Peace has returned to the fairways of Whittlebury Hall as Core Bike closes its doors for another year. We took one last spin around the show for a final dose of randoms.

Cane Creek

photo

Cane Creek's Helm now has a 44mm offset option for 29 inch forks. It's identical in all other ways to the existing fork with coil and air options available but if you want an aftermarket upgrade to hop on the short offset trend, this could be for you.

DMR

Here's one of two new colours on the 26” wheel frame that DMR are now calling the Sect Custom (srp £300), which will be available in early March.

photo
photo

DMR have added the word Custom to distinguish it from the complete Sect bike that is coming early April and uses a different frame.

SixSixOne

photo

SixSixOne were showing off the prototype of this Recon Advance body armour at Eurobike last year and after some materials and cut adjustments they now have the production ready version. It's got pockets and protection aplenty and will retail at £199.99 when it's released in June.

Endura

photo

Ross Bell first spied a work-in-progess of this MT500 full face on his recent visit to the Endura factory and these are the first production samples. The green tubes are the Koroyd core protection that is found in other helmets in the Endura range and is designed to be a lightweight way to absorb impacts. The helmet will cost £189.99 and is due in summer.

Muc-Off

photo

Ever get oil and grime splashing up from the road on to your disc (edit: while driving with your bike on the rack)? Here's the catching solution from Muc-Off.

Gore Wear

photo

Here's a new packable Gore jacket specifically designed for mountain bikers. The hood, torso and arms all have Gore Tex Active material which should make it lightweight and breathable but also durable. A dropped tail to protect against spray and seam placements designed to fit with backpacks should make it a decent choice for riders. The jacket will cost £220.

Hope

photo

Hope's cranks have been updated to be both lighter and stiffer for 2019. The cranks should also be easier to fit from now on as they use a self extracting arm/axle interface. The cranks will be available in 165, 170 and 175mm lengths from March 1.

that muc off thing is ridiculous
  • 92 7
I'd have said the same thing until my rotors got somehow nuked by oil/grime/toxic sludge while on the back of my car in Utah. I'd definitely consider slapping a set on in hindsight (and uhh in black).

 @brianpark:
I'm pretty sure they're just for while you're cleaning/storing/transporting the bike... I don't think you would ride with them fitted.
  • 28 0
As someone who has driven plenty with a bike mounted to a hatchback bike rack i thought they were ingenious and a great idea for any long distance driving. For the everyday commute to the trails, yes it is ridiculous lol.
  • 16 0
 @brianpark: re-reading, i think i misread/misunderstood.
They're definitely a good idea, the amount of times i've gotten to the trail to find my pads contaminated is frustrating. Nice protection from spray lubes during cleaning too.

As a PINKbike contributor surely you're on board with the pink graphics though? Wink
  • 35 8
@sam264: LOL. no one with 2 brain cells to rub together would think those are for riding.

Still surprised we dont have tyre warmer yet.

@brianpark: if only it was smaller, the thing is gigantic!!

@sam264: Forget what the instructions say, somebody WILL try riding with it fitted on their bike. Shortly before they endo.

 @Ron-C: shortly before they enduro*

@brianpark: I heard DEITY is finally in the UK and had a stand there...no coverage of their kit???

@chyu: these are *this* far from have a heating element fitted to them. Nobody likes a cold disk.
  • 4 1
@BillyRay829: yep they are being distributed in the UK by ZyroFisher now and had a booth there. We chatted with those guys for a bit and they've got some cool plans in the works but weren't showing anything beyond their current line offerings.
  • 1 2
@brianpark: Not quite! Distributed by Silverfish now, used to be through Zyrofisher!

If you dont like it then Muck Off.
  • 1 0
Or, did they design those things so your brakes don't start to squeek like hell after washing the bike with Muc-Off?
I have never ever had problems with my rotors after a long car drive.
  • 1 0
 Seranwrap it next time?
  • 2 0
I just bought a set, I'm pretty happy with them so far. I have a 30-minute drive to the trailhead and in the winter the road grime, salt, and slush cover everything. without these covers, I was scaring away every living creature with my brakes howling after a wet drive. Now, I have clean calipers and rotors upon arrival and no more squealing. However, I did make some minor upgrades to my set. I added a flap of tape along the seem for the back piece and made the hub opening slightly smaller again with Tape. they are a little trickier to get on now but work quite well. When Muc off decides to make these even better I would add a pocket for the caliper and somehow make them close up cleaner and tighter around the fork. at the rear end of the bike, they close around the Stays quite well, but a little more room around the caliper would be nice. here's a couple pics

 I’m glad to...dis-cover...that disc-cover.

Thank you, thank you very much.

Holy Crap on a Cracker 220pounds! for a jacket, that's like $1 million USD. It would never see the light of day if I bought it. I would be to afraid to rip it.
  • 8 6
It's not that bad of a price for what you get. Packable and super light weight. And most high quality/well designed jackets go for around that.
  • 22 0
I don't know where you got that conversion rate, but those guys are ripping you off!!! I'll give you 220 British Pounds for only $200k USD. Plus $7.95 conversion fee.

200 or 300 buck ...It is better than being a paraplegic
  • 18 0
@Foes2001: I think we're talking about the rain jacket dude. Won't help *much* with impacts...
  • 9 2
@pinhead907: in all probability one will not have enough money for shuttles/lift access after spending 220 quids on jacket..so it can help with impacts somehow
  • 6 3
News just in: the exact opposite exchange rate has just become a reality.
  • 7 0
Good lord man, I have an Endura MT500 jacket that I got for Xmas year before last that cost $250.00. Best rain coat I’ve ever owned. This year my wife bought me a Kitsbow Icon shirt for about the same price. The two combined are absolutely amazing pieces of winter riding kit. The performance level is far above the average stuff. (Which I have plenty of btw) True enough I really can’t afford to have a closet full of high end kit, but there really is a difference. You do get what you pay for. Go on splurge, you’ll be glad you did.

@mtbros1264: there are lots of people with more money than sense. I guess they have to purchase clothing also.
  • 5 0
Its a GoreTex jacket. Their quality control is downright militant to ensure consumers get that lifetime quality. If it fails then you return it. 200$ for a Goretex jacket is relatively cheap (tho not for me). The only reason its cheaper is because its the more breathable (and less durable) 2 layer GoreTex instead of the traditional 3 layer. A typical Alpine GoreTex jacket designed to saved your life a bit is around 350-500$ and roughly 15oz.
  • 6 2
@oldtech: true for plenty of things, but tbh this jacket makes more sense than ANY $7-10K+ superbike.

IF you ride in the rain with any regularity, it is a better upgrade than pretty much any bike component.

Try a $100 jacket and compare to a $200-300 jacket while riding hard in proper rain and get back to me - waterproofing, breathability, weight (and in some cases durability) are a night and day difference.

So when it comes to money and sense, it always cracks me up to see jackets get so much flack compared to carbon and ti bits with pretty colors

@fattyheadshok: I need a root canal. Do you have any openings available?
  • 3 1
@honda50r: I’m not a dentist by any means. Not even close. I’m just an avid year round MTB rider with a wife that loves me enough to buy me some awesome riding gear every now and then. Most of my riding gear is several seasons old and has permafunk. If you really want to know what I do for a living go to www.superiorguitar.com or superiorguitar on FB and IG. Not a tooth to be seen.
  • 1 0
@fattyheadshok: some of us play with our teeth so...
  • 1 0
 @BenPea: That’s funny.
  • 1 0
@fattyheadshok: she sounds like a keeper! Down with permafunk¡

So, there's an open mould for the Fox Proframe?
  • 1 0
I like that it's less angular though. I've not ridden in the fox, but walking around the store it seemed really well vented. The endurance didn't look like it will beat as well.
  • 2 0
@jojotherider1977: Now all I can picture is you sprinting around a bike shop in board shorts and a full face helmet like some sort of crazy person.
  • 16 3
Hope I can afford those cranks.
  • 12 0
That Endura helmet should be call the Master Chief.
  • 1 0
 Haha hell yeah!
  • 1 0
Ah shucks, beat me to it
  • 7 0
Wondering now if i can some how finagle a shower cap to protect my precious brakes from road grime.
  • 4 0
The finish on the Cane Creek reminds me of speedway grey, one of my favorite colors (black with heavy silver metallic flake), since it goes so well with the other colors typically seen on a bike (without being plain black).
  • 5 1
Not sure if I'd feel comfortable with a honeycomb cheese grater attached to my head. Might need the Muc-Off to clean it after riding in the mud though Wink
  • 1 0
Better than a takeaway box like most other helmet brands. Koroyd does a much better job than EPS foam - all helmets should be using this stuff. If only they had a marketing budget to match MIPS.
  • 4 1
TIL: I bought Hope cranks 6 months too early! Frown

seriously, the adjustment system they previously used is pretty shitty when you put it next to the Sram system. Glad you finally escaped the bronze age, Hope!
  • 3 0
in all honesty if you're not looking for the colour options to look pretty on your bike, there´s better options out there than a 2d forged and CNC´d crank for that sort of money.
  • 2 0
@Bustacrimes: I don't understand why Truvativ/SRAM's hollow-forged options have disappeared unless it's because people who were paying retail for them want carbon for that price. Or that they're too durable.
  • 4 0
The Gore Tec cycling rain jacket that I have is well over 20 years old and still works fine. No leaks!
  • 3 0
Good to see Hope finally seeing sense when it comes to crank removal. I might buy a set.

Anyone want to buy some Hope cranks? Assuming I can get them off of the bike...
  • 1 0
Do self-extracting bolts have a good track record? E-13 cranks have a similar design feature and it's pure garbage- as-in "take a hacksaw to the spindle to get the crank off" bad.
  • 2 0
@bvd453: yes, they seem to work fine for modern sram cranks, and I never had a problem using them with squaretaper/octalink/isis
  • 1 0
@bvd453: Never an issue with the two sets of raceface six6 cranks I've had. Now, pedal inserts on the other-hand...
  • 1 0
I wonder if they'll make the Recon Advance in a short sleeve version. I generally like the look of it (though I'm not sure about some of the smaller pads), but already have elbow pads that I like.
  • 2 0
They already have the evo compression jacket "short" on their webstore which might be what you're looking for. I've got an 8 year old pressure suit that I can't wait to replace with that recon.
  • 2 0
Why can’t fork manufacturers make an elongated CSU with like a flip chip arrangement? That way (if you desire) you could change the offset and keep the same fork
  • 4 0
it would probably creak like hell
  • 2 0
@hairy1976: PERFECT! let's call it the Can Creak Hell
  • 2 0
"The cranks should also be easier to fit from now on as they use a self extracting arm/axle interface" --- About f*cking time...
  • 1 0
Those muc off brake things might be good, if they are durable enough, for preventing fork/chain stay rub on rear bike carriers
  • 2 1
The muc off guards are only for when doing something like lubing or cleaning your bike with toxic chemicals, it’s not meant to be on during the ride
  • 4 0
They're for when you're transporting your bike on a vehicle, to keep road grime and oil/grease from splashing up and contaminating your rotors and pads.
  • 1 1
 @Trudeez:
Ok, it’s just that the caption made it seem like the author thinks your supposed to ride with them on haha

  • 2 0
Not really big news. Been appearing and disappearing for a long time.

  • 1 0
 That endura helmet looks rad!
  • 1 0
It's an interesting bit. I'd love to know what the targeted weight is.
  • 1 0
That koroyd thing has proved to be to stiff to absorb impacts.
  • 1 2
My brakes take so much abuse, a little road grime is the least of my worries
  • 6 1
Until you arrive at the bikepark with your brake slipping through like somebody gave it a good lube. Happened to me. Cost me time and money,so i'll definitely invest in some of those protectors. It only takes one oily puddle and your brakepads are toast, and these seem like a nice and quick way to avoid that problem.
  • 1 1
@Loki87: Fair enough. 15 years of riding, travelling to and from bike parks, and getting road grime on my bike, and I'd still contend it's not worth my worrying. Purple brake rotors every 2-3 months, on the other hand, seem to do much worse to braking ability.
  • 3 4
Do people REALLY think those mucoff guards stay on the bike while riding ??? ????
