You Don't Need to Learn on a Hardtail - Opinion
I find that starting out on a hardtail bike helps out a lot. You get the feel for the bike, how it reacts over different terrains and how to move your body around depending on the terrain you are on. Starting on a fully, on the other hand gives you more slack and is generally more forgiving. So allowing you to ride worse but also feel good due to the suspension working instead of you. By riding like that, you rarely go back and learn the basics. On that fact I advise starting on a hardtail bike, no matter which discipline you wish to master.
