An afternoon at MOMBAT

MOMBAT (Museum of Mountain Bike Art & Technology) at First Flight Bikes is a gear head's mecca that I have been meaning to visit ever since I started travelling to Pisgah to ride. I've read about some of the collection of historic mountain bikes at the MOMBAT bike museum for years now, and a while back I decided to make a special side trip on my way to Pisgah to check it out. I've always meant to post my favorite photos of this excellent destination ever since. I could have spent an entire day at First Flight Bikes and in the MOMBAT museum. Both were clearly crafted and curated with much love and dedication. The following photos recall that afternoon I spent mesmerized in the most interesting bike museum I've visited, and the warm welcome and hospitality of the man I met there.

Tragically, MOMBAT creator and owner Jeff Archer recently lost his life when hit by a car while he was crossing the street. The driver has been charged with DWI. My deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, and the community he was a special part of.

I'm glad I was able to meet Jeff during my visit to his wonderful museum and shop. He was friendly and patient as I asked questions and took this photo of him. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and I am sorry for their loss.

Visit MOMBAT in person or online and experience the magic that Jeff created.
