

Yay! A race that is at TTC in Chattanooga. Been waiting for one for awhile.

Rockin'!!!! That place has always kicked my ass but it's an awesome spot. Just PRAY that it doesn't rain. LOL

We've received a number of questions about the plan for the round at Bailey Mountain, as those that have been there know that space is tight. Guy and Jenn have their stuff together and put together some info about the event. Info is here: baileymountainwnc.com/bike-park/races-events/28-downhill-southeast-race
