The Pinkbike Podcast: Sitting Down With the Man Behind Red Bull's Race Tapes

If you've seen some of YouTube's biggest hits, you've probably seen some of Boombox's work. Whether it's Pinkbike Academy, Fast Life or Red Bull Race Tapes, the production company has had a huge hand in lots of larger serialized projects. Romain ' Lettuce' Dompnier been involved in many of these projects. We got a chance to sit down with him in Squamish and talk about Red Bull, racing, and maybe a large amount of Formula One.






Featuring a rotating cast of the editorial team and other guests, the Pinkbike podcast is a weekly update on all the latest stories from around the world of mountain biking, as well as some frank discussion about tech, racing, and everything in between.

 @drakefan705: Except curling camp doesn't last 7 weeks & we've not heard peep nor conspiracy from him since April 6/7 ish. PB could easily just say - "yeah, homey's on vaycay, quit, or just not coming back..." whatever. I don't need personal details just wanna know if he's at PB anymore or not. PB being mum about it is absurd...doesn't have to fester like this. For me, Levy IS pinkbike so his absence for me is a blow, whether they wanna say anything normal or sit on it making the Levy Cult fans wonder.

 @VtVolk: Levy (and some of the other members of the pinkbike team) are actually voice characters by Brian Park. Before pinkbike Brian was a voice actor at Pixar animations.
The reason both Levy AND Brian have been absent from the podcast is that Brian picked up a throat infection restricting his vocal range when he was picked up by aliens on the way to his weekly 3D printing club meet.

 @suspended-flesh: Yep, he mentioned that years ago (and I ain't a soc-med fan either)...totally get that he wants / needs time off tho...not a biggie. Either way, none of this is a biggie even if Levy was fired for snorting coke off an aliens hind-end...doesn't matter. Just seems like w/ so many people wondering WTF, some info would be revealed.

Jokes aside: It's been two months since we've seen any content from Levy. At this point I think it's realistic to assume he's no longer with PB.

 Quick google search shows, that this exact discussion was already held in 2021, where it seems like some excessive bike testing, writing and videi editing was the reason...

 @Phipu: Except the previous absences for "curling camp" were only 3-4 weeks and he wasn't absent for 2 months w/ zero word. HOWEVER - this pod and several others still continue to reference the Unnkown Levy, he's online often which you can see to the right side of the screen at times...so I have some hope. But either way - none of this is conspiracy stuff (Levy would approve) or worth much - just don't see why PB doesn't say 'yeah, he's riding and writing and doing shit, chill out". That's easy.

Besides, I'm not leading the Where's Levy charge. Bugging them.... ppppfffttt. Mofo is a main PB figure then disappears, PB's full on radio silent. Its a natural question. So he's off. Great. If he got fired, great. Doesn't matter - just matters to not leave people hanging.

 what the hell went down we need a Levy podcast explaining where we can follow him and what went down. A lot of us have so many hours invested listening, following and reading his opinions. Maybe is the curse of the Grim Donut.

 I appreciate the honesty about the State of the Sport articles. I can’t imagine the pressure of having my work judged publicly without any context of where I was personally when I wrote it. I don’t envy you in that way.

 @henryquinney i've listened to almost every single pinkbike podcast and i'm not being flippant when I say the F1 podcast was probably the best to date. It was insightful, funny and personal. You and Levy were cooking on gas with this one!

 Great episode. I think both Redbull and Pinkbike have done a great job getting us invested not only in the sport, but also in individuals involved in it. Red Bull got me interested in the Logic/Finn frenemy rivalry and was super stoked to see Finn win his first World Cup. Pinkbike got the comment section wondering where Levy is.

And say what you want of PBA but I get stoked to see the alumni do well on the EDR.

 Cringed so hard when the guy said something along the lines of: "The story comes first". Because that's exactly what you'd expect from media people, right? Almost turned off the podcast. Glad I didn't though, the conversation got a lot more interesting after that.

 Question: Why did pinkbike stop hosting fantasy DH. I absolutely loved doing this and made racing way more fun. SUch a bummer it is no longer available
