Video: Chris Akrigg "Freetrials" in Barcelona

May 30, 2018 at 10:55
by Leigh Ramsdell

Chris Akrigg got to sample some of what Barcelona had to offer on the Mongoose En Espana team trip. The weather made it so he could only ride a few hours there so he booked a trip back to Barcelona a month later to ride and film more. His latest video has a great mix of freeride and trials.

Legend has it that Chris Akrigg and Danny MacAskill embarked on a game of B.I.K.E. in April 2009. They're still at it.
  • 26 0
I bet they are still in the "B"...

Love his riding. Totally unique. Bet his name in the mongoose office is “CrAckRig” though.

 @cunning-linguist:

Anyone know the song name?

Wait..... if you’re really Sammy then that statement would have included about 19 expletives.

Awesome. A Hill in Spain 2!!!!!

I would like to see that!!

 And Jeff Kendall-Weed.

It’s a Stalemate.

We are the winners in that game!

50 to 01 chris akrigg collabo please

I'm sure I recall seeing an interview with Rat saying Chris Akrigg was the rider he most looked up to when coming up, in terms of what he can do with a bike.

@alexhyland & @dannywaskie: I think it was the downtime podcast
  • 1 0
@commutercross: I don't think I've listened to that yet so must have been something else. Thanks for reminding me tho!

@commutercross: Thanks for the intro to Downtime!!

Every new Akrigg video is a great excuse to then revisit all his others. Nice job, great medicine to get my kids out on their bikes with me!!!

Nothing puts me in a good mood like a Chris Akrigg video.
  • 28 0
Even when I have a dream that I am mountain biking, I am still not as good as this.
  • 27 0
Evidence yet again that there rely is no substitute for bike skills.

 PB comments section:
Chris Akrigg rides Mongoose: Awesome!
Anything else Mongoose: Floods comments with Walmart insults.
  • 24 2
Scientific proof that it’s the rider and not the bike.
  • 7 0
@Wamprat: scientific proof that past a point, all bikes are close enough to being the same it makes no difference!

I don't have any doubt that mongoose makes nice bikes, but the geometry isn't for me at all, and I don't like how the frames look, especially their downhill bike. The top tube is too high for me on their trail and enduro bikes.
  • 3 0
New mongoose bikes look great. Proven designs with cheap price tags. Their dh bike looks awesome to me. And its basically what anyone one is doing today (regarding suspension design), but without all the bends and shit to make it look like new stuff. Props to mongoose. Simple and effective.

When you want to go up a 1meter vertical rock and you only have a 5cm rock as a kicker.. Trials guys..

If i ever had one idol, It's Akrigg. There isn't a single rider on the face of this planet who would make me drop everything and watch a video immediately like Chris' edits do.
  • 9 0
Impressive as always. So much fun to watch Akrigg ride a bike. He does stuff most of us mortals can only dream of doing.
  • 7 0
Chris's "freeriding" always involves at least one impossible-for-mere-mortals jib that pretty just makes everything straight up expert level trials.
  • 7 0
Just came back from a 4hr ride, watched this video and want to grab my bike and go out again. It's called Akriggitis or something, no cure but riding makes you feel better.
  • 8 0
 Sod everything else, Akrigg's back.
  • 7 0
The bike control!!!!!!! Manual down the stump!?!?!?!?!?!
  • 5 0
while in Barcelona, did he get a bar stem thing that cost as much as two of his frames?
  • 5 0
Not sure I could do all that in shoes.. forget on wheels.
  • 1 0
I hope Chris Akrigg gets credit for the amount of furious pedaling he does. This guy has an amazing amount of explosive power, sprinting back and forth between the rocks etc., not to mention the ridiculous core strength these moves require. He may not be a cross country racer but I doubt he's taking four hour tea breaks between takes when he's making these films.

Damn, that boy can ride a bike!
  • 2 0
Probably some of the most inspiring riding, I think, "dude I could totally do/try/practice that outside".
  • 1 0
The classic ultimate question is, "What is the meaning of life?" The question should be, "How can I ride like @ChrisAkrigg and @danny-macaskill? Razz

One of the most under-rated riders of all time in my eyes - what a talent!
Awesome to see him doing what he does best, doing his own thing and fu*kin shiz up!
  • 2 0
He is such a beast. It boggles my mind how he can do all of that on a trail bike.
  • 1 0
I love Akrigg's behind the scenes footage too, just shows how hard the tricks he makes look easy in the final edit truly are.
  • 1 0
Awesome edit as usual. Love watching Chris ride and it serves as inspiration to improve my own trail bike skills coming from a trials background myself.

loved that slo mo shralp (is that what the kids call them these days?) corner drift thing real close to the boulder- lots of control there.

Swear to god I heard Braap at 0:36

 Finally, Akkrig strikes again !!!!!

One of my favorite riders! More please Mr. Akrigg!
  • 1 0
Such a big fan of this man! I'm always ended up being amazed everytime I watched chris vids.
  • 1 0
well, seems according to chris akrigg, there´s always a trail... everywhere!
  • 1 3
Where has the guy been hiding? Must be a year since his last edit!? Always wonder how people like this get sponsorship, one video or 2 even a year is enough to pay the bills? Akrigg makes such good videos we need one every month.
  • 1 0
Was injured after the last vid and think he chose to have surgery. Think it was his shoulder but not 100%......
  • 1 1
@Dav82: I’m pretty sure it was pelvis or femur- he took a massive fall off a clif. It’s great to see him back at it- he’s one of the very best.
  • 1 0
@vaedwards: yeh that was years ago! He got injured after his last edit some time last year....
  • 1 0
Edit... Cliff fall was 2011. Done loads of vids afterwards. Got injured at the end of 'as it lies' then did some gravel bike thing after and that was it until now. Good to see him doing what he does best!
  • 2 0
But that rear brake! Sooooooooo close to smashing it....
  • 1 0
to me this is true MTBiking skills sets... they should come before whipping or dropping your house...
  • 1 0
As a former trials rider, it blows my mind that he can do the things he does on a full suspension bike
  • 5 4
Would still rather see him riding that stuff on his trials bike.
  • 1 0
Same. If he can do all this on a 30+lb trail bike, imagine what he could be doing on a trials rig. But I guess Mongoose don't make a trials frame so it wouldn't really be showcasing their products very much.
  • 8 0
I really like that he rides a full suspension trail bike in his vids. I'm not sure I would be into them as much if he was riding a trials bike.
  • 1 0
His ridin is beyond cool!! The man , the legend , the place !
  • 1 0
That..... Was a joy to watch!
  • 1 0
Great skills. Great moves. Great vid!

 His shox's like 450psi.
  • 1 0
 No kneepads!
