The Pinkbike Racing Podcast: Episode #6 - Vallnord World Cup DH Post-Race Wrap-Up

Jul 17, 2022 at 7:45
by Henry Quinney

This week, Ben, Harry, and I get stuck into why racers would ever want to form a union, how to organize a piss-up in a brewery, and all the other top stories from the Andorran World Cup, not least the racing.

July 17th, 2022

Henry Quinney, Ben Cathro, and Harry Jenkinson take you behind the scenes at the Vallnord World Cup race.

sounds like its only a budget issue holding you back from fully supporting Leona - please setup a gofundme
  • 4 1
Was a mega race but what a shambles. Amazing team! Great what Pinkbike Racing has been able to do to support Leona, be great to have her on a post season, It's All Downhill From Here, wrap up. A panel with the whole team would be good - can't think any of us are going to want this to end.

For UK readers, I wonder if there's enough of us to get Pinkbike Racing on the long list for the Sports Personality of the Year team award?

Side question: did Henry's moustache cause Amaury to question his life choices?
  • 1 1
Agreed on team & panel. The Vaudeville / Snake Oil Medicine Show pencil-mustache trend is concerning (or disconcerting?) and it makes me want to eat lead. Hard to watch otherwise normally sane people looking like black & white double speed movie characters & charicatures. I keep thinking they're gonna come down on pennyfarthings when I see 'em or dive into a fit of Dada paintings... come on Henry, just don't do it.

I'm honestly starting to enjoy these podcasts more than the regular ones even though I have absolutely no interest in racing, don't follow the world cup and once fell asleep while trying to watch a race on redbull TV! Well done guys and keep it going!

Who has time for podcasting when the pits are 4km away!?

I just saw the crash that was talked about... That's why they need a rider's union. They need a voice in preventing things like that. Maybe more than one rider's representative is needed so it's not all on one person...
  • 2 0
More of Harry Jenkinson's normal rider's eye view for the common rider please

Henry has jokes I love it. Also dude loves movies.

Would love an interview with a privateer mechanic like yall mentioned last episode.

@Brian Park Buck boys stickers when?

Anyone has the link to that video with Ed Masters that they are talking about?

Great commentary, great insight. Ben and Henry are a couple of smart dudes. Well done.

Even if you're a member of a "real"/"formal" union you don't have to strike just because the union is
  • 6 0
What's the point of being part of a union then? It only works if everyone works together.
  • 1 3
@Linkpin: yeah I agree a union is stronger if everyone works together. But saying that a disadvantage of a union is that you might have to strike when you don't want to isn't really fair
  • 4 0
@Bobadeebob: I think a better way to put it would have been to say the vision of the union isnt always going to align with your personal belief/vision and wont always benefit you.

Another potential downside of a sports union is the athletes at the top normally have to give up something (salary) for the benefits of the rest of the field.

Whats troublesome about this particular "union" is that it only includes the top 30 whose self interest will certainly be differently aligned then up and comers and those just trying to hang on in the sport.
