Details Announced for the 2020 Pisgah Stage Race

PRESS RELEASE: Pisgah Stage Race

The 2020 Pisgah Stage Race returns this spring for the 12th annual event and takes place April 13th through April 18th. All five stages are located in the Pisgah National Forest and are readily accessible from the town of Brevard, North Carolina in the southeastern United States. The combined stages have over 140 miles of riding and 20,000+ ft of elevation gain. The routes also boast having a composition of 76% single-track, 19% dirt roads, and only 5% asphalt. Also, each of the five stages features a chip-timed enduro segment.

More racing categories for 2020
An expanded range of racing categories offers everyone an opportunity to trade paint for a podium with opponents that they are closely matched with. For 2020 additional categories have been added including Grand Master Women 50+, Duo Men 80+ and Duo Men 100+. These additions bring the total available race category count to 15 ensuring close competition among age brackets for men and women as well as 5 different categories for duo teams. Age brackets for men and women include Open, Veteran 30-39, Master 40-49, Grand Master 50-59, and even Senior Men 60+. There have been fast racers in all these age groups before, and for 2020 the competition is going to be great!


Trail improvements ready for 2020
Several iconic Pisgah trails have received much-needed attention and countless hours of work. The section of Black Mountain that leads into Avery Creek, and Avery Creek itself, have been transformed into absolute rippers. Before this work, much of these trail sections were extremely eroded, super chunky, rutted and blown out. The reworked portions of Black Mountain and Avery Creek offer much-improved flow and awesome new jump lines if you choose them. These trail sections still offer plenty of classic Pisgah gnar, but now offer incredible reworked lines and as much boosting as you want to choose.


The iconic Bennett Gap trail also got some trail love on the lower section which really improved water shedding and sustainability. An added bonus of Bennett Gap’s improved lower section is how it enables a rider to charge down it faster than ever before. All three of these trails are part of Stage 3 which is the Queen stage of the Pisgah Stage Race. Even accomplished Pisgah veterans will be stoked with the awesome route.

Stage 2 - Squirrel Gap and Black Mountain offer two of the most revered Pisgah rides
Stage 3 - Avery Creek and Bennett Gap are all the rage in Pisgah
Stage 4 - Laurel Mountain and Pilot Rock showcase the beauty and beast of the Appalachian Mountains
Stage 5 - Butter Gap and Bracken Mountain Preserve offer a fun mix of old school and flow
