Dec 17, 2023Trek Rail 9.8 XT - Large - Carbon emtb
$3900 USDReady to shred tacky winter/spring trails may I present the 2021 Trek Rail 9.8 XT in Large (Carbon).
This bike has been well ridden and well loved. It DOES have many cosmetic blemishes from many trail sessions. It DOES NOT have any issues or structural defects and rides clean. The core of the bike, the motor and battery, ride as new still (and this battery is not one of the noisy batteries found on some Trek Rails). All the components are in good working order, including the very plush suspension with the amazing Zeb fork.
This bike has always received more maintenance than scheduled as I am an amateur mechanic and my friend owns Solstice Bike shop. She has recently received a full tune-up (including brake bleed and fork lowers service) and is running great. In the last 6 months the bike has received new wheels, new cranks, new chain, new rotors, new pads ,and a new xt derailleur as well. She rides basically like she did when I took her home from the shop.
The Trek Rail is still a very "relevant" bike. This was one of the first bikes to receive the Bosch CX Gen 4 systems which holds its own against the newest versions of other motors/batteries. On the uphill the Rail has more torque than bikes equipped with other systems. And on the downhill the very plush suspension and geometry of this bike combined with 29" wheels make it extremely fast. It's a great example of a "point and shoot" emtb ready to gobble up the mountain.
Please no low-balls, trades, fakes, scams, flakes, or other non-serious contact.
I would prefer local pickup as emtb's are heavy and bulky and I have never shipped one before. If you would like to buy the bike and have it shipped, I will make that happen, but buyer pays shipping and handling.
Per Trek: "Rail 9.8 is a long-travel carbon electric mountain bike that rips just as hard as our beefiest trail rigs and powers you right back up the mountain. It features awesome upgrades to the suspension, drivetrain, and brakes for exceptional performance on the gnarliest runs."
There were lots of great reviews of this bike which won numerous "best of the year" award. I particularly like this review: https://www.mtbr.com/threads/trek-rail-review-5-reasons-why-it-may-be-the-best-e-mtb-for-you.1178471/

Review: Trek's 2023 Fuel EX-e Is Light & Nearly Completely Silent
I am puzzled why so many e-bike haters bother reading these articles or commenting. Do you think that all of us who are blasting 7000 vertical feed of downhill on squichy long travel ebikes in during an afternoon and will suddently ditch them and only ride our amish bikes based on their comments? Do they think that they can sway a whole industry just by being cranky and proclaming how amazing they are? Good luck with that.

Review: Trek's 2023 Fuel EX-e Is Light & Nearly Completely Silent
Glad to see these categories evolving and Trek continuing to help define with quality offerings. I have a first gen Rail myself.
What I really would like to see is a Slash EX-e with it's long travel combined with this type of drivetrain (and weight). I also want to be able to buy an additional "half - battery" with half the Ah and half the weight for shorter rides, or to take as a spare for extra long rides.

The Coastal Crew: Skeptical - Video
What is the difference between an ebike and some of the soon to be production e-motos? Pedals? What's to prevent someone from slapping on some useless pedals on an e-moto capable of going 100mph and calling it an ebike? Ebikes are going to be the death of trail access for sure.
