JBC 4X Revelations, the annual four-cross race organised by Tomas Slavik in Jablonec Nad Nisou (Czech Republic) took place last weekend. It was also the 5th stop of the 4X Pro Tour, so riders weren't only showing up to try and beat Slavik on his own track and prevent a repetition of the 2013 result, but also trying to grab valuable points in the overall standings of the 4X Pro Tour.
Radon Flow Team rider Joost Wichman, decided last year after winning the 2013 4X World Championships that he would retire from racing. But after an invite from Tomas Slavik, he couldn't resist racing on one of the sickest and most dangerous tracks that four-cross has ever seen. Plus getting the chance to improve his third place from 2013 was a nice bonus opportunity. Unfortunately for Joost things didn't go to plan, as the rider in front of him, Hannes Slavik (no relation toTomas), had a massive crash right in front of him in the semi-finals. Joost stopped to warn the medics as Hannes' crash looked absolutely horrible, rag-dolling into the woods at 50 km/h. Joost managed a 6th place in the end by getting second place in the small finals. Crowd favorite and local hero Tomas Slavik won in front of teammate Felix Beckemann and downhill rider Hynek Strouha.
Still, this was easily one of the the most awesome biking events I've ever been at, as either rider or filmmaker. The ecstatic Czech crowd in the thousands, the opening ceremony had fireworks, actual fire and the Red Bull Flying Bulls putting up a show, and the track was both very dangerous and very spectacular indeed. Ohh, and the after party... well, that can only be described as one for the record, although I wonder if anyone will actually remember anything since Masters of Dirt were absolutely destroying the place and Jagermeister were handing out free booze all night...
We hope you like the video, enjoy and make sure to join us for JBC 4X Revelations next year!
