Fasten your seat belts, speed limits have been broken during the production of this video. The opening round of the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup delivered everything we've been waiting for whole winter long. Jump on board Amaury Pierron's mind-blowing final run that secured him the top spot in Lourdes.—Red Bull Bike
Mechanic: Prepare bike for light speed. Pierron: No, no, no, light speed is too slow. M: Light speed, too slow? P: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to.... ludicrous speed.
ALL gasp.
M: Ludicrous speed? Sir, we've never gone that fast before. I don't know if this bike can take it. P: What's the matter, chicken? M: (in high pitch) Prepare bike, (back to normal) prepare bike for ludicrous speed. Fasten all bolts, make sure tyres are sealed, close all bike shops in the mall, cancel the 3-ring chain rings, secure all other riders.... P: (takes the redbull microphone) Gimme that you peddy excuse for a mechanic. M: sits in his seat and buckles up. P: (in microphone) Now hear this, ludicrous speed.... M Sir, hadn't you better buckle your helmet up? P: Aah, buckle this. (in microphone) Ludicrous speed, Go!
@AyJayDoubleyou: Yeah I think a few others took a similar line but not necessarily matching his speed. And a lot of guys rode around. Glad Daprela walked away from his crash there. A couple inches to the left and that'd have been his shoulder or collarbone meeting the tree.
@bananowy: he actually didnt take the same highline past that tree as Minaar and a few others did, Bernard Kerr used it one of his youtube clips. Seems like Pierron just rode everything that bit smoother and faster without any fancy lines
Looks like 25000 people attended - nonstop shouting/ screaming/ cowbells & insanity from spectators nearly the entire time. Does anyone know what crowd #s were. Lourdes is beyond sick… Redbull should cut to POV views during runs (if that was possible) during broadcast but maybe thats just not a thing yet…
@Aem221: Word, I missed that stat. Such a badass start to the race year, now only EIGJT MORE WEEKS til the next one because, you know… no one knows wtf that decision is about
I wasn't there this w-e even if I live in Toulouse (2hrs far by car) but I expected that: 40.000 people or such... I don't know. I'm agoraphobic so I prefered to ride during 2 days in some other mountains... and I watched it on RedBullTV after my personal adrenalin. That was sick, for sure. The french public is scary
One big local newspaper is saying that we were around 50 000... I really don't know if this is true and where they have found this info, but for sure it was like being in a stadium ! Unreal atmosphere, it was really great.
I was thinking the same. If it wasn't for the length of the video matching the time of his run it would be easy for someone who didn't know how fast he is to think the footage had been sped up. Insane.
So good to see him back, such an exciting rider to watch.
This track is rough and brutal Man, believe me. Sometimes I meet some local youngsters who ride it impressively well, but Amaury's run in definitely on another level. I'm gonna feel strange next time I'm gonna ride it :/
He very clearly got hung up a bit on that blown berm by the tree at 1:10 after he unclipped. I feel like he had another second + in that run had that not happened. Absolutely mad. He'll be the danger man for the season.
There is a Strava segment where I live called Bloody Nora! It's a bit steep. The average is 11% grade, but the beginning section is a wall at over 17%.
So sick! ... However, I wish GoPro would ensure these guys know how to export at high quality and ensure they can secure a high speed connection to upload the file. Such amazing footage gets compressed to shit and displayed at 1080. Bummer as that run needs to be seen in higher quality!
Internationally speaking and from my POV, it must be stimulating for the others competitors to have this motto: "beat those bloody frenchies, beat those damned frenchies"!!! Finn Iles, Luca Shaw, Greenland and few more have the good ticket for that aim, but still, I don't know why froggies are so fast... BTW: congrats to Luca Shaw for his 5th place, and not 6th
I always tend to be disappointed with kit choices but they are looking fly atm. The white kits looks ace...however if i turned up at my local all in white i'd get some looks...but hey...i do feel good with nice threads on.
Looks be damned!
If a white kit makes you happy and feel good, wear it! Life is too short to care about people looking at you funny because they're jealous.
With 3 minutes at this speed, I reckon this would be a day trip at my speed. Does anybody know whether there is a restaurant somewhere halfway down the track for lunch?
I’m surprised Pierron doesn’t win more, with out doubt the fastest rider just bloody ridiculous speed and that’s on a POV when usually they look like your out for a cruise!
Probably because he rides at 110% in race runs. Not to say all of the top dudes aren't pushing their limits, but it seems like Amaury takes this up a level. Checkers or wreckers for sure. The downside to this is we barely got to see any of him over the last two seasons...
Looks like the old Wipeout video game in HD with real graphics...It made me almost sick of imagine me over that bike,I want to puke hahaha. It is incredible!
@jf94: Are you inferring that Amaury should've been punished more than he was? Because he reposted something his black friend put on instagram after giving him a hairdo? It was undoubtedly stupid of them to do what they did and they've both apologised. One lost his job and the other continually gets tarnished as racist. How many racists get their black friends to style their hair?
How does a giant media company like Red Bull not help these athletes with their media. World Cup run shot only in HD on a GoPro. Why not 4K? It's only a 3 minute recording.
I really wish you'd wait a bit longer before putting results in the damn title. In the future I will have to avoid Pinkbike entirely until I can watch the event.
Great for your advertisers.
@Whataboutism: I know I’m not the only one in the world that can’t watch it the day of. Seems like a courtesy to wait at least 72 hours. I don’t understand why you need to be a dick about it. Did it hurt your feelings?
@SimbaandHiggins: It wasnt a matter of "discipline." I didnt think PB would post it yet. They've waited longer in the past. Regardless, in the future I will certainly avoid PB until ive watched it.
@Whataboutism: I reread my comment and I dont think its absurd. Im just venting a frustration: " Damnit! I didnt want to know the results! Damn you PB!! *waving fist in the air."
Its not like im gonna lose sleep over it. Just bummed. Can I not be bummed?
I think that you're overreacting to a pretty trival comment.
@rallyimprezive: My comment was meant to be absurd(which I think your is a little bit) I'm not trying to get you pissed or overreact, maybe a jk at the end of mine would of taken any percieved bite out it. I just assumed(i get it...) in todays society where you can get real news faster than a website i.e.(insta, twitter, tiktoc) it would be no surprise to see the results the next day and to say it hurts the ad revenue because people won't go to the site because results might be in the title is a bit much, IMO. Cheers man enjoy your day.
@brianpark: I appreciate the response Brian. My ignorant 2 cents: You could say "Video: Winning POV run from the Lourdes World Cup!" still get the clicks from people who know, and do a solid for those who cant watch within one day. I understand that's a compromise and im clearly a minority here. I will just stay off MTB industry news/social media next time. I'll be watching tonight. Looking forward to the girls' runs since I havent seen the results for that yet!
@rallyimprezive: hey buddy Camille Balanche won, Pompon ate her bars in the rocks but held on for 2nd, T.Seagrave in 3rd. Vali Höll was 4th with no incident. Glad I could help out a superfan stay up!

Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.

He seemed to also just send it straight in some places, also to kind almost have the rear wheel slip out and recover, so sweet.

My POV looks sloooow motion against this.
