“What's better than a day on my Diamondback DB8 downhill bike?” says Porter. “Getting to the top in a Tonka truck! My good friend Todd Romano happens to be a professional off road truck racer, and also lives in the Park City area. He was planning to be in Moab for some PR and testing in the truck, and we got together for a day of shredding. After strapping my bike down between his spare tires and making sure not to smash his radiator, we were off."

“It's honestly hard to describe how awesome it is to ride in a truck like this, you can feel the sound when the engine roars, and the suspension enables you to smash into anything at full speed. All I can say is if you have a chance to ride in one, do anything to make it happen!

“Once we were at the top, it was almost a letdown to pull my bike off and pedal away. I was wondering if riding my bike could come even close to the rush of blasting jumps in a trophy truck! However I quickly remembered how much fun bikes are, and appreciate the simplicity of a human powered machine as well.

“Growing up a big fan of the mountain bike world, I remember dreaming about the Chainsmoke 2 trophy truck segment and wishing I could be a part of something like that. Somehow, the dream came true and I got to live that out in real life! This was hands down one of my most fun days of the year, and I look forward to making more dreams a reality!”

 MAAAAAAAD
  • + 2
Does anyone know what SCORE class this truck is? Is this the full blown open trophy truck class or something smaller?
  • + 2
I gonna guess its a class 1 or unlimited with the engine and travel it has. the Class 2's require a "stock sealed V8" as per SCORE rules.
  • + 3
Class 1's are open wheeled. Just sayin.
  • + 9
With a shuttle truck like that... more fighting about who will not drive than who will.
  • + 3
you mean who will drive ?
  • + 1
There would be a lot of DB8ing about that.
  • + 9
Chainsmoke 2? This still sweet though!!
  • + 1
I was gonna say that. Love the intro.
  • + 8
You can't beat Chainsmoke 2, pal Smile

  • + 5
it fits what, 2 people, thats cool if you have 1 friend
  • + 33
And Im assuming if you own a Baja truck you're going to have more than one friend.
  • + 4
@markunit10 fair point but i still want one Smile
  • + 8
your mates can ride in the truck bed, yeah? Smile
  • + 8
I have no friends, no worries... the cooler full of beer will fit in that seat nicely!
  • + 3
Ford Raptor comes in crew cab which will carry 4 passengers. I've got a friend with a Roush edition Raptor. 590hp supercharged 6.2L with 12" fox suspension on 35s. It eats logging roads for breakfast. Unfortunately he doesn't mountain bike..
  • + 11
Lol logging roads for breakfast = hard core now? Someone clearly does not know what off road is
  • + 2
A blown out skid road straight up a hill seems hard core. Who's defining logging road?
  • + 6
@ justridep3: ford raptors cannot be compared to race prepped trophy trucks... Go on youtube and look up all the dumb asses that jump their raptors because they think they bought a racing machine and not an over-glorified f150 with a suspension lift and cost them 50-60 grand... Ill keep my diesel and putz up the roads like every other shmuck out there. At least I wont be filling up my tank between laps!
  • + 1
@vps13 I get about 7mpg in "off-road mode", doing 70-80mph on logging/fire roads. With a 26 gallon tank the fun doesn't last too long before I'm back to the pump. I doesn't jump worth a damn and is too heavy to properly hoon. The bed is also too short for tying down a mountain bike (5.5" long). All that said its bunches of fun and has saved my unskilled-driver ass a number of times. Next truck might be a diesel though.
  • + 2
@makripper I never said anything about hardcore. It is a lot of fun though. And I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion that I "clearly" don't know what offroad is from a 2 line comment. I think I'm safe to say that you "clearly" don't know me.

And @VPS13 I wasn't trying to compare it to a race prepped trophy truck. Just saying if you'd like a similar experience (As in the closest I imagine I'll ever get to riding in a trophy truck) with an option for more than 1 passenger (That's what the original comment I was replying to was about), the crew cab raptor is a decent option. I'm in the same boat as you, I choose to putt around the backroads at not much more than an idle when it comes to my own truck. My F150 with a 4.6 will shuttle laps for days before I need to head back for fuel. However when he offers to take me for a joyride in the Raptor jumping bridges at 140+km/h, I say yes with a rather large grin on my face.

I wish they made trophy trucks with IRS and AWD or put that much power into Rally raid 4WDs. I still think the old open class Dakar Rally cars from the late 80's piss on all this shit.
  • + 1
 brenthelindustries.com/race-cars/trophy-truck

SHUT UP SHUT UP!!! it fits 4, has Mercedes benz quality interior and BHP/Torque so high you can't even count. plus it has incredible body work, like DAMN THAT TIG WELDING THOUGH! and its all top quality. super safe too. and about that 26 gallon tank, its cute... but i mean, 85 gallons is better.

its the dream.
  • + 2
I just watched a dozen videos of bros jumping Ford Raptors and wrecking their shit
  • + 3
fark yeah, new event! baja-dh...i really dont know how it'd work but id sure like to try it!
  • + 2
A team consists of a rider and a driver. Starting from the bottom they have to complete X amount of laps. Lets say 3. Fastest team to get those 3 laps done wins! Or you could do it like 1 lap down like whistler mountain and then the second lap down Blackcomb and everyone gets to see the trophy trucks rip through the village to get to the next mountain. Would be so sick
  • + 4
Now THAT is how a DH bike rides uphill Smile
  • + 3
I would like to watch this vehicle in deep snow.
  • + 1
Anybody know what trail that is in Moab? I have a moab trail guide book, but am too lazy to get up and figure it out for myself.
  • + 2
 Dave's Trail.
  • + 1
The ONLY time the ride up is as fun as the ride down! I've ridden that trial, it was a lot of fun, but we had to push up it; not so fun.
  • + 1
that was the chili hills DH above Moab, but that wasnt the road up to the top.. looks like maybe up towards potash. Good edit though
  • + 3
GET A SKID PLATE AND EXHAUST AND EVERYONE THINKS YER TRUCK'S BUILT
  • + 2
The three best things in life (in my opinion) are DH bikes, Trophy Trucks and Off shore power boats.
  • + 1
 Nicely done.
Except you can't shuttle that trail on dirt! The shuttling drive is 15mikes away from the trail he rides Smile
It s my dream anyway!

Great video and filmed right in my backyard! I was just up there yesterday.

I just built one from a Sport Trac so can carry 5, certainly not as extreme but it is street legal and great for road trips too. It's a blast up the Moose road!

Street legal prerunners don't cost a lot of money I got mine for 8000.. And is just as good as that one..
  • + 5
Haha it's funny because you actually believe that.
  • + 1
Well mine is a toyota linked with sway away suspension in the rear custom long travel kit in the front caged front to back five point harness seats racing transmission with fuel cell two spare tires and built in gps all I have to do to make it just like that one is to install a race engine and some minor tweaks but my truck would not be street legal anymore.. I can do 100mph without a problem on the desert and jump anything I want and I got all of this for 8000 so yeah look it up before you talk.. And as far a shuttle a vehicle I'd rather use my friends truck since all the crew fits there.. Prerunners are amazing and I love mine but they suck at doing anything else..
  • + 2
No idea what most of this is about but i'm keen to see what 8k gets you in the off road truck word. Feel free to pm me
  • + 3
8k will you get you a beat to shit tacoma with "long travel" suspension. I can guarantee if your truck has all you said it does it did not cost 8k, and if it does it's beat as I said. A custom long travel kit costs 5k at the least and that's before shocks. If it's a fully caged rear that's another couple grand. And unless your cycling 30+ in the rear I highly doubt you are hitting 100mph in the whoops.
  • + 2
I agree with Arnold. Back when I was looking at upgrading my little S-10 I was looking at 2k just for the front end suspension, labor would have been slightly cheaper as I would be doing it with friends but if I wanted something even remotely close to a good prerunner, I would have spent at least 15 grand and it would still it would be slow as F but good enough for me.
  • + 1
Ya exactly, and for 8 grand you could get something used that's not as flashy or fast but you could have fun with it. But you are definitely not going to be performing anywhere near that thing.
  • + 1
That's a meh build and nowhere near as good as the TT on display.
