Everything was coming together for our finals run, but sometimes, when testing your features, things don't always go to plan. I don't know if I'm more bummed that I couldn't make my finals run, or that fact that this is the first Rampage I missed. Either way surgery went well and the road to recovery has already began. Going to be a rough couple months, but looking forward to healing up and getting back to riding.—Kyle Strait
Honestly I think if anybody in cycling should be allowed to dope it should be these guys. Who cares if they're chasing shots of HGH with Redbull or injecting their spinal column with stem cells from Mexico, just get them healed ASAP and back doing what they love (and we love to watch). Best wishes to Kyle!
How would doping help? They are not competing in performance, instead they are competing in skills. They cannot inject or take anything that will suddenly increase their skill. Do you know something I don't?
@abzillah: Doping is not only related to the physical aspect of the performance on the contrary the mental aspect is much more important in some cases ...there are evidences that some drugs have been used in shooting, archery and even in chess or poker games.
@abzillah: I think it would be most helpful for recovery from injuries. Wouldn't surprise me if Tom van Steenberger got some stuff to recover from his injury last year that could disqualify him from race events.
Is stem cell treatment really considered doping by UCI or other sanctioning bodies? I have lots of friends with success stories of stem cell treatment from Mexico.
@davidccoleman: I think you are allowed to wear tall socks in competition, but they should be baggy. If you've got your socks flapping in the wind in the high speed sections, you're good.
@kleinschuster: Just curious why they went to MX for stem cells when stem cell treatments are widely available here in the US. At least here in AZ. I can call my natural path and get injections tomorrow.
@BenZen: I can't provide their entire reasoning but I know where they went in Mexico was/is used and recommended to them by some professional athletes they are acquainted with. One person, a 60+ year old male with a bunch of prior poor life habits had a massive heart attack. He went for multiple treatments afterwards and now functions like he is 20 years younger without the effects of the heart attack or prior poor habits. The other wanted treatment for MS which I don't believe at the time a few years ago was being done within the states but I could be wrong on that. Both people were California residents and IDK what CA has in regards to stem cell treatment offerings currently or back 5 years. Other people I know are acquaintances of those two people who have simply chosen to go to the same center based on their testimonials.
@kleinschuster: That's awesome. Just had manor knee surgery and I am considering stem cell injections to accelerate recovery. I've heard nothing but good things.
I’m just shocked he had surgery in St George. Some people don’t lose feeling until the surgery… The U of U has a proper spinal nuero center. They saved me.
@snomaster: I've had a few Virgin related surgeries in St. G and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the ER/hospital there..
IIRC, the surgery was to stabilize one of 3 broken vertebrae, so not sure if a neuro would have been required. Not a doctor and wrong a lot about everything else, though...
So gutted... the feeling when you see that landing come into view and know that he's going to be short. It sucks that this caused him to miss rampage for the first time. Heal up and get back at it soon Kyle!
Sometimes you're the bull, Sometimes you're the $hit. I hope you have a successful and complete recovery. Maybe talk to Gee's PTs about how to get back up and running!
Hope he heals well! Every year I'm worried about injuries.
On another note, speaking of POV footage, where is all the GoPro footage? I haven't seen any from the finals. Is there some kind of dumb RedBull or ESPN media embargo on releasing GoPoro footage now?
Kyle - Keep up that hard working spirit healing man. Great lines your team was putting together. Know that you have helped me enjoy mountain biking immensely since we met. Shout out to dirt jumping at Highland!! All the best. Jake
Rampage this year to me felt like a bit of a non event, without this guy in finals it was only right that the wind came in and the second runs scratched. The digging and the pre show media was all sick! Come finals day, was a bit of a yawn fest. Just the way I saw it. I was probly too hyped before
Sending positive vibes to Kyle and his family. He is a true gladiator and has proven it year after year. Big props on the music for this edit as well
...
Kyle is a man among boys. I want to take a moment to send healing vibes to the earth. I'm sorry Kyle just fucking body checked you into the next galaxy.
@djm35: yet the thumbnail with the actual title of the video "How it ended" in big yellow letters. Then video "ends" with a to be continued. That's my gripe.
The U of U has a proper spinal nuero center.
They saved me.

This is the Most c*ntry thing ever.
Sorry about your Spine, GWS
