With three World Cup wins this Fourcross season, Joost Wichman decided it was time for a well deserved break after his best season yet. Joost tells us all about this in a review of the first Bensink Speed & Style Jam Season Closer, fueled by Rockstar!
No stress, just fun in the 'backyard'!It's autumn again and the gravity season is coming to an end. All the main races and contests are behind us. So it's time to relax and ride with your friends. No stress, just fun.
That's why Desmond Tessemaker and I decided to organize a season closer. Professionals, riders for fun and a bunch of kids were invited to the first Speed & Style Jam, on October 4th, in 'the backyard' at Bensink BMX Gates. The weather was good, fortunately, because the day before it was raining hard during the Dutch Championships Four Cross.
Nice backyard don't you think?
What more do you want: the sun was shining, the music was nice and there was free Rockstar to drink. Riders and spectators from across the Netherlands came to Bensink, to close the season under relaxed circumstances. About 100 BMX and MTB-riders enjoyed the dirt jumps and the speedline Desmond and I built and shaped in the weeks before the event.
Many people showed up!

After a good warm-up, the big tricks were shown. Backflips, 720's, frontflips, you name it. I made some efforts to land a 360...but it's better I stick with racing. Desmond, Bart Mol, Roy Groenewegen, Jeremy Struik, Derio (winner of the Style Award) and loads of other riders made one big trick after another. Even Johannes Fischbach was impressed.
Frank 'the Tank' Heijne and I were battling to set the fastest time on the speedline. In the end Frank won, but it seemed he had bribed the time officials with a few euros just to get a hold of the prizes... For the kids there were prices as well, from Rockstar, SRAM, Giant, Adidas and Schwalbe.

Once the contests were over, we turned up the beats of the music and kept on riding. We even had to use the artificial lightning. At 1930PM we ate and drank something, before everyone headed home.
Master of the Bradwursts, I didn't get one!
At the end of the day we were all smashing guitars, no wonder
The first Bensink Speed & Style Jam Season Closer (fueled by Rockstar) was an awesome and successful event. Next year it will be back, only BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER! This was just a try out…
See you in 2010!
Cheers,
Joost
Thanx to: Bensink, Rockstar, SRAM, Adidas Eyewear, Schwalbe, Giant en Theissen!
Let me just say it was a great jam with loads of potential, that's why I'm already stoked on the idea of a next jam in 2010. Why? I'm hearing about another line with bigger jumps, even better prizes than this year and more riders from all over the Benelux but hopefully from all over Europe (come on you Germans and English buggers! Show your face in Holland! Game is on!)

See you soon!
