Two-time World Champion Danny Hart signs with the new Cube Factory Racing! 29-year-old Danny Hart exploded onto the elite downhill scene with his now-legendary gold run at the 2011 World Championships. Hailing from Redcar on England's north-east coast, the two-time UCI Downhill World Champion has multiple World Cup wins under his belt. Fondly known as the Redcar Rocket, Hart has made a name for himself as unstoppable on treacherously steep tracks in muddy conditions. In 2019 Danny finished on the podium at every round of the World Cup. Starting 2021, Danny, who with his wife Sophia has just welcomed a baby daughter, will ride for the Cube Downhill Factory Team under a long-term contract.
A few years back I had the chance to do some events with the Cube crew, like test tours and event stuff. The crew just felt like a welcoming, big family. Good times were has! I think Danny fits perfectly in there. Say about the bikes what you want, but if it’s good for Danny, it’s probably good enough for the average every day rider. They came a long way during the last years alone! Cheers to the Cubies!
I am trying some bikes to decide what will be my new bike and I have to say that the stereo 150 is one of the best if not the best! Not so slack, not to long, a super trail bike imho.
@flyingfox49: Cube bikes do have a reputation for being a bit hungry bearings-wise, however I've owned 2 different Specialized Enduros and a Canyon trail bike. For all of these bikes, the pivot bearings started to fail after ~1.5 years. Two friends on Santa Cruz bikes (Hightower LT, Megatower) crushed their bearings within the first year. So tbf, I hardly know anyone without these issues. It kind of seems to be an overall issue unless you live in a region with a super dry climate
@Alexh1983: I've got the 2019 model and it's awesome. Had a Nukeproof Mega before - really good but the Stereo is better for all day and doesn't need to be on the fastest, steepest stuff to be good fun. No probs with bearings yet (looking at further comments) but the mega used to get through a set every year.
@loamylaps: they all use those tiny bearings and in my opinion, they don't like to just rotate in a 15 degree range. I think any frame is going to go through bearings to be honest... Even ones that have great auxiliary sealing.
@nukedchipp: actually I am between this one and a stumpy carbon comp. If I look at the value and components it's a no brainer. Stumpjumper has swat and maybe little lighter. But I have some components to swap, with an xt cassette and a carbon bar you get also a light bike!
I like Danny but that video sucked, he can't help sounded so monotone and that music just made it so so boring who whats to see a video with someone riding to a banjo ?
Nice video! Can't wait to see how Hart does on Cube next season.
Bit of a clickbaity title though Pinkbike....that's hardly Danny Hart "Charging hard". It's more of a mellow photoshoot for the new team on a bike that appears too big for him.
Is it just me who thinks Danny looks a bit awkward on this bike? I think it's the 29" wheels, considering he has been on a mullet for the last few seasons.
@alexbg: there is that thought about Phil Atwill. Bossed it on Propain and went a bit flat on Cube. I hope they get the bike set up how DH likes it. It's awesome to see him on winning form.
@jaame: Some people might say the same about Hart once he moved to Saracen - I think he only had the one WC win in the three years after coming a close second overall the year before on Mondraker...
I am no WC DH rider but I can really care less about what bike frame a top WC rider is on. I mean, it's cool to notice, but they are all good and any factory team will assemble solid technical people to dial in the bike to specific needs.
Once the obvious is taken care of, like any dangerous sport at that level, it's becomes not so much about the machine as it is about the mind. How clear is your head space, how even are you emotionally, how much are you willing to keep your fingers off the breaks and send? This is why a factory setup is so beneficial to top pros. The benefits its the ability to clear the head space of a pro and let him/her get into the mindset where they can do a run at maximum attack is difficult to quantify.
So all of that being said - if Cube is that good of a fit for Danny, his family, etc.. and he is that stoked on them and they are on him and everything is running smoothly - he will be fast. 100% guaranteed. If not - it's a very quick descent down the rankings.
I do like brands that are active in racing. I also don't have the illusion that this will translate to me becoming a better rider, just because I have the same bike as Danny Hart (which is of course not really the same bike anyway). However, it does make me like the brand more.
I forget which podcast it was, I think Ed Masters on Gypsy Tales but it's not always safe to assume any bike is capable enough for the rider. The old GT downhill bikes were a mess and the riders gambled with the bike staying together by the bottom of the hill.
When I see people like Gwin or Minnaar thinking about every click of their bike settings, I really do believe that each bike has its own flaws. Especially since you need a different setup for each track and weather condition. Riding a bike that you don‘t feel 100% comfortable with definitely can mess with your head and everything else team structure, sponsors, pit setup etc. comes on top.
If any of these things don‘t work in your favor you‘ll walk away from that brand trying smth new. So...
He’s got bags of commitment and motivation which is what you need to win (in any sport really). I do just wonder if there are others coming through now that are just better than him, regardless of how much he trains and practices. I wish him all the luck I’ll be rooting for him
So sick, he's simply about the bikes, no bullshit.
Awesome that he's got a kid and even more motivated to win. New forget champery WC in 2011, drunk as shit climbing down that hill and into the SRAM truck for a mad party!!!
Hopefully we will see Danny back at the top step again where he belongs! Has anyone bought a mtb from Germany yet and got it delivered after this brexit sh#t because I’m waiting for my propain to come and just got a email From them saying I have to contact custom authority’s about the extra cost! Just wondering what you guys did if there is anyone who has gone through this hassle yet! Cheers guys
Danny, as a 1991 class as you i can only wish you the best from racing to family, people can say What they want but don't listen to them and go straight to your goalS! Cheers man!!
Doesn't look anything like it to me, although it's been a while since I was last there as it was pretty much abandoned, more likely to be near Braytons place
I am not putting Cube down at all, as I am sure they are great bikes and are a great company, "but" I just feel Danny deserves more considering his skills and his past results. He should be riding for one of the bigger teams, but ultimately it is his decision and I respect that.
Cube is the biggest bike brand in Europe, they have the budget and a great team of engineers behind Danny. We will see what happens this season...IMO he is a contender for the overall, definitely one to watch this season. Good luck Danny!

Good things happen to good people.
We have got your back.
