Rossignol is recalling 2018 and 2019 model years of its All Track DH bike due to a fall hazard, Bicycle Retailer reports.

Rossignol is best known as a snowsports brand but has begun to diversify into the mountain bike world including now supporting an Enduro World Series team. It is recalling the RMH0006 2018MY Matte Black and RMH5009 2019MY Chartreuse models due to faulty welding leading to cracks.

The Canadian recall website states, "Rossignol has received reports of cracks forming at the head tube area of the bicycle frame in the above referenced models shipped to dealers between March, 2018 and October, 2020. This could lead to the frame's head tube and fork unexpectedly separating from the rest of the bicycle. This type of frame failure could result in severe injury or even death."

In total, Rossignol believes the recall applies to 153 units sold in the USA and a further 24 units sold in Canada. As of August 9, Rossignol has reported no injuries or incidents arising from the fault but is still advising customers to "immediately stop riding their Rossignol All-Track DH bicycles." They said, "Consumers will be contacted by Rossignol Dealer Services and directed to their nearest Rossignol dealer, or other appropriate service provider, to arrange for a replacement. Regardless of whether or not visible cracks are found, the frame's front triangle must be replaced. Replacement front triangles will be available in the beginning of May, 2021. Until the frame's front triangle is replaced by a qualified dealer, the bicycle must not be ridden."

For more information, consumers may contact the company directly by e-mail or by calling (800) 267-7547 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

 R.I.P bike park rental fleets.
  • 18 0
How "big" are these fleets if they sold less than 200 in Canada/USA?

 Resigndemall

They have a small fleet of Rosignoll's at Beech Mountain. But they're all usually cartwheeling down a bank or being dumped over in gravel on the green trail.

And I'm pretty sure they're all single crown, not dual.

Maybe the head tubes are cracking from newbie hucks to flat?
  • 1 0
 What bike?
  • 2 0
@blowmyfuse: They have dual-crown Rossignol's in the fleet too (source: some dudes in my group ended up renting a few during our trip there in 2019).
  • 1 0
I was thinking the same thing, only place I see them is at Beech. For some reason everytime I ride Beech I feel like there is more beginners wadding themselves up then most other bike parks. I mean I regularly see older people on 10 year old walmart bikes trying to ride there. Maybe its the location or somthing.

@blowmyfuse: I took the DH bikes out of service a few months ago when we were notified about the recall. By out of service I mean field destruction of the front triangles. We just took delivery of replacement front triangles a couple weeks ago.

@rustiegrizwold: Yeah the numbers the article gives are weird. Deer Valley had tons of these bikes when I was there in 2019. Pretty much half of everyone was either on one of these or the Rossignol ebike.
  • 1 0
@Sugarbrad: I'm gonna want to see that YouTube video.

I assume the park crew got to use the excavator on em!!! Big Grin
A little Office Space tribute video for bike frames...
  • 1 0
@Aem221: Proximity to Florida. Several resorts in Utah had accounts with Rossignol also.
  • 1 0
@blowmyfuse: Torch. That's a pretty standard request from any manufacturer during a recall. Field destroy, pictures of destroyed frames with serial numbers.

 Don‘t be gentle it’s a rental
  • 1 0
@Aem221: It doesn't help that the beginner trail funnels into an expert trail.
  • 3 0
@Aem221: I have been to Beech a few times, and I always saw the same thing you noticed. IMO, they run a very sketchy operation there. Way too many inexperienced riders on non appropriate bikes with half shell helmets on. Also we always ran into at least few renters that had bikes that were suspect at best. Badly frayed cables, brakes not working, clipless pedals when riders were wearing flat pedal shoes, loose stems..extc. Its like their bike park operation has become an afterthought.

@jason475: I wouldn't chalk that up to Beech's rental program. I've seen their park patrol snagging the rental bikes that have been ridden all day and do sweeper laps, so it's not that.

It's more the terrain on the mountain is NOT beginner friendly & most visitors who grab a bike are not knowledgable at all. The IFHT "I Only Ride Park" video was produced in Whistler. Newbie is a condition worldwide & only cured by trying.

By not beginner friendly, I mean that it's quite literally not a fire road. Virginia Creeper Trail is...and I watch entire families wreck on it. Whistler's green trail is only a little steeper than the Creeper Trail & we gooned it one day and had to get off of it halfway down the mountain when we were something like 20 minutes in & losing our minds of boredom.

I prefer my head tubes to expectedly separate from the frame.
  • 20 0
You should find yourself a Kona Entourage, maybe.
  • 41 0
Wow, impressed that they sold 177 of these things
  • 2 1
Right? Who the hell bought these things in North America (can understand Europe due to brand history). Have never seen one in person in Whistler.
  • 9 0
@gramboh: I worked on one of their carbon enduro bikes in a whistler bike shop! I mean it was the reps, and it was to swap the frame out for a warranty one as the original had cracked, but still
  • 1 0
@gramboh: there are some @ Sun Peaks
  • 1 0
@gramboh: I saw a couple at the Squamish clearance center a few years ago, never saw them up here though

And they thought they cracked the market!
  • 9 1
I don't recall these bikes being advertised
  • 19 2
@mrgonzo: Their marketing campaign was not all it was cracked up to be
  • 4 2
@browner: If they're going to fix this problem they need to get crackin

DH Rental Bike Fleet Requirements - Durable. Affordable. Huckable. Pick 2 It's a tough code to crack.
  • 6 0
 @blowmyfuse: aren't durable and huck
able the same thing?
  • 8 0
@ridingrascal: I set the rules in my reality. Pick 2. Beer
  • 2 0
It literally been anything else, a bad bearing, weak chain stays, and they would’ve been ok. But cracking head tubes on a DH bike, yuck! Sven, you had one f-ing job!
  • 1 0
Oh snap! That's a good one
  • 3 0
@blowmyfuse: I think that's what the Giant Glory is for, that exact set of requirements.
  • 26 0
I had no idea Rossignol even made mountain bikes.
  • 6 0
Might just be that they are licencing the name to some random crate-pusher company.
  • 8 0
I feel like I see a strangely high number of them in Park City
  • 6 0
 They bought FELT.
  • 1 0
@adrennan: Deer Valley used these for their rental fleet (at least smaller sizes/kids bikes) for a couple of years. No idea if they're still using them this year.
  • 2 1
@ratedgg13: and FELT pretty much disappeared after that- not that anyone noticed
  • 1 0
@FarmerJohn: rossi is folding felt mtb into their lineup, but their road bikes will continue as FELT from what i know.
  • 3 0
@waltworks: I had an opportunity to ride Deer Valley for one day in 2019 and I rented one of these dual crowns in an adult size large. I am feeling pretty lucky I ended the day in one piece.

@rallyimpressive my understanding was that Rossignol already had massive ski rental contracts and it just made sense for them to slap their name on some mountain bikes to supply those same ski hills with rental bikes.
  • 3 0
@tsn73: And your understanding is correct. You only see Ross bikes in ski ressorts, if shops take their skis and their bikes they get a better discount overall which is more advantageous for the shop and people renting bikes won't know the difference between a Felt/Ross and a Kona/Spé/Giant or whatever else. Aside from bike rentals you don't see Ross bikes anywhere, even here in their domestic market which says a lot about the credit they have in the MTB community. Maybe buying a brand with no image in MTB like Felt wasn't the best idea to try and penetrate the MTB world, especially considering they are not even re-using Felt 6 link suspension so they could have went to any big Asian maker, slap a Ross sticker and save a bunch of money for a similar end result.

 they dont.....
  • 13 0
Maybe if they copied their homework close enough they can find some old Commencal Supreme DH front triangles kicking around. The pivot points might just be in the same spot.
  • 7 0
It actually looks like the Airborne dh frame from a few years ago and at the time Airborne was owned by the parent company of DK bikes, leftover stock
  • 6 0
Until now I honestly had no idea Rossignol made bikes...
  • 6 0
Nothing screams off a well made quality bike like exo tyres on a DH bike.
  • 1 0
K2 left the bike market, Rossignol shouldn't have tried. What a waste of time. Plus if you travel somewhere and want to rent a bike for a day at a bikepark and not pack up all your own stuff, it would be so lame to pay $50 dollars or more to rent this garbage.
  • 3 0
Unlike K2 (in France at least) Ross has a massive ski rental network to whom they sell their bikes for summer with global discount which can't be challenged. The amount of actual MTBikers vs random people renting bikes is marginal at best and one could argue that random people who ski and know nothing about MTB could even find it reassuring to rent a bike in a ski ressort, "made" by the brand from which their rent their skis during winter.

A bike made by a company that doesn't make bikes and also looks like a Walmart / Canadian Tire bike? Sign me up!!
  • 6 0
Lets be honest, Rossignol doesnt make these, they bought an off the shelf frame with an assurance from the factory that they passed all the tests. Rossi got what they paid for
  • 3 0
Is it normal that the front falls off like this? Did R&D ensure that no cardboard or cardboard derivatives were used?
  • 1 0
Kenstone factory job isn't it? I'd like to see who uses MK, always seem to have success outside the usual astro/aprotech stuff. Does anyone know if the Hodaka factory still operates after their mid 2000s blunders?

 May 2021 for a new frames? That's a first ;-)

I know this bike is aluminum, but as a lucky youngster my first carbon fiber/graphite thing was the made in France Rossignol F200 Carbon tennis racquet in ~ 1981. I was a Matts Wilander wannabe. Loved it until stolen about 13 years later. Was a solid 'Inverted bridge' piece of plastic fantastic. Would be an interesting story to compare use over the years of aluminum and carbon in bikes, racquets, and skis.

This is an old article isn't it? I remember seeing it before and May 2021 was months ago
  • 2 0
That's is the same EXACT bike as the Airborne Toxin bike.
  • 2 0
 mustve been a XC pototype
  • 2 0
I feel like they could’ve just sent the guy an email with a return label
  • 1 0
 Rossignal makes DH bikes?
  • 3 0
 @rickityride09 no, apparently not
  • 2 0
 Who?
  • 2 0
Not heard of them either - but there are some pretty big bike companies out there that just dont get any press in western markets - ever heard of Sense bikes for example, or Caloi?
  • 2 0
They are big in the skiing market but I had no idea they sold mountain bikes.
  • 1 0
@BenTheSwabian: They bought Felt a couple years ago, and are apparently turning Felt in to a road bike brand and making Rossignol the mountain bike brand
  • 1 0
at least they keep the durability in line with their skis
  • 1 0
My Rosi skis were great but that might be because I service all my own skis
  • 1 0
 Looks like an old Commencal
  • 3 6
Rossignol, ask yourself a question. What would Kona do?
  • 8 0
 What would Pole do?
  • 2 0
@chriskneeland Please explain the downvotes. I don't like it when I don't 'get it'. Is it just Kona lovers?
  • 2 0
@iamamodel: People never owned a Kona Stinky and it shows
  • 1 0
@chriskneeland: Oh. That? C'mon man, that was years ago. The widespread frame failures of Santa Cruz and Ibis Mojo were more recent than that (over a decade ago) and all is forgiven.
  • 2 0
@iamamodel: Ya, but when I came into the game, it was the Kona's that were popular and they were failing at a scary rate. The other bike that comes to mind is the Intense 951. I'm sure there are others, but I don't recall a recall on these.
