I thought they where joking when they said they were flipping haha all the nitro guys threw down so cool to see them in person i felt like one of the groms fallowing semunk around
"If he crashes a backflip off a 50 foot jump it's a slide out, if I crash a 40 foot it's a broken neck."
Ha, at the suggestion that Pastrana is lucky when it comes to injuries. I think you need to read his Wiki page and read his list of injuries. He has broken everything at some stage.
I know... he made, what the rest of us would consider a major f*ck up, look simple to land. But then again, he has a crap load of experience landing (or not) the flips.
@steve-815 travis has been racing mx since he's a little child, so no he has not been a dual slalom champ before he got into motocross. you should watch '199 lives', it's a sick documentary about his life.
@moddis "Pastrana was born in Maryland in 1983, and by age four he was riding a Honda one-speed. Although he excelled in mountain biking (placing first in dual slalom at U.S. Junior Nationals) and his studies (graduating high school three years early), the youngster found his calling in motocross, winning five Loretta Lynn National Amateur crowns beginning in 1992, plus a deuce of Canadian titles for good measure."
Thats from www.travispastrana.com/m/travis.php so i'm pretty sure it's right. I'll admit I got the world and national mixed, it was ages since i read it, but my point stands he's pretty damn good without an engine
The pros are really good at slamming. That sounds funny but it is true. They know how to crash and not get hurt as much. From the video, you can see him know that he is under rotating, spot the the ground, and then act accordingly. Cat-like reflexes.
Probably not, it's pretty unreasonable to expect someone who has no time spent practicing backflips to be able to pull one off. I'm sure you would love to show us your backflips and how talented you are at them though.
I think pretty much everyone is aware and in agreement: Travis Pastrana is a fantastic athlete who can do things that seem impossible. Even when the dude crashes, he still does it better than most everyone out there.
Santi, I think the Miami heat is getting to you. Nobody is criticizing Pastrana or implying he sucks, I'm making light of the fact that he messed up on something that should be relatively routine for him. I would laugh if Tiger Woods whiffed on the tee box or if an NBA basketball player missed a dunk - it's FUNNY
MTBlegend- it's a shame you have to explain yourself. Anyone with half a brain would know you were kidding. Pastrana has thrown down so much crap on a MTB years/decades ahead of the time simply to train to do it on a dirtbike. I cannot believe that after all the abuse he's taken, he's still doing random insane crap like this. There are no words for it.
Backflips are on of the easier tricks all it is, is commitment a super man on a scale of one to ten lets say it's a ten a backflip on that skill would be a 4... and trust me I know
yea no doubt! just never head his name in the MTB world. Hes f*cking next level that dude.. Never seen someone with so much drive/ not giving a f*ckness. Keep that grind Travs!!
his crash is basically...perfect! I mean, it feels like there's not even a big impact, he kept sliding all the way down like a pinguin on his Iceberg ^^
Yeah, either flatten out or tuck and roll. But, most of the time you can't do either one or there are way to many hard pointy things in the way. If you can, try and land on someone, nice and soft.
That just shows how good Pastarana is. The fact that he can determine when it is time to tuck and roll and when it is time to flatten out. When ever I'm going down its always tuck and roll.
Travis Pastrana rides DH bikes at Whistler? Cool! Love crossovers from other sports or disciplines of the same sport. Needs to be an action sports super champion event for the best all rounder. Travis might win that if you include rally and fmx etc.
Everyone can go crazy and do big tricks, that doesn't take skills. REAL skills lie in how someone can safe himself when something goes wrong. Travis' crash was so insanely smooth, like a kid sliding down a slide for fun. THAT is the true meaning of having great skills.
So many riders nowadays pull the awesomest tricks but are injured 90% of the time. No matter how sick their tricks are, in my eyes those are not skilled riders. It's easy to do stuff when it goes well. The hard part that really takes skill is to safe your ass when it doesn't, so you don't get injured.
Since Pinkbike's Edit-button fails to function... ...the moral of my story is that often people confuse having balls of steel with being actually skilled.
This video perfectly shows the skills of Travis, it even shows his skills much better than if he would have actually landed it.
those wheels were still running true after that crash. if the wheels of your rental aren't at least wobbly at the end of the day you haven't ridden hard enough (imo)
@breakjnky your a f*cking idiot, travis put a guy in a wheel chair became depress, started nitro circus, and doing nitro circus live... oh when he put that guy in a wheel cahir he was drunk driving. so he isnt clean cut but the guy has to live lots of shit ... i think hes a great role model just for the fact hes calm and collective... a very generous man as well... watch his 199 lives and tell me hes a clean cut role model...
Have you seen how smooth his crash was? Saving your ass this smoothly in a terrible situation like this takes real skills. 99% of the riders would have ended up being (badly) injured after this, but since Travis has real skills he made it look like it was actually fun to do.
Doing a backflip only requires balls. Bailing a backflip this smoothly is where the true skills are.
Travis is a legend! On any type of machine he rides.
I think its cool to see Pastrana trying out crankworx, he is definitely a crowd pleaser! Brendanbiking however was logged in to my account and thought he would share his views on the subject, soon everybody go rip on Brendanbiking!

One thing is sure, Travis is a true legend!
Pastrana is a challenger, he will try to be the best at everything. True admiration for his persistence
