Mongoose Bikes, today announced the addition of pro athletes Brayden Barrett-Hay and Paul Genovese to its mountain bike team. Barrett-Hay and Genovese will join riders Chris Akrigg, Greg Watts, and DJ Brandt to complete the 2016 Mongoose Mountain Team. Together, these athletes will continue to progress the sport of mountain biking.

I am very excited for 2016! The support of Mongoose has magnified my passion for riding,” said Barrett-Hay. “Mongoose has made me feel like the same kid I was when I started riding. Being part of the Mongoose team has grown my hunger for the sport, and now I have massive goals for 2016.

23-year-old Barrett-Hay is well-known for the heavily skate park-influenced riding style he brings to freeride mountain biking (FMB). In 2011, Barrett-Hay kicked off his FMB career at Highland Park’s Claymore Challenge where he took 12th place during his first major slopestyle event. In 2013, Barrett-Hay’s season ended abruptly after a crash he took dropping into the Red Bull Joyride course at Crankworx – Whistler. After six months off the bike, Barrett-Hay returned to the sport and began pushing himself to once again progress his riding.

When Brayden rides, he has an energy other riders feed off,” said Steve Wilcox, Mongoose Sports Marketing Manager. “We’re honored to have him bring that energy as well as his talent to the Mongoose Mountain Team.”

Over the last five years, Genovese has steadily climbed the ranks of the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) Series. In 2015, he ranked ninth overall in the FMB Diamond Series. Genovese has also delivered amazing edits throughout the last few seasons. With the support of Mongoose, Paul Genovese will continue to push himself as well as the boundaries of the sport.

I’m excited to be a part of the Mongoose family in 2016,” said Genovese. “I’m excited to get the support I need to compete at the highest level of slopestyle biking, as well as create fresh video content."

Adding Paul to the team was an easy decision,” said Leigh Ramsdell, Mongoose Team Manager. “He is the complete package, putting out incredible edits mixed with different riding styles – trail, slope, and dirt jump riding. He is also a pro when it comes to contests. I can’t wait to work with him and see what he brings to the brand.”

Barrett-Hay and Genovese’s teammates look forward to welcoming them to the team, as well. “When I heard that Paul was going to be my teammate, I was ecstatic,” said Mongoose athlete Greg Watts. “I pegged him as one of the next big contenders in the contest scene, and he hasn't let me down. He has a lot of talent, and I can't wait to see what he does next year. Adding younger riders to our roster brings a well-rounded vibe to the brand.

I'm hyped to have Brayden as a part of the team,” added teammate DJ Brandt. “We've traveled and competed together for a while, and we feed of each other really well when we’re riding. We also have good times off the bike; he is a solid addition to the team. Let the good times roll!

2nd pic looks like they knocked on the door of a abandoned house and got the squatter inside to come out and take a picture with their new bike.

Roberts Creek is loaded with top notch trails and dirt. We are making a trip this spring from Colorado to ride there and at CG too. It's going to be a good birthday weekend.

Are the bikes pictured here available to consumers? I recently went to their page looking for a 26" DJ and sadly didn't find one. Are they available in countries other than the US?

I'll never have the confidence to buy a top level bike from a bike company that makes 200$ walmart bikes...
  • 6 4
That was perhaps the most generic press release ever.
  • 35 1
I know, it's missing a 25 min video, a month of suspense, and 5 more posts
  • 2 0
As well as an article interviewing the owner of the sponsor and another video of a Q n A with the athlete

 Stoaked Brayden

 Why did Paul left Specialized!?
  • 3 4
I don't think Paul was ever sponsored by a bike company, I thought he just rode them because he liked their bikes. I might be wrong though.
  • 5 1
I think he rode for them a couple years back, but then they dropped him from thier roster. SO the last year he was riding their frames blacked out with support from SRAM and Fox Head
  • 1 0
o ok there I understand haha at first I thought it was a bad move like Mike Montgomery to mongoose and disappearing later.
  • 2 0
Wonder if they will ever bring a slope bike to market?

Must be riding the new Mongoose Montana. "The Montana can do it all. Whether you're riding mountain bike trails, riding paved paths or just running errands in the neighborhood, it's designed to do a little bit of everything. The aluminum frame is durable to handle tough terrain while remaining light and agile."

Closest thing I found: www.mongoose.com/usa/montana-19594

 Lmao

@swilcox that's actually really interesting you found their dirt jump page, looks like their dirt jump line only shows up on the international site (www.mongoose.com/int) but if you see the US site there is no dirt jump range listed (www.mongoose.com/usa)

Rjmtb might have received a lot of neg props, but it is a true fact that this was a very bad marketing decision by a Mongoose. Selling super cheap bikes at Wal Mart does indeed ruins the name and credibility of the brand, so it has a negative effect on the sales of their higher end bikes. Just like Smart and Mini are not called BMW for a reason, Like NS did with O1 and there are countless of more exceptions. I really don't get how Mongoose dleant sell in both markets under different names. People thinking what Rjmtb thinks about the company is the logical result of this.

Personally, if I was on their marketing team, I would change the name of their higher end bikes ASAP, instead of spending a lot of money trying to improve the image of the brand while selling $180,00 semi-death traps under the same name at the super market those same riders probably go grocery shopping.

I have to say both of these DJ bikes look super dialed and super hot!

the newest version of " looks like a session" ......... "looks like a ticket"
  • 6 1
 except it doesn't
  • 3 1
Actually, considering all dirt jump hard tails look basically like each other, this statement has some validity to it. +1!
  • 1 2
I mean, a demo doesn't look like a session either, but people still say, "looks like a session". It's a joke
