Rose Bikes Announces 10% Price Increase

Rose bikes has announced a second annual price increase of 10% on its bikes due to the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Last year, Rose announced increases of "8-12%" on its models and this has been followed with a further increase almost exactly a year later. Rose blamed supply chain issues for the price rises, saying, "New year, old challenges. Due to the still rising freight costs and a lack of raw materials, we are unfortunately forced to raise our bike prices by 10 percent again this year." If you want to buy a Rose bike at the current price, the brand is holding off on implementing the increase until March 28, so all bikes ordered on March 27 or before will remain at the current price.

Rose also reported longer bike delivery times due to increase bottlenecks, increased demand and limited capacities as a consequence of ongoing hygiene regulations. The brand is hoping to mitigate these delays by introducing partial shipping. It said, "In this way, our logistics department can already send you the items that are in stock. The rest just follow. We have also reduced the configuration of bikes so that your ordered bike gets to you faster. In addition, we are now increasingly cooperating with external partners who support us with bike assembly."

While we doubt that Rose is the only brand forced to raise its prices due to the current global situation, we admire its openness and transparency to announce it publicly. More info, here.

Given the prices of gas, electric, diesel, food, drink, council tax, insurance, child care, I won't be buying a bike in the foreseeable future anyway. Times are tight and it's only going to get worse.
  • 37 0
Thankfully not too much has actually improved (maybe aside from e-bikes) over the past few years, so as long as your frame is still in good condition replacing parts as they wear out is the way to go to keep costs down.

Still a shit state, going to take years until lifes costs vs incomes start to balance out again (lets hope)
  • 17 0
Yep. I'm going to keep riding my current bike until it literally falls to pieces. I think a lot of other riders are doing the same thing.

Yeah my 2018 Sentinel still has very current geo numbers. Whether it's your bike or your partner, be nice and buy them a few new treats ;-)

Exactly, and who outside of Germany is buying a Rose bike anyway...? I've never seen one in the flesh, never even heard somebody mention they know someone who has one and I work as an uplift Driver in a popular bike park!

  • 5 0
@weebleswobbles: I thought a brown out was when you had a big night and a curry the day before.
  • 4 1
@weebleswobbles: "Rolling"...key word. The "way to store the power your array produces" IS the electric car and/or electric bike. Can't remember the last time there was a multi-day power outage that would affect my ability to charge a car or bike. Not in the last decade of my life that's for sure.
  • 1 1
@landscapeben: I made the mistake of buying one a few years ago…regretted it right away when the bike turned up clearly damaged and their customer service tried to fob me off by saying it was part of the natural raw finish. I then found out that the rear triangle was badly misaligned from factory after it was prematurely eating bearings at a rapid pace. The rep in the U.K. at the time was great and helped where he could but the German customer service team were just outright rude, patronising and dismissive in every interaction with them.

Prices would probably go up, or companies would go bust.

The bike industry isn’t a cabal, if a company could reduce prices to corner the market it would.

Price increases are real, we have our third raw material increase in 6 months now, our electricity doubled, we have increased wages by 5% - we haven’t raised prices yet but will do in a month or so when we know just how far the increases will go.
  • 1 0
Problem with this mentality is that everyone is assumes the same starting point for everyone else. Any number of people will be getting their first bike this year, or their 10 year old bike is clapped out, or they just cracked a 2-year-old frame. Announcing a 1 or 3 year year boycott will never work.
  • 5 0
Yeah, I agree here. If the bike whores weren’t chasing the “latest and greatest” geo numbers year after year with a new bike, surely the demand drop would force numbers down. It’s comparable to all of the idiots who upgrade their iPhone every September. Don’t feed the machine.

Ya i had my perfectly good and pristine condition bike for sale and an emtb on order. But i decided i probably dont need to spend $7k on a bike which would just keep jacking the prices up even more.
  • 2 0
@StumpHumper45: That can be said for any consumer good. Whether it be a bike, iphone, house, bread and milk, etc. Supply and demand is what drives prices up. Things are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. No less, no more. Don't buy them and prices will drop until to people do.

For sure. Their road and gravel bikes are very popular in Europe. Some of their MTBs are a bit dated, but the new Root Miller is pretty decent IMO. It's a cookie cutter horst link bike, but it's pretty nice and you get great bits for the price. Had one on pre-order but cancelled after they announced an almost half a year delay.

This isn't nearly as bad as some of the Vitus bikes on CRC! My buddy is brand new to MTB and bought a Vitus Nucleus VR last year for ~$700 shipped to the US and the 2022 model is $999 BEFORE shipping with virtually the same spec! 2021 model have WTB tires and Tektro brakes, 2022 has Maxxis and Clarks, respectively, but everything else is the same.

Factor in shipping and that's a +50% price increase!!

I bought a full carbon fiber open mold fatbike frame and fork from ICan for less then $1000 shipped via air. Its better than the Rocky i had last year, and 10 lbs lighter. Complete build was around $3000 with carbon wheels from Light Bicycle.

The cost of bikes is on the North American side of the equation, not production. Brands are competing for factory bandwidth, and over paying. we will see what happens when the summer starts. Some accessory brands have been discounting already.

IMO, Bike brands that are over extending like Peloton are going to be on sale come the fall, with consolidation following.

I’m pretty sure the last thing I remember seeing Rose Bikes in the news for was a 10% price increase (either that or not selling to UK due to Brexit). But at least they’re being honest and upfront about it.
  • 3 1
At least they announced it. Other brands just slap a price in theirs and deal with it. Looking at these bikes...it may be the end of this brand.
  • 2 2
Sometimes I feel like I missed the user agreement when I signed up for PinkBike that asks users to be as insufferable and whiny as possible. If you genuinely believe that a brand can keep their prices the same in the face of the inflation the world over is seeing... Lol.

  • 1 0
@barnz0rz: Nah, you're right about that. I guess it's just the sense of entitlement I feel when I read comments on this site that gets to be a bit ridiculous from my perspective. People seem to actively want numerous companies to fail, and fail hard. Hell - even PinkBike itself is catching endless flak for trying to monetize itself the way a traditional magazine might. I don't like spending more money either, but I also want brands to succeed and have healthy competition within the market. Perhaps I never noticed it before as I mostly lurk, it just feels like being in the bike industry is even more of a thankless job than it was even in 2016.

  • 3 0
good for them, ugly bikes anyway. might as well make the price ugly too.
  • 2 1
So, a bike no one cares about is more expensive? I wonder if they’re going to announce price decreases when the supply chain is less affected.
  • 3 4
There’s no issues with supply. You know the rules. Every year the mtb industry takes a little more and gives a little less in return. Next year will be no different just a different excuse as to why they’re charging more for the same bike as last year only with a cheaper spec. Companies with share holders need to increase profits year after year and because there’s a limited number of customers this is how they do it.
  • 1 2
 @thenotoriousmic: Absolute tin hattery bullshit.
  • 3 0
@justanotherusername: haha someones clearly just been scammed over an NX equipped piece of tat. Right now there’s an accountant going through the spec sheet of whatever it was you was you over paid for working out to the bolt how they can make it cheaper to produce while there’s a marketing term working out how to squeeze the most out of doing the least and this happens in most industries it’s just mtb companies are particularly bad for it.
  • 1 2
@thenotoriousmic: I have not purchased a new complete bike for a few years and also dont like SRAM drivetrain but interesting imagination...

Of course a buyer is trying to save money on a full bike, of course a marketing team is trying to sell the bike and if you think mtb companies are particularly bad for it you are dreaming and need to look at some industries where they really drill down to the pence, the bike industry isnt even close and in comparison is a completely inefficient mess.

Like I say again, there is no cabal of bike companies working together to fix pricing in the industry, prices are rising because the 'norm' is absolutely f*cked right now - get used to it if you want to buy a new bike anytime soon.
  • 2 0
@justanotherusername: yeah I just made that bit up, you’re never getting a NX build for 6k in this day an age. Full deore with a Z2? Wink

No there’s no bohemian grove for bikes… yet, they just all operate from the same playbook. Infinite growth. Extract more money, give as little as possible back in return.
  • 1 0
@thenotoriousmic: As I said in the other post, every big company is on the infinite growth capitalist model - that's big business for you.

Haha, I don't really go for big brand bikes and like stuff thats a bit different, nothing wrong with a Z2 either, but the big companies will play like big companies.

  • 2 0

  • 4 1

  • 1 0
So they will send you half a bike, and you throw on spare bits? This is only going to go well.
  • 1 0
The way this works is actually impressively simple. Bikes get built/assembled/shipped to a brands warehouse and they hold onto them until the missing bits arrive. Once said bits show up they throw them into the box with the bike and ship them to the dealer/consumer.
  • 1 0
So once the shipping cost goes down Rose will bring down the prices? Or is it not a supply chain issue?
