Video: Stefan Mueller Turns His Bike into a Lawnmower in Self-Isolation

Apr 20, 2020 at 4:41
by James Smurthwaite

Is this the best #stayathomebikechallenge yet? Stefan Mueller has converted his bike into a lawnmower so he can keep fit, do chores and obey lockdown at the same time.

While we imagine this probably isn't covered under warranty, it's great to see Stefan getting creative while under lockdown and also wearing a helmet to ensure his local health service isn't overwhelmed if he has a crash.

The Austrian rider fired us through a picture of his creation in all its glory:

With lawnmower racing already an established sport in the UK, can we expect the UCI to sanction a new discipline of cycling competition soon? We'll keep you updated when we hear more.

Is that the new Aggrassor tire?

In all seriousness, it was mowing down the competition. Others can't make the cut.

@CentralVTMTB: if only we could weed-out these bad puns...

@mikeyrides: What kind of bike is that? Full carbon monocot?

@mikeyrides: Stop beating around the bush and tell us what you really think

@mitochris: Or the Grassegai? No labels - must be prototype.
  • 1 0
 @CentralVTMTB: You win. LMAO
  • 1 0
@mikeyrides: To do that it would need a little more rake.

You know what they say; "If there's grass on the field, mow some lawn. If not, put the knobby's on and play in the mud."

"Eats grass like a mountain goat and descends like a combine harvester"

@jamessmurthwaite: My only concern is that big brand could see it:
- 2 wheels front for better stability
- new wheel size
- new hub "standard"

Burn it before it's too late!

@lecriquet: too late a wider 2nd standard for ebikes is all ready coming
  • 10 0
@lecriquet: Just overfork it and call it downlawny to keep geometry in check.

The seat post angle was almost steep enough to satisfy Mike Levy but the head angle was very old-school. Surprisingly though, hey posted his fastest over-all lap time on this bike.

Scary on the fast downhills with no front brake, you would have to Mow down some small trees to slow down.

 Lawn, low, slack.

I did this last year but I took a gas powered push mower and connected it to an old child carrier frame. It was much better to pull it and it mowed SO much better. Two birds; one stone

Damm, now we have to start again, 6" cylinder, few years 7.5", eventually we get to 9"...

needs some tanwalls on the front, my OCD can't handle it
  • 2 0
That's so cool, I need to make one for myself !

Agreed. Handle on my manual mower broke years ago and have been using weedwacker for lawn.

You might actually have a product you can sell and turn into a business - worth looking into!
  • 1 0
It would actually be even better if you could hook it up to the rear and use the gears to drive the blade even faster than normal while driving the wheels slowly. Having had one of these, I often dreamed of getting it geared up correctly.

Grass ain't going to cut itself!

Now cutting grass is fun, and good for training!

Cross country race on those would be boring but a mass downhill race down a-line would be worth watching.

With this virus going on it is good to see that hopefully the grass is greener on the other side.

 Red Green would be proud!

Wow, I would actually mow my lawn if I had one of these. #mowtivationmonday?

They should rent these at the local golf course and build a few jump lines in between holes! Win-Win.

100% have grass in your fork. Don't care how perfect the seals are, you have whole-ass blades of grass in your fork now.
  • 1 0
Good thing everyone has time to do a fork service right now.

New fox 38 shredding gear being tested there for enduro grass cutting

And it's a reel mower, not some rotary crap.

Obviously, it needs to be raked out...
