Press Release: Kids Ride Shotgun

Riding with little people is rad.

But if you’ve ever ridden with your little one upfront when it’s cold, you’ll realise they act as your very own windshield on the trail.

What’s more, because you’re providing an unlimited up-lift service for your little person, and they’re not pedalling themselves, there’s zero chance of them warming up during the ride.

But fear not – because today Kids Ride Shotgun have released their new pogies – designed to help mountain bike families shred the trails together, whatever the weather.

Inspired by a home-made oven-mitt glove that Kids Ride Shotgun team member Trev Worsey hacked together for his 3-year old son, the new pogies are the perfect digit warmer for riding shotgun during the colder months.

Oven mitt pogies, sweet as long as it doesn't rain

The new pogies are designed for kids 2-5 years (one size fits all), and are made from super durable 100% ripstop polyester, with 10,000mm waterproofing and 5000gm breathability ratings.

Once wrapped around your frozen solid Renthal Fat Bars (or your Shotgun Kids handlebars), they create a warm and dry, fleece-lined, micro-climate – and they’re suitable for use all the way down to -22°F / -30°C, thanks to their 3M Thinsulate filling.

With enough room for puffy jacket sleeves to fit inside, and no finger holes to try and get wiggly fingers into, the new Pogies are a great solution for those wanting to extend their family rides beyond the summer months.

Side note: The new pogies aren’t suitable for use outside of riding shotgun, because they don’t allow access to brake levers or shifters, unless you wanna use them like suicide bags and go brakes wide open down your local hill.

The Kids Ride Shotgun Pogies are now available from your local bike store, or directly from Kids Ride Shotgun, MSRP $55 USD

Perfect. I have no kid but I've found a trick to carry my baguette sandwich and my bottle of wine. Merci!

Where did you put it before? #DTC hahahhaha

 Also blunt.

Oh I can see these making a splash in the fatbike world. Nothing quite like showing your kid how to hate bikes before he's even big enough to ride his own...

the existence of these means the supply chain is fixed, right?
  • 3 0
 If only!

I am thinking of this for my teenager to make us closer. Father son bike rides on my Mega Nuke Jumper with the 600 mm reach. He thinks I am an idiot. This will help confirm it to him..............

Just dangle a cell phone in front of him. He will at least last , until the battery runs out
  • 1 0
@Fishoholics: Maybe they can make a cell phone mount along with the poogies? Mr. Fish - I like your thinking!
  • 1 0
@dldewar: like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey. But a cell phone to teens. My sons cell, is attached to him.

Now your personnel airbag is attached to the bars in the event of a crash or OTB. It even comes with a built-in sensor letting you know when to go to the hospital.
  • 15 3
If you’re putting yourself in a position to crash and/or go OTB with a kid onboard you’re doing it wrong. I’ve been using an upfront seat for around 4 years now with zero issues or even close calls, you just have to remember that you are riding for them instead of you

@mashrv1: You are overestimating the skill of the general public if you don't think that a person could be in a position to crash the second they get on a bike, regardless of trail difficulty.
  • 1 0
@juicebanger: and yet are there reports of these crashes and associated injuries happening?
  • 5 0
@mashrv1: I once got off my bike leaving my child on the seat while the bike tipped over. I can confirm 1 reported bruised bottom as a result.
  • 4 1
@mashrv1: when was the last time you reported a crash?

Also, have you watched Friday Fails?
  • 6 0
@juicebanger: Witnessed a trail bike pulling two kids in trailer. At end of trail rider went through the boulders that stop the 4x4s etc. Totally forgetting about the trailer. Bike stopped dead. Dad landed on the road holding groin. Trailer popped up over rocks and flipped. Kids totally fine and laughing. Dad-probably no more kids.

@juicebanger: if people were crippling children because of these seats it would be known about.

No idea what Friday Fails has to do with riding with kids on board
  • 4 0
@mashrv1: A fascinating stretch of language; I'm straining to find the part where I said people were crippling children because of a shotgun seat. You are free to think that a person cannot crash simply riding down a paved path, as you are also free to carry on thinking no one has crashed while having their child on board a shotgun seat without reporting it. Mostly, you are free to continue enjoying the world through the rose tint of your glasses.

Good day to you sir.
  • 2 1
@fabwizard: No way! I hope you reported it Wink
  • 1 1
@juicebanger: ah, so I was meant to understand that by commenting on an article about child seats, you were actually just talking about riding in general - gotcha. Enjoy your evening.
  • 1 0
@juicebanger: actually didn't have to. Don't know if I would though seems a bit extreme.

There was a bike race going on at the time and ambulance was stationed right there.

@juicebanger: I’m sure @kidsgettinghurt will show us the good stuff
  • 1 0
 @juicebanger: too who, cps?

And my money has been taken. Got a mac ride instead this summer. It was a total game changer for family outings. Had to stop when things got cold as her mittens prevented her from holding on. This will totally open up the shoulder season!
  • 1 0
Definitely, their hands getting cold is the limiting factor for sure!
  • 1 0
You can drop in hand warmers too. Keeps the riding season going.
  • 1 0
Agreed, would be a nice mac-ride addition!! I tried using koozis on my handlebars, it kinda works, two holes on each end to slip over the handlebars, although inconveniently you have to disassemble the brakes and shifters to get them on...
  • 7 1
That kid's hilarious!! "Dropping in! Send it send it!"
  • 2 0
Anybody know how they attach? Do you need the KidsRide bars or can they attach to the center part of my handlebars? (Without having to take grips/brakes/shifter/etc off first)
  • 1 0
It said ‘once wrapped around your frozen solid Renthal Fatbars…”
So I assume they velcro around the bars.
  • 5 0
Yep they're velcro. The can attach to the shotgun bars or your regular bars, no need to remove shifters etc.
  • 4 0
Now we just need a kids face freeze-protector
  • 3 0
Full fairing, plus maybe heated grips and a plug in for your electric vest! You get these on entry level motorbikes so why not a $10K bicycle!
  • 1 0
 Actual windshield you reckon?
  • 1 0
OMG we rented a tandem in Holland with kid in front of me like this and it started to rain and was really cold. Got back and our non-complaining baby boy was literally blue in the face.
  • 5 1
 suicide bags, love it :-)
  • 2 0
Curious to know what age folks are putting kids on their bikes. I’ve got a little one and I’m frothing to get him out there.
  • 2 0
My daughter started out on my bike right around 12 months, we obviously did super mild trails and not very long, but this summer (18ish months to 2 years old) she rode on her kidsrideshotgun seat and just loved it
  • 4 2
Riding shotgun, then launching like a projectile out of a shotgun. I’m sensing a Friday Fails in the making.
  • 8 0
Used a Kids Ride Shotgun seat for around 2 years, and we never had an off. Did plenty of blue and red trails, you just need to be sensible. The only reason we don't use it now is because my daughter is to big for it.
  • 2 0
Kinda reminds me of how Tiger Woods father would tape a golf club to his hands.
  • 2 0
That's where my oven gloves went!
  • 2 0
They'll sell at least 2 of these
  • 1 0
This is absolutely awesome. Look at that little shredder #RIPITUP
  • 1 0
Does it work for an e-bike too? Asking for a friend.
  • 1 0
 nice!!! I need a pair!
  • 7 0
 Shotguns or kids?
  • 1 3
Fancy Kombi stroller mitts. Also the Kids ride shotgun bar is crap. it's way too narrow and larger diameter that our handlebars. WTF?
  • 1 1
This kid is life! What vibes!!
  • 1 0
 More bike stuff.
