YT Industried Decoy Core3 Live Uncaged

YT has restructured its Decoy range to fit within its new Core offerings of mountain bikes.

The change will apply to both the original Decoy (now called the Decoy MX) and the shorter travel Decoy 29. Along with these changes come some spec tweaks too including the introduction of Shimano's EP8 motor.

bigquotesThe Decoy is such a fun mountain bike. It will conquer any climb and let you collect air miles with plenty of steeze on your way back down the mountain. The MX version is directed at gravity mountain bikers who do not shy away from sending trail features, while the Decoy 29 offer the right balance of speed and climbing capability. Thanks to the EP8 motor our E-MTB is even more powerful and just waiting to take big hitters and explorers on an adventure.Markus Flossmann

Each bike will now be available in 3 specs - Core 4, Core 3 and Core 2. The details of each build are below:

YT Decoy MX / 29 Core 4

The Decoy 4 is made from a higher modulus carbon fibre than the rest of the Decoy range and it's the only full carbon fibre frame of the range for a lighter weight (about 1.2kg in size small). Fox provides the suspension with 38 Float Factory E-Bike+ fork and Float X2 Factory on the MX and 36 Float Factory E-Bike+ fork and Float DPS Factory on the 29.

A Shimano XT drivetrain transfers the power from the Shimano EP8 motor while Sram Code brakes slow everything down again. Other spec highlights include Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy E-MTB I9 1/1 wheels.

YT Decoy MX / 29 Core 3

The Core 3 and Core 2 models both share the same HX carbon front triangle and aluminium rear triangle but the main difference between the two bikes comes in the specs. The Decoy MX Core 3 features the Fox 38 Performance Elite E-Bike+ fork paired with the Fox Float X Performance Elite rear shock, whereas the all-mountain orientated Decoy 29 Core 3 sports a Fox 36 Performance Elite E-Bike+ fork and Dox Float DPS Performance Elite rear shock.

It's a mix of Shimano and SRAM again in the groupset with an SLX drivetrain and SRAM Code R brakes. The wheels are Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy E-MTB.

YT Decoy MX / 29 Core 2

The entry-level Decoy bikes feature the same carbon front triangle and aluminium rear triangle of the Decoy 3 but this time it's RockShox for the suspension with the MX version toting the Zeb R fork and the Super Deluxe Select rear shock while the Decoy 29 relies on a Yari RC and Deluxe Select. Both bikes feature a Shimano Deore drivetrain with Code R brakes and the same Crankbrothers Synthesis Alloy E-MTB wheels as the 3.

YT Decoys can be pre-ordered now with a 10% deposit.

Still has the 540 battery. That's a disappointment considering most EP8 bikes are coming with 630's now. I see no real benefit to replacing my 2019 duck for this one at this point. The E8000 is plenty good, the frame is identical, everything else is cosmetic and parts you can change.
Also why use the Code brakes when you went with Shimano drivetrain? At this point if I ever trade up it will likely be for a Commencal Meta Power.

My 540watt battery has been totally adequate on my 2019 decoy. I ride in only boost and climb majority super steep rocky jank in the desert doing 1-3 hour rides. The 540 is a good mix of usable range and lightness. I’m glad they stuck with it.
  • 7 0
 @PHX77: It's not bad, but I'd prefer a 630. I ended up buying a spare 540 for certain rides.

@carters75: How much was that $$$
  • 1 0
 @chupicocconut: $699 from their website

700W battery coming soon...said YT 3 years ago...
  • 2 0
The 630 is a significant volume increase compared to the 504 (at least in the externally mounted versions, I am not sure about the internal versions but I would expect the same to be true) changing to the 630 would likely require new front triangle tooling.

@carters75 Because Code breaks are simply better than Shimanos with their wandering bite point. Same could be said about shifting performance where Shimano takes the lead with Hyperglide+. I agree with you on the battery critic but the choice of components is spot on.
  • 2 0
@carters75: fair enough. I think we can both agree that a welcome upgrade would be a specialized/smartphone style “% of charge remaining” vs “number of bars”. I rarely run out my battery, but I have gone from two bars to completely dead in about 4 rotations of my cranks a couple of times. Haha. No skipping leg day for me that day

Thats what I did... Sold my decoy cf pro for a meta power Öhlins edition.... no mistake, same price better bike...

 Commencal is aluminum frame though
  • 1 0
@henrymayday: Heavens forbid that someone use a slightly more rigid and heavy material on a full suspension e-bike. That would make a huge difference in ride quality.
  • 1 0
@secretlynotarobot: well noted. Maybe take a look at commencal on next ebike

can I pre-warranty claim my YT so I can get in line early for replacement parts?

Just buy 2, think smarter not harder

Get a bike not a moped, more riding, less warranty issues ;-)
  • 2 0
Is there a ebike manufacturer that is known to have a low number of warranty issues? Seems like everyone I know has had some sort of motor/battery warranty issue. Some are resolved quickly, some take a long time. Issues don't seem to be specific to brands. And I'm talking about reputable mountain bike ebikes. Very curious, as reliability will be one of the major hurdles, if I ever pull the trigger on one.
  • 9 0
@JDFF: I have nearly 4000 miles on my '19 Decoy. I haven't had 1 warranty issue to date knock on wood. Both the motor and frame have been bulletproof so far and I ride it hard.
Do expect to go through a lot of cassettes and chains with an ebike though.
  • 7 0
Why? I own a Decoy that has been absolutely thrashed. I ride janky tech and big drops in really rocky conditions. Over 3000 miles and running amazing. I've also owned a Capra and have a current gen Jeffsy and they are really well built. The stories you hear about parts being destroyed are part of the part decisions (e13, etc.). I'd buy another YT in a heartbeat.
  • 1 0
@carters75: interesting. What kind of tracks are you riding/climbing/descending?
  • 2 5
@carters75: your profile says you are in Arkansas. With all due respect, I'm sure you have great trails to ride, but I'm guessing your vertical is pretty low and therefore nor too demanding on your motor. For example, a normal ride for me involves 3,000' to 5,000' vert on a normal pedal bike. If I had an ebike I would likely be putting 10,000' vert in per ride. Not Arkansas numbers as far as I know??? But maybe you are riding somewhere else?
  • 2 1
@JDFF: 3000' of elevation is a typical ride for me. This is my local trail system. It's 10 minutes from my house. It's pretty steep and has some nasty grades. It's no 10,000 feet but it's still a fun spot to ride.
  • 1 0
@carters75: I've definitely been impressed by trail videos I have seen from that area. Looks fun!
  • 4 0
@JDFF: I don't think any ebike will get 10k feet on one battery? I have a commencal meta power sx and it's been very reliable. I also have 2 friends with Decoy's and they haven't had any motor, battery or frame issues in more than a year.

With my commencal (500w battery) I can get 3-4k in trail mode, and 5k or a bit more in eco.
  • 2 0
@JDFF: Good luck doing a 10,000' ride on an ebike. It would take 2 batteries in eco the entire time and even then if they were both 504 batteries I don't think you could do 10K unless you weigh 140 lbs.
  • 3 0
@ryan83: same here. I try to kick the crap out of mine in 120 degree desert heat and jagged rocks for 2k miles and my 2019 Decoy has been solid. Love that thing
  • 1 0
@tsn73: that's why I don't ride one now. But maybe in the future.
  • 1 0
@JDFF: if your looking for 10 000' go for the New Norco with the 900wh battery without the range extender which add 360wh more!(that's what i'm doing). Should be release very soon from what I heard.
  • 2 1
Had issues with motor not turning on etc, YT boys replaced motor, battery and wiring harness no questions asked. Had my bike back within a few days.
  • 1 1
@Asamson25: not looking for an ebike yet. But when they go 10,000' reliably, my interest will be perked. Will probably be interested as I enter my retirement years.

As is the PB comments section especially regarding controversial e-MTBs.

@extratalldirtrider: yup, i just grab some popcorn and enjoy
  • 5 0
Well at least I didn't have to sit thru another 30min marketing movie, just to find out the only new and improved thing on the Decoy was the Core spec scale and the price:/
  • 4 0
If I was in the market for an e-bike, this would be it. YT still smashing it, great value, well thought out spec & most of all...looks a great big bag of fun to ride!!
  • 2 0
Wow! These are the most helpful comments made in response to an Ebike article I've ever seen here. I don't have an E bike but I am curious about people's experiences with them. Thank you!
  • 3 0
E bike are the future and Specialized dominates the competition. Nobody else is even close.
  • 3 1
Still waiting for the tues I ordered in May. Atleast now they only take deposits. For the May order they have all my money - I should get interest if they hold it longer.
  • 7 0
Ya know it's still May, right? And most bike companies are back-ordered due to supply issues. Either frames, parts, etc. This isn't a YT specific issue.
  • 1 0
 wait, May of 2020??
  • 1 0
 Isn’t it still May????
  • 1 0
 @unrooted: Sorry I meant April.
  • 2 0
@JJDesign: This isn't due supply issue. They let me place the order when the bike was still on the boat and now they are saying it is stuck in customs at port of LA.
  • 2 0
@JJDesign: None of this would have been a problem if they had just let me know it was a pre-order. Instead they took all my money as if they had the bike in their possession.
  • 1 1
@Kmccann137: You literally described a supply issue. The ports have slowed down, which has interrupted supply.
  • 3 0
@Patrick9-32: sort of my point was that the only supply issue I care about is the couple grand missing from my wallet when I could have done something else with it.
  • 2 1
@Kmccann137: honestly less than 6 months is actually quite fast in this market. I ordered a bike frame and parts back in early March and I'm still waiting on one of the parts to finally put it together (Hayes Dominion brakes)
  • 1 0
@Kmccann137: 100% agree with you. They shouldn't have taken your order and especially your money when they had zero idea when they'd have the bike in their hands. They essentially took an interest-free loan from you and that money is now working for them instead of you while you don't have the goods you paid for.

In short: f*ck that.

I genuinely wanted to buy a new bike this year but now I'd rather overpay my mortgage and start the bike fund again for next year or whenever things are normal. No bike company will see a penny from me until I'm convinced I'll see the bike within a couple of weeks tops. I'm not here to give away free money.

@onemind123: Commencal destroyed them better than I could, and will dominate them again in race results this year.

YT spends their money on faux macho bad ads and famous actors. Commencal spends theirs on racing development and racers.

But YT is still the most Trump/ Nazi imagery company in bicycling history, if anybody disagrees provide the evidence as I did in my blog. Also the most mysogynist advertising in the bike industry, as I exposed. You can downvote me but you can't refute those facts.
  • 6 1
@DoubleCrownAddict: i heard if you play the latest yt video production backwards it says "dblecrownaddict likes to sniff glue and lick frozen metal posts" is this true!?!?
  • 4 1
Not a huge fan of E-Bikes, but I can say The YT Decoy is by far the best and most sleek looking of E-Bikes.
  • 2 0
Wish they’d have done some frame updates, other than the reverse mullet thing. And their 29” models have crap rear shocks. Dang it
  • 8 7
Is it still a 500wh battery? If so, your report card says "YT has tried but has failed to grasp the key requirements. Likes to be the class clown, C-"
  • 4 3
Here is all you need to know: comes with the same 540Wh proprietary YT battery and it Ships late November 21 if you're lucky. Good luck with that not for me.
  • 2 1
Too small of a battery... again. 900wh batteries will be out soon in other bikes.

Kinda pissed they didn't make a shitty movie for this one too... smh

I think it's saying you can put 10% down to reserve one. If there is a 10% discount code, please let me know!

More e-mtb production - more battery production, more factoryes, more battery waste, more pollution, less woods.!
