I crashed at least 6 times during this run...and I'm sat at my desk.
  • 8 0
It made my brain hurt how fast he was going.

Mechanic: Prepare bike for light speed.
Pierron: No, no, no, light speed is too slow.
M: Light speed, too slow?
P: Yes, we're gonna have to go right to.... ludicrous speed.

ALL gasp.

M: Ludicrous speed? Sir, we've never gone that fast before. I don't know if this bike can take it.
P: What's the matter, chicken?
M: (in high pitch) Prepare bike, (back to normal) prepare bike for ludicrous speed. Fasten all bolts, make sure tyres are sealed, close all bike shops in the mall, cancel the 3-ring chain rings, secure all other riders....
P: (takes the redbull microphone) Gimme that you peddy excuse for a mechanic.
M: sits in his seat and buckles up.
P: (in microphone) Now hear this, ludicrous speed....
M Sir, hadn't you better buckle your helmet up?
P: Aah, buckle this. (in microphone) Ludicrous speed, Go!

Jesus, that section in the woods... Threading the needle with the trees coming up at mach speed.
  • 7 0
noticed that on the live stream. everyone else seemed to have to steer around them, Pierron somehow found a straight line through them.
  • 5 0
@AyJayDoubleyou: Yeah I think a few others took a similar line but not necessarily matching his speed. And a lot of guys rode around. Glad Daprela walked away from his crash there. A couple inches to the left and that'd have been his shoulder or collarbone meeting the tree.
  • 1 0
@AyJayDoubleyou: We kept calling it the Minnaar line as he was the first it seemed to do that line. But Amaury had it on another level.
  • 6 0
Some of those trees could have had a bit of padding on, one tiny mistake could be catastrophic!
  • 1 0
With the track warn-in, you can see how much different Amaury lines choices are from the rest of the group. Unreal!!!
  • 1 0
Really puts some perspective to T-Baut's crash
  • 2 0
@bananowy: he actually didnt take the same highline past that tree as Minaar and a few others did, Bernard Kerr used it one of his youtube clips. Seems like Pierron just rode everything that bit smoother and faster without any fancy lines

Looks like 25000 people attended - nonstop shouting/ screaming/ cowbells & insanity from spectators nearly the entire time. Does anyone know what crowd #s were. Lourdes is beyond sick… Redbull should cut to POV views during runs (if that was possible) during broadcast but maybe thats just not a thing yet…
  • 17 0
I heard them saying 40,000 or so on the broadcast
  • 8 0
Rob said on stream that there were 40,000 people
  • 13 0
@Aem221: Word, I missed that stat. Such a badass start to the race year, now only EIGJT MORE WEEKS til the next one because, you know… no one knows wtf that decision is about
  • 4 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: UCI probably. They do care a lot about mtbiking.
  • 1 0
@zoobab2: Not sure what you mean? I was unclear: from the POV the crowd views were pure insanity...so good, looks much bigger than on TV.
  • 1 0
I wasn't there this w-e even if I live in Toulouse (2hrs far by car) but I expected that: 40.000 people or such... I don't know. I'm agoraphobic Smile so I prefered to ride during 2 days in some other mountains... and I watched it on RedBullTV after my personal adrenalin. That was sick, for sure. The french public is scary Smile
  • 3 0
One big local newspaper is saying that we were around 50 000... I really don't know if this is true and where they have found this info, but for sure it was like being in a stadium ! Unreal atmosphere, it was really great.
  • 1 0
@Aksel31: T'as vu un article dans la Dépêche, notre torchon local? Smile
Ils se sont pas casser le cul pour couvrir l'évènement... Misère!
  • 5 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: probably because after the speed achieved during this run, it'll take 8 weeks for the earth to return to its regular rotation
  • 4 0
Looked like such a fun event to go to. World cup circuit needs to add a western USA race so I can go lol. Maybe Northstar one day..
  • 3 0
@DylanH93: northstar from the way top!
  • 2 0
@andraperrella27: oh man that would be sick. Now to convince the UCI lol.
  • 41 0
That is absolutely wild. Looks like it’s in fast forward
  • 16 0
I was thinking the same. If it wasn't for the length of the video matching the time of his run it would be easy for someone who didn't know how fast he is to think the footage had been sped up. Insane. So good to see him back, such an exciting rider to watch.
  • 6 0
I had to check the YouTube playback speed....twice.
  • 17 0
Holy cow, people always go on about his Les Gets run POV but I'm finding this one a lot more intense! Total insanity and a well deserved win!
  • 21 0
Amaury footage is immune to the gopro effect. He just looks so fast all the time.
  • 5 1
This track is rough and brutal Man, believe me. Sometimes I meet some local youngsters who ride it impressively well, but Amaury's run in definitely on another level. I'm gonna feel strange next time I'm gonna ride it :/

@danstonQ: "Sometimes I meet some local youngsters who ride it impressively well, but Amaury's run in definitely on another level. "

Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.

" I'm gonna feel strange next time I'm gonna ride it :/"

Why?
you're a f*cking weirdo...
  • 13 0
With these mistakes still faster than the rest. When he is on, he is hard to beat
  • 11 0
He very clearly got hung up a bit on that blown berm by the tree at 1:10 after he unclipped. I feel like he had another second + in that run had that not happened. Absolutely mad. He'll be the danger man for the season.
  • 2 0
It's wild how you can hear him gasp when he does then and then he gets his breath back under control in the next section
  • 13 0
Bloody Nora I need a drink after that.
  • 2 3
There is a Strava segment where I live called Bloody Nora! It's a bit steep. The average is 11% grade, but the beginning section is a wall at over 17%.

So sick! ... However, I wish GoPro would ensure these guys know how to export at high quality and ensure they can secure a high speed connection to upload the file. Such amazing footage gets compressed to shit and displayed at 1080. Bummer as that run needs to be seen in higher quality!
  • 8 0
120 fps will be the new standard for this kind of speed...I just don't...understand.
  • 9 0
This is why we are all on Pinkbike and not on the box
  • 5 0
Internationally speaking and from my POV, it must be stimulating for the others competitors to have this motto: "beat those bloody frenchies, beat those damned frenchies"!!!
Finn Iles, Luca Shaw, Greenland and few more have the good ticket for that aim, but still, I don't know why froggies are so fast...
BTW: congrats to Luca Shaw for his 5th place, and not 6th Wink
  • 1 0
It's like Rob Warner was saying. Must be something in the water haha.
  • 8 0
I don´t get it. How is the even possible?
  • 9 2
For a second I thought someone stole and posted some my riding POV footage. Mine is a little faster on average.
  • 5 1
I always tend to be disappointed with kit choices but they are looking fly atm. The white kits looks ace...however if i turned up at my local all in white i'd get some looks...but hey...i do feel good with nice threads on.
  • 8 0
Looks be damned! If a white kit makes you happy and feel good, wear it! Life is too short to care about people looking at you funny because they're jealous.
  • 1 0
@kmo344: I want white! I want crazy colors! Bring back NEON.
  • 1 0
@4thflowkage: Why the hell not?! Lain Van Ogle makes neon orange sweatshirts look good on a bike.
  • 5 0
Insane athleticism and I was holding my breath watching this one....wild run.
  • 5 0
I don't normally watch POVs.... But when I do, its because of PEIRRONNNNN!!!
  • 4 0
With 3 minutes at this speed, I reckon this would be a day trip at my speed. Does anybody know whether there is a restaurant somewhere halfway down the track for lunch?
  • 1 0
So sick, Lourdes definitely has that steep gnarly terrain that just seems to play into Amaury’s hands.

He seemed to also just send it straight in some places, also to kind almost have the rear wheel slip out and recover, so sweet.
  • 3 0
Mind bending. The entire top ten after Greenland just kept bending the limits. Masterpiece of a race!
  • 1 0
No kidding! After Luca came in 1.5 up I thought he definitely put down a podium run if not the winner. Wow I was wrong.
  • 1 0
I’m surprised Pierron doesn’t win more, with out doubt the fastest rider just bloody ridiculous speed and that’s on a POV when usually they look like your out for a cruise!
  • 1 0
Probably because he rides at 110% in race runs. Not to say all of the top dudes aren't pushing their limits, but it seems like Amaury takes this up a level. Checkers or wreckers for sure. The downside to this is we barely got to see any of him over the last two seasons...
  • 2 0
It's pretty apt that his breathing sounds the exact same as a pilot trying not to blackout from the G's when pulling manoeuvres!
  • 3 0
That was a massive mistake in the top section! He is truly an alien
  • 1 0
Looks like the old Wipeout video game in HD with real graphics...It made me almost sick of imagine me over that bike,I want to puke hahaha. It is incredible!
  • 3 0
What did he say at the end when he hit the ground?
  • 5 0
 I'm a bit early
  • 7 0
 I believe it was "Putain".

 PUTAIN!!!! putain!!!!
... which means "flowers and unicorn" in french Smile
  • 1 0
Ah, "Reecky Booby"! Now we shall dance...and yes, it will be a slow jam!
  • 2 0
Actually, he braked only once during this run...maybe two, to avoid crashing into the fans at the end.
  • 3 0
 Dude engaged warp factor fuck.
  • 2 0
 Holy sh*t, that was fast…
My POV looks sloooow motion against this.
  • 2 0
I love how he celebrates by shouting "Putain" at the top of his lungs ahha
  • 3 2
My goodness I sharted like 8 times especially the trees scene and I’m laying in bed
  • 2 0
Guess his suspensions have high speed and very high speed settings
  • 1 1
There's me thinking, damn it's a pity Amaury hurt himself but Loic is fastest qually, whoop gonna get some points! Guess not.
  • 2 0
 Fast as f***
  • 2 0
 Is this x 2 speed?
  • 1 0
how do you have time to blink going that fast....so cool to watch.
  • 1 0
Insane run, but that blind jump at 1:54 is precision pure.
  • 1 0
Holy shiz that is 100% ridiculous
  • 2 0
 damn!!!! just damn!!!!
  • 1 0
Thanks redbull! I blinked and missed his run on the livestream!
  • 2 0
 WOW !!
