@neimbc: would do love to see an edit with the three of them doing a game of bike and a road trip around abandoned USSR architecture! Askrigg, McAskill, Wibmer, make it happen guys!
The technical climbing was actually very interesting to watch and a skill set that isn't often showcased. Dude's bike handling skills are on another level!
Oh yeah, I love his technical climbing more than any descending I've seen in any video. I love to see how people would refer to this video to point me at how you need a high saddle and a steep seat tube angle for technical climbing.
Came here to say this. You can often pick out the hitable features in these types videos just before the riders actually hit them. This one... nope.
Skills for days on that lad.
Yes. The term shall be reserved for accomplished trials riders who can also turn up to a famous road hillclimb sprint in jeans and use a dirt jump bike to beat people on dedicated, 12 lb hillclimb bikes ... which is a pretty short list of people.
Imagining that this was all actually linked, I would LOVE to see that as an enduro segment. A super tech, trialsy enduro would be so much fun to watch.
This guy is better than everyone you know! That chunky climb at the end was damn impressive! Surprised someone bigger than Mongoose hasn't sponsored this guy.
I am actually surprised Mongoose cannot make more out of their sponsorship of a guy like this. As a brand that has been around forever, if they started selling high-end spec'd bikes at a reasonable price they could be seen as a much more desirable brand... but if you take the time to go to their website you will not find something that looks like what Chris is riding. In any case, good on them for sponsoring his bad-ass riding.
@grant725: That's kind of what they've done in BMX. They're Legion L100 is pretty much the best specced cheap bike out there.
I can't figure out what he's riding either though. Maybe a yet to be released version of the Teocali? The frame looks more like the Boot'r downhill bike than the current Teocali though.
@ChristophColombo: probably right..guys with that kind of talent usually have several manufacturers tossing sponsorship offers at them. Wonder what the appeal of Mongoose is too him...maybe they just treat him like gold and send him wherever he wants on their dime....what a crappy life..lol
@hyroller80: I think your right. Sponsorship is about the full package and Mongoose must give him the funds and flexibility that he needs, to do what he wants to do, in the way that he wants to do it. He's been with them a while so I imagine there is an element of loyalty on both sides.
Chris seems like he knows what he wants and whats he is worth, he plays by his rules and schedules -as long as he can get to do the things he wants I am sure he is happy - seems a pretty loyal ambassador too, stick with the ones that support you, he may not meet the extreeme views of the likes of wibner, but very different attitudes at work there -
I think he rides them by choice due to the range of bikes they have that keeps things fresh for him. He talks about it in his documentary which is worth a watch!
Weird, isn't it? We all watch him ride his Mongoose, and carry on not buying Mongeese. I can understand that he may be happy, it's a bit hard to believe they are...
@BigDummy: I dont think he actually gets paid by mongoose. I think it's the parent company that pays him. So even if he gives you the Stoke, and you go and buy a GT or whatever, they still get paid.
@BigDummy:even weirder thing is that Mongoose in the UK for MTB is pretty much non-existent, and while Chris is loved, and seen, all over he really is so British ... I mean full on Yorkshire British .. lol - and it is odd for us in the UK I think, to see him riding Mongoose, it's always a hot topic whenever he releases a vid, simply because its juts not a known MTB brand over here.
In fact, i cant even find the frame he is riding on Mongoose site anyway ... defo not on UK as their is only 1 jump bike there, but USA only have varying levels of hardtails ... actually scrap that, I saw it, oh boy --
Whenever I get to a super technical rocky section that I can't ride, I never think to myself "this is not possible" anymore. I always look at it and think "how would Chris ride up this?"
Fuck Game of Thrones, this is the best 4.36 minutes of my life. That editing, music, and ofcourse raw skill...damn I wish I never skated and just started mtb'ing young.
The purity and apparent simplicity of Chris's videos are what blow me away, but, of course they are not simple at all, he is just that damn good.
Big players like Wibner, with his viral big leaps and merch adverts, and Danny Mac, with his slick, Hollywood level productions are good, but give me a simple and pure Akrigg video and I know whats first on the watch list.
As far as i'm concerned- there's Akrigg, and there's everyone else.
Sometimes his his stuff really blows me away as much as, or even more, than Danny's.
The fact that he's still loyal to mongoose just blows my mind. There's a guy who could get signed by any company at the drop of a hat, but he's content with riding for mongoose and doing his own edits. Respect!
Second time through, I saw the word "CARACHO" at 1:35. Quick bit of Googling reveals that this building was a famous nightclub called Sala Caracho. It's located about 56 km north of Malaga, which is on the Mediterranean coast of Spain.
Yeah I was wondering when did Europe get hit with a zombie apocalypse? So many riding videos in ruins that look like they were fancy places in the 90's makes me thing something is amiss...
@DGThree agreed. But if there were ever an ad for why you would want/need hubs with 690 points of engagement, this guy is a walking (riding) advertisement. (Of course, he could probably still manage it if he had 6 poe...)
I used to have these skills (not to the same level though) back in the 90s. I stopped riding for 20 years and got back into mountain biking 3 years ago. I lost almost all my trials skill (and balls!). Seeing these sorts of video (especially Chris due to the similar riding style) reminds me and makes me sad. If I had kept riding for those 20 years things would have been so different......
Akrigg was recently on Skngletracks podcast. He seemed like a super cool guy with an interesting approach to riding. Talked about how he would rather get creative on a bit of familiar trail than constantly visit exotic locations. He’s also putting out a video series about how he “digs” to set up his shots.
Such an underrated guy and underrated bike company I rode mongoose for many years but couldn’t stand customer service when you called the phone options were garage door opener, garbage cans then mongoose bikes then the people had no clue in the bikes..mongoose could be a great company if someone bought them and took them in the right direction
This reminds me of A Hill In Spain, which is my all time favourite edit. Such explosive power on this one though! Super talented and obviously super hard working, commited rider! Keep it up, it makes people grab their bikes and go out!
Real question: has anyone ever actually seen one of these higher end Mongooses? I mostly ride alone or with the same people so I don't see different bikes all that often.
I'm not sure what he's riding here. It actually looks more like the Boot'r DH bike than it does the current Teocali, but the top tube seems thinner and more curved, so I assume they didn't use the Boot'r as a base.
I've never seen one of the high end Mongoose bikes, but I did almost buy a Boot'r this year a park bike. It's reasonably specced for it's $2499 retail price but the price of my size kept going down, and down, and down. I was going to pull the trigger when it got under $1000, but right as it neared there, someone must have bought the one from the retailer that wanted it gone and it jumped up to it's more normal price between 2000-2500. I wish I'd pulled the trigger.
He is riding the Teocali. I rode a Pinn'r for 5 years and it was actually a pretty fantastic bike! I bought it off Craigsist for $1,300 and it was only a year old. Top spec Fox suspension, Avid Codes, and SRAM X01 drivetrain. It hit all my local dh trails and Whistler 3 times before I sold it. My only complaint is that it was too small.
@reximus42: Unless a new Teocali is coming out, the Teocali doesn't have a brace from the top tube to the seat tube and it's top tube is more kinked than the one in the video.
Chris: Yes please.

Endurbros: can we stop using the word “trail” when we’re going full send?
If you watch the whole thing in one go you might hurt yourself
I can't figure out what he's riding either though. Maybe a yet to be released version of the Teocali? The frame looks more like the Boot'r downhill bike than the current Teocali though.

I'd like to know what bike he's riding and stuff like rims, tyres, etc.

And I built two Boot'R (2012) from the frame.
Awesome riding! Great skills
Just get a Mongoose!
