by that I mean really badass, but in a last decade's sorta way....

Sam Hill taking the Nationals seriously is like an F1 driver taking NASCAR seriously.
  • 12 7
if you read/watch some interviews you realize that he wants the top spot.
  • 62 2
If you read the news paper article hes just getting back into the swing of racing. Everyone should just stop judging him and let his riding speak for itself when the WC's come around.
  • 93 2
I don't think Sam is doing poorly, Troy is just raising the bar
  • 15 5
^ agreeeeeed! finely someone with some sense!
  • 14 3
Its obviously that Hill treat Nationals as a warm up before WC season, he wont take risk too much cuz he cant & wont miss another season because of injury.
  • 13 1
Exactly. The bar rise is now 30mm...
  • 5 7
He'll be back on top, come WC Big Grin !!

This is just another example of how the public loves to build a person up and then tear him down again when a new and exciting person comes along. Everybody needs to settle down a little and see this for what it is. Sam's first real race back after nearly 2 seasons off. And he came in a close second behind a fresh, young, hungry, healthy WC prospect in Troy B. For shit's sake give Hill some credit. The juniors are fast and fearless and SHill has had to overcome a lot of nagging injuries. 27 is not old and it doesn't mean he is washed up. LOOK at it this way..Given his health and momentem carried from the World Chmpionships,Troy was the clear favorite, and he only beat an aging rusty SH by 1.8 secs. One thing for sure is that this season is gonna be incredible if the big dogs can stay healthy. Don't forget that they are teammates and Sam has been more or less his mentor for the last year and half along with B-dog.

Look at it this way, the tracks are flat campared to the majoritory or WC tracks (forget about PMB). In the canberra WCs and Worlds of 08 and 09, Sam, in top form, didnt even podium, a good few seconds back to people who won (using clips too). A super-healthy 19/20yo Troy heats him by just 2 seconds using clips on a pdedally track. Sam will probably raise his game after PMB this year when we get to Val Di Sol. I think the title hunt will be between Gwinny/Troy/Sam/Gee/Minnaar.

You forgot the Brits most important prospect. HART!!!
  • 4 1
woow to HART!! ^^ im looking forwade to this season a load of talented riders from every corner of the planet (i dont get that saying the earth doesnt have corners...?)
  • 12 1
you're right....thankfully the world is bermed:-)

Lots of good riders to look forward to next year in addition to those mentioned. What about Brook Macdonald, Brendawg is looking fitter and fitter and hopefully will be able to mount a serious challenge. Never write off Marc Beaumont, I think GT may be a good place for him this year. The spotlight will be off him and on the Athertons, a little less pressure at GT may do him the world of good.
There are a number of riders who are able to up their game on the day, and somebody may come from relative obscurity and surprise everybody (remember Gwin?). Only time will tell.

I would like Brendon Fairclough to win a WC. He said so himself, he doesn't just want to be known for pulling a whip here and there. Nonetheless, he's a sick rider!
  • 2 0
very impressed with Troy - good attitude and seems older than his years. 2012 should be an awesome year for him whether he wins World Cups or not.
  • 2 4
every race should be taken seriously, if your not taking it seriously then whats the point in racing in the first place? if i race, i race to win.
  • 2 1
correct , hill will be back
  • 2 1
Reading the title i wondered which Sam they were talking about, i am proud of you Troy!
  • 30 1
Even when Sam Hill was winning world cups early on in his career by ridiculous margins he wasn't winning many national rounds, just shows that he isn't that suited to the flatter tracks in the Australian national rounds compared to that of the WC. I'm not saying that Troy isn't going to do as well if not better than Sam come the WC, but i think Sams nationals results are no reason to right him off for the following season.

Gwin is a beast but he needs to watch out for Troy
  • 27 5
It's Danny Hart's turn this year.
  • 3 1
Danny surely on fire ....... Now things become exciting ,, hope nothing goes wrong with broadcas!
  • 10 1
Pretty much want to see , how boXXer guys take on Fox40
  • 4 7
So. Syndicate and CG and? Switching from RS to FOX. why? No factory rock-shox at wc anymore?
  • 2 1
Apart from monster energy specialised.....and devinci......and giant.
  • 9 2
 steve smith turn.
  • 2 4
"how can he sit down with balls so big"
  • 15 4
Going to be a flawless season for Troy?
  • 2 0
No doubt the kid's quick, however, he will meet one problem this year. Danny Hart is looking for the win, and he'll pull out all the stops to get it! Smile
  • 9 1
Wanted to take a picture of Tracey Hannah ... but she was too damn fast Smile
  • 5 0
This series are just a warm up for Sam, he cant miss a full season by an injury again.
  • 2 0
I have always said this kid would go a long way and i'm the first to admit i know very little about DH but i knew he would do well he is going to be the one to look out for this year you wait, but that said it's the australian nationals sam won't be smashing it out yet it's early in the season. but as always just my opinion. Smile

I was there and I loved it disapointing that there were a few riders that stacked or had flats but all the riders had heaps of skills
  • 3 0
Hot and dusty, just the way we like it in Canberra. One dude in practice went OTB on the last jump landing on his head. Got up and all he could repeatedly say was "what the f@#$ just happened?".
  • 7 0
 that sir, is a concussion
  • 1 0
Nah in Canberra nobody gets concussion the trails are just so sick that no matter what happens people will always be left saying what the F@#$ just happened
  • 2 1
Has anyone not noticed that Sam is closing the gap nicely? He's coming into form just at the right time. Troy will be starting the uci knowing that anything less than 3rd place will be a disappointment, he really has his tail up.
  • 2 2
You do realise this is Troy's first year as a senior... He would put half a minute into Sam if he was the same age. The kid is on another level.
  • 4 1
Raises a good question about at what age does a DH racer peak. Physically a 27 year old man can be significantly stronger than a 19 year old, but whether that means a faster racer is unclear as we see some very slight builds go fast (troy, hart etc). Also it seems that most men undergo a change in their risk assessment sometime between these ages, which may be more significant.

Maybe the young riders really are the next level of riding technique, or perhaps we simply see their fearlessness reflected in the times.
  • 2 1
good coment but look at peaty still fast as hell and danny hart/troy brosnan equally if not quicker on tech and big courses ie fortbill n montstanne gwins what 24 /23 all youve got to admit bloody fast on two wheels , think its the riders personal peak n not as an age group but will be interestin to see how the times alter over a few seasons
  • 4 0
Hope Connor can carry his form into the World Cup season. The kid's damn fast.
  • 2 1
Troy has allways been a strong pedaller and these tracks suite him very well he will continue to dominate. Consistant Sam is non existant maybe hes learned from his mistakes and being conservative will be his tactic until he gets on the world cup where it all really matters.
  • 3 2
Funny comments here as usual. Big props to TLD's Troy and Sam, stoked for those boys to both be killing it. Sam has rarely done a full aussie series, so big accomplishment for him to be doing all this early season work for the fans and for himself. Sam has never slaughtered people at the aussie rounds, but then has gone on to destroy at the world cups, so all the Hill-aters can scratch. One thing is certain, they are both riding great, having fun, loving their bikes, gear and equip.
  • 2 1
Sam had a mechanical in this race a few spectators have commented on a forum over here saying they saw him free wheeling and trying to peddle but his mech was not playing ball, it apparently sorted its self out so managed to finish. Troy is on the money but I personally thing that Sam is saving himself and not wanted to go stupid and risk another injury as both his shoulders are damaged from those big off, by the second world cup he will be on the podium.
  • 1 0
Reading Troy's blog he even mentioned he was going all out, Rd two. I just hope he dosent get his bubble popped when Sam beats him come world cup. Especially if he is gauging his success with beating Sam in the national rounds.
  • 5 1
Way to go Troy! Hope to see him on top of a world cup podium this year.
  • 2 0
In all its gonna make the WC series in 2012 one of the most competitive seasons ever. Can easy see 20 different riders getting podiums this season. Overall i would not call
  • 1 0
I count at least 25 racers with podium potential; Gwin, GeeA, Minnar, Hart, Brosnan, SSmith, Brook MacDonald, Cam Cole, Lehikonen, Peaty, S Hill, Beaumont, Mick Hannah, BrenDawg, Kovarik, CG, Pascal, Spagnolo, Sam Blenky, justin Leov, Neethling, Strbel, Beer, Ropelato, Cathro, Thiron, Reid...

But no doubt Gwin will win the overall, he has no weakness.
  • 5 1
Is this the 3rd nationals round troy had won?
  • 3 0
 Yeap he's won round 1, 2 and 3
  • 2 1
He'll probably win champs in a few weeks, then round 4 after that...
  • 3 2
so at this moment in time it seems troy is the best rider in Australia.
  • 2 1
The best on the Australian tracks maybe, but the WC tracks are a world away (no pun intended) from the Aussie tracks.
  • 4 1
Or he's just trying to save himself for the WC's. Will find out when the 1st WC comes along.
  • 2 3
I think the real question is whether the other teams are getting worried? If Troy doesn't win the race Sam will. Specialized might dominate this year.
  • 3 0
I am pretty sure the World cup teams are not worried. TWR and Giant Racing to name 2. Do not let your excitement blur things. Most of the World's talent wasn't even at this event. The top 2 Aussie riders did exactly what they were expected to do. They came in 1st and second. Home field, ya know.
  • 1 0
Also can't wait to see what GT can achieve this year.
  • 2 0
think Troy has a few world cup podiums/champs/and world cup overalls to win before he is the big dog in that team. just sayin'...
  • 2 0
Sam is just letting Troy win and having some wins in his pocket before tearing everything apart in the coming WC Season!!! This is the real truth about it all!!
  • 2 2
sam has only just got back on the bike. give him time. he will bring himself back in. no time. WC will tell us all,
true that troy is a machine tho! fair play to the kid want to see how well he does in the WC! Smile
  • 4 1
Yeah Troy keeping it pinned like always!! Keep it up!
  • 4 1
Connor Fearon 3rd overall, yeah boy!
  • 3 0
Pretty sure Danny is on for the wc battle !
  • 1 0
They are both on the same team, 1 and 2, yeah Sam will want to be 1st, but all that matters is advertising, and at the moment they are doing a pretty damn good job of that.
  • 2 3

sam was fat coming into this season, he should have been in shape. Also, troy wants it more...
  • 6 4
I reckon Sam is not given'er yet.
  • 1 0
No one pointing out that the fastest junior would have podiumed in the mens category. Madness.
  • 1 0
yup, You are starting to see this more and more. Seems that young talent is being supported at younger ages. So long as you see the major corporate bike companies supporting Dh, it's a trend that will continue.
  • 2 0
You mean except the article itself?
  • 2 0
Well aye obviously the article, I meant everyone bleeting on about who is better, Sam Hill or Troy Brosnan. Every single time the results come out for the Australian National the same shite gets written. It's boring as fuck.
  • 1 0
Tracey is well above the womens pace, and not that far off the mens. I think she might have a killer season too.
  • 1 0
Ya, it's great to see Tracey back on the bike and killing it.
  • 1 0
Sam second fiddle to the kid? 'm sure he's pinning it and saying WTF Troy!!
  • 4 1
