 NICE Husqvarna!
  • 1 3
That's an oxymoron... for me it's Stihl or go home... I own a Husqy and it is a terrible saw despite being one of their professional grade saws (what REAL saw doesn't come with bucking teeth!?!?!?!?!?!?!). My somewhat cheap Stihl Farm Boss however starts on the 2nd pull and hasn't let me down in 7 years I've had it. Next to Stihl I'd ake my old Jonsrud before I'd ever go out in the bush with a Husqy... YUK!!!!

in my opinion, each company builds saws that are good. i am guessing that you are not a professional arborist. i have been an arborist/climber for 12 years and have gone through more saws than you will see in a life time. look at the top handle/climbing saws for example. the little 192t from stihl has plastic dogs and bogs down easier than the 338xpt of similar size. the 338xpt from husqy has metal ones. now the stihl ms200t will cut ten times fast than the 338 but wights a goo d bit more and cost a little more too. In closing, i have chose the 338 for my go to saw which i dropped out of a tree two years ago and it still runs like a champ daily. unless i have a huge tree to take down with a big top then i go to the ms200 to make a little quicker work of getting the tree down. by the way what year and model husqy do you have?
  • 1 1
No, not an arborist, just an Oregonian who was born with a chainsaw in his hands Wink ... I'm also a Wildland Fire "Sawyer" and lived in Australia for 2.5 years on a cattle station where we cut wood every day for cooking/camp fires (like 3-4 cords of wood a day) I learned how to use chainsaws from my uncle who was a comercial logger in the Mt. Hood Nat Forrest for 25 years and I heat my house with a wood stove meaning even in my FREE time I'm working with a chainsaw. So no, not an arborist, but... I own 5 saws currently (7 if you count the electric and pole chainsaws) and have had more then 4X that many in my life (the Husky''s been relegated to "dirt and root duty" it's so problematic...). Def. not as many saws as you've had over those 12 years, but certainly enough to fully understand the ins and outs of a chainsaw. Oh then there's having been a Firefighter/Paramedic for more then a few years and all our rescue saws, Circ and Chain alike, were Stihl...

Yeah, I know Husky does makes a decent saw, it's just that there average saws are SO FAR below the level of Stihl's IMO, I don't want to have to buy a top of the line saw just to get basic features like bucking teeth and a decent motor when I could buy a cheaper Stihl and get all those things in a sturdier package that has WAY less vibration and less hand fatigue Stihl just makes a better product IMO. We'll just have to agree to disagree mate, I don't doubt you know your saws but I know Tools, woodworking and everything else. To me Stihl is the Toyota Landcruiser/Hilux of Saws and I've yet to have that disproven in the field which for me can be pretty remote.
(EDIT: Didn't mean to sound like a dick man, just stating my background and opinion)

i grew up cutting as well. i believe you really do not know what you are talking about but do not doubt that you have been around saws. husqys run a little higher rpm in general which is nice when you are 100ft in a tree directly over 3 phase power lines and need to get a good clean quick cut. in general stihls run lower rpms which is ok becasue its less wear on the internals hence longer life possibly. like i said, both companies make awesome saws and thats all i was trying to say. i could argue what saw is better all day but its time to get back to the bike stuff. be safe out there dude and thanks for your services(firefighter/paramedic). Wish i could save lives but if i get a small cut and see a little blood i pass out.
  • 1 1
Fair nough ate, last thing I want to do is make an enemy over arguing about chainsaws aye Wink It's funny you mention passing out at the sight of blood, years ago when I first got into EMS, I was in school at a Wilderness Med. Ins. class down in Mariposa Cali. and we had to do ER rotations through Fresno UMC and 5 of our classmats got into a "code room" (where all the bad stuff happens) and saw an arterial wound that was spraying blood all over the place...so they passed out and one fo the cracked their head ope... guess who decided to give another industry a try Wink It's just something I feel like I should do cause I CAN do it aye. For whatever reason, when the "$#!* hits the fan" for some reason I just get clam and see everything in an organized way... It's not for everyone, but hey...

YOU though sir, I am in AWE of high-climbers and arborists... I LOVE climbng trees and what not, but the sheer injury rate in any given year for you guys is just through the roof aye. I've been on MANY calls involving an injured arborist (and we've got some REALLY tall tree's in these parts) who's hurt himself and then can't get DOWN. SO, my hats off to YOU for the hard work you do mate. I'm so sick of this country's attitude where if you're not a banker or a lawyer you're just a lower class citizen... F*** THAT. IF everyone was some a*shole in a suit, how would ANYTHING ever get done aye???

Now back to bike talk... when you're right you;re right aye Wink
