Spotted: Nukeproof eMTB - Mixed Wheels & A Motor

Team Chain Reaction Cycles-Nukeproof manager Nigel Page was spotted riding on an unmarked eMTB in Val di Fassa after the recent Enduro World Series double header in a in recent Instagram story. Nukeproof doesn't currently have an e-bike in their lineup, but by the looks of things that's about to change.

The bike shares some distinct characteristics with other Nukeproof family members, most notably, the rocker link. The suspension layout is the same as the their Reactor and Mega bikes; a Horst Link with a flipped rocker link. The bike is setup with a 29" front and 27.5" rear wheel, however, it doesn't look like there are any adjustments at the rear axle or forward shock mount, meaning it could be a dedicated mixed wheel setup.

It's difficult to tell from the screenshot, but at least the front triangle appears to be carbon, since no welds are visible near the downtube/toptube junction. The burly Rock Shox Zeb leads us to believe that this will be Nukeproof's eMTB version of the 160mm travel Mega.

We can also deduct that from the shiny logo, a Shimano EP8 is the motor of choice. And yes, there is room for a water bottle.

Note: We believe this is a bike that one of our editors has had the chance to ride already, and you'll be able to read all the details when the embargo lifts. If you'd like to learn more about how we treat embargoed products that get spotted before they launch, click here.

No battery. It has a mini nuclear reactor
  • 2 0
@won-sean-animal-chin: Yeah, the One from current rover, hehe, which is on mars now...
  • 4 0
@greg390: those aren't really nuclear reactors by any stretch. Moreso just a chunk of plutonium on the hot side of the RTG. The output of those things is ebike appropriate though. Few hundred watts.
  • 3 0
@carters75: With built-in Mr Fusion as standard.
  • 3 0
@carters75: The plutonium is required to generate the 1.21 jigawatts needed to power the bike!

But wait, Seb Stott says that mixed wheels don't work.

Finally a bike with a water bottle mount!

What do you need water for on an e bike?
  • 6 0
@jase111171: Do ebikes keep you hydrated? I've never owned one.
  • 4 0
@DanBuchanan: I'm told they don't, even with the salty tears of us non-ebike riders who get passed on the climbs
  • 1 0
@jase111171: I know these are joke comments, but for what it's worth it is really convenient on an ebike to have a bottle as each bottle lasts roughly the same as the battery. On a hot summer day, put the bike in medium assist for a 2 hour loop no problem, in winter head of for a 3+ hour adventure, all with just a 500ml bottle.
  • 5 0
@DanBuchanan: I use very little water on my ebike compared to my "Amish" bike.

@jase111171: cooling off the brakes after dragging them all the way down a blue trail of course!

Looked like Elliott Heap also had this at one point during the fairly recent edit with Adam Brayton and Danny Hart in the Lake district.

Am I allowed to say E-Bikes suck?
  • 58 22
Of course! Just like I'm allowed to say ebikes are rad! Smile

 They are also the future.

Suck, they are not true human generated power but I think they came to better people's weaknesses
  • 4 1
Only if you've never shuttled or used a chairlift.
  • 6 7
@brajal: People are inherently lazy and will justify e-bikes any way that they can.
  • 2 1
@honourablegeorge: You shuttle people are full of it. Like now you're going to buy an e-bike an stop riding the lifts? Lift lines will be a thing of the past because you'll all be pedaling up on your e-bikes?

5.500€ For that and we have a deal ,or just the frame (with motor, and all the rest of it )for 3000/3300 and we also have a deal ,deal ?,cause some bike manufacturers doesn’t offer you a deal in an assemblage bike(except some brands ,and even so ….,)it’s a shame they start to doing nothing for a customer, just sell the E frames and let the customers assemble what they prefer to have in their bikes ,cause you can get a bike for much less then some brands sells them ,it’s a shame for the brands ,and don’t tell me it was because of the Covid ,they whore doing it before ,know it’s just an excuse,But a very good looking bike ,simple ,congratulations nukeproof

The beauty about ebikes is the amount of waste generated in the process. We can fill in all the valleys and then noone has to worry about climbing anymore.

So when do the e-bikes get the new Fox auto dropper heat rate post. Then autodrive is next and then you can get an ebike Just sit on it and it will do everything for you. Taking the effort out of Mtn Biking one innovation at a time.

Destroyed LBS's, now coming for the Athletes......
  • 6 1
I want the suspension to compress in response to gps and accelerometers so I really wouldn’t have to do anything at all!
  • 4 0
@SterlingArcher: I'm Sure Fox's live valve can be programmed for that. Give them 6 months!!!
Danger Zone!!!!

@Three6ty: this type of tech would also be excellent for the sexy time, as Borat would call it.
  • 4 2
 @Three6ty quit having a sook
  • 3 4
@Baoas: Don't know what that means.

I ran into a guy on a Levo that had a heart condition. If his heart rate got close to 150 the bike would put more assistance in, to keep his heart rate down where it needs to be. Not everybody is as lucky to be healthy like most of us PB commenters.

@piratetrails: This is exactly where Ebikes and Technology should be used.

@SterlingArcher: You jest but this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen when it comes to suspension:

@Three6ty: sook (plural sooks) (Australia, Atlantic Canada, New Zealand, slang, derogatory) A crybaby, a complainer, a whinger; a shy or timid person, a wimp

Every days a school day!

@bigtuna00: there's a better one out than the Bose system. Just came out. Similar idea
  • 4 5
E-bike riding doesn´t affect the heart rate? Except maybe: "OMG my battery is about to die and I´ll have to start pedaling"!!"
  • 4 1
@SterlingArcher: the 'adult' equivalent of "I know you are, but what am I?"

Wonderful retort, fella
  • 1 0
@Baoas: so you reckon you’d do the same it seems. My eyes cannot roll any further

I love ebikes, particularly the ones that look and feel like a traditional bike. This one seems like a big step back. I've owned Levo SL and Orbea Rise, just can't see why someone would need more power than either of those.

Nukeproof doesn't currently have an e-bike in their lineup, but one of our editors has had the chance to ride already. Okay then

Is it just me or have they used electrical tape for the prototype camo?

All changes on the beloved mega to put a „water bottle into the frame“.
Oh wait. They meant a motor, not a water bottle. My fault.

Know the ugly kink in the downtube of the mega frame makes finally sense. All to fit a motor there Well played Nukeproof

MEGA as in Make Emu's Great Again? Or is that what Boris would say when he visits CRC? Big Grin

I don't know, I just don't know. I have a mtb, and really want a dirt bike again. But I don't really want an e-bike.... they just seem so lame, unless you actually need one to keep doing the sport you love, that's not lame.
