Urge have a habit of making helmets that split opinion. Whether you personally love them or hate them, they have never made a design that just fades into the background and for that you should salute them. In these parts we fall into the love side of things, they've really got under our skin and with this Realjet they might have just made their best-looking helmet yet.

They're only making 400 of these, they will feature Urge's great pad removal system, weigh 814g and be available from April. On the streets they will set you back 249 Euros, if you can get to one fast enough...here's a rough translation of their description:

Urge's designer Zoobab likes to follow his ideas. In June 1982 he took part in his first ever BMX race in Lunel, France with his brothers Gilles and Jean Rene. It was only few months after discovering the sport in an issue of BMX Action, brought back from the US by a friend. The Real Jet is a symbol of Urge's catch phrase: 'Driven by our roots.' From its BMX vintage inspiration from the 70's and 80's, to the multiple uses you’ll have with it today, you can admit it is super classy! Your roots, like ours, allow you to proudly wear this superb new creation from our 'Maitre Zoobab' Mother Zoobab, at a dirt track, a bike park, an all-mountain session or anything you feel like…you decide…be driven by your roots.

 I don't understand why people want to wear these. It's exactly the same as a full face, only this will still f*ck up your face...

 too hot for XC, no face coverage so no DH, enduro-----hmmm, maybe....it's a fantastic design but where will it live.

 i think enduro because it offers more protection than regular xc lids but because there is no face coverage it will be breathable and lightweight enough for more vigorous enduro events..

 I agree with it being used mainly for trials, as they already have the urge-o-matic thingy for enduro and AM use, which offers basically the same coverage. Troy Lee also makes a 3/4 helmet and a couple of my friends use them for dirtjumping...and I ridicule them endless for it. It just makes NO sense to me, weight of a full face but no protection for your face? I also never really understood the whole thing about fullface's being hot and uncomfortable...I only own a fullface, and never wish for anything lighter or cooler...

But that being said, it's great to see new products introduced into the market, perhaps it'll find a niche somewhere...but for me, it should stay in the 70's. (It should also be mentioned that most of them in the 70s required a mouthgard or came with a small faceplate attachement thing, ever see Joe Kid on a Sting Ray?

 For me the issue of having a hot and heavy fullface was because I bought one meant for MX before I knew there was a real difference. Thick as fuck and no vent holes. Anyway id way prefer this helmet over a halflid dirtjumping, no questions asked.

 General bmx use, covers most of your head, but leaves a nice open face with no distractions, or enclosed feeling, Its just like how the protec old school skate helmets are becoming popular, or how doyle (i belive) runs a motorbike helmet a lot like this. Everything has its uses, just because it wont do much for a 50mph head on collision with a tree, it doesnt mean it is useless. Bmx is where this is for, for anyone smarty enough to run a lid for protection, but really wants a little bit more.


If someone like protec took on this shape, i have no doubt it would catch on in a few years, if the full cut can so can this

 Which is what i mean, it isnt good for fast sports where you crash fast and cant control yourself so you dont land on your face, in bmx most of the time you can, the same sort of thing goes for fr, except the huge number of exceptions makes it more of a full face sport, but then things like trials, ect all have controllable crashes

 In summer, for example in Russia, the temperature is about 30-35 celcius, in july. So...its hard to ride in FF and breathe clearly. So this helmet will fit most of people in summer) And it better protecs your head than bmx helmet)
i've been riding urge for 1.5 year. And loves it more than fox, 661 and its cheaper than TLD

 I own one, it is a lot more breathable than you may think. I like it because it is truly a one of a kind helmet. It also spans the gap between an all-mountain helmet, bmx helmet and a DJ or street helmet, but to big and heavy for my xc rides. I love mine, and I would suggest getting one!

 Looks like a new version of the old ECKO open face BMX helmets of the late 80's - 90's. Man, I remember when they were the helmets EVERYONE wanted! (Had to have a Haro mouth guard tho, or you destroyed your face if you crash landed onto your chin!)

 i like this helmet as i seen the tld type both protect the jaw line, as well its nice to have less tunnel vision as the full face gives me, also if u are worried too much about chin digging then maybe biking isnt for you, when i buy this helmet i'm not going to think smashing my face and scratching up my new lid, "where ur eyes are lookn is where ur body goes, same goes with ur minds eye"

 Nice helmet. But do they really have to plaster the thing with their web site and name over...and over... and over. I agree with some here, it's a nice design. Buuuut where will it be good for. Not good for DH since it's not full face, and not good for cross country since it's not vented enough and to heavy.

 I was reading a study a month or so ago about helmet protection. The study found that Full Face helmets actually increase the amount of neck injuries over a half helmet. That the only added protection of a full face was your face. I hate the lack of protection found on helmets for the back of the skull. The enduro-o-matic does a pretty good job, but I really like this. A perfect super d and dj helmet for sure. I really dig it. I think that troy lee should have kept theirs available.

 I have a Endur-O-Matic and I really like it. I also have a Down-O-Matic I like it too but the pads slide around inside the helmet. These helmets are not quite as comfortable as a TLD, I know because I have a TLD SE. If the Down-O-Matic had a better pad system it would be sweet. Also, those rubber O rings around the vents fall out very easiliy on my Down-O-Matic, minor detail but still worth mentioning.

 you could by five urge lids for one tld lid and i think they are just as good.. i dont own a down o matic but the padding on my endur o matic is one of my favorite things about the helmet.

 The padding on the Down-O-Matic moves around, but the padding on the Endur-O-Matic doesn't move around at all, I don't know, I still like em both, but when your DH ing' in the Down-O-Matic, the helmet moves around even though the fit is tight, so I think it's the pads

 THIS ISN'T A FULL FACE GUYS! Why do you guys wear your bmx lid then? It's not a full face. They are not made for the same damn thing you'd use your full face on.

 Love the retro look, just like on the TLD. I own both an enduromatic and downomatic and both are very comfortable, lightweight and good quality. Urge have become my nr 1 choice in helmets because of this.

 Been riding with a Down o' Matic for over a year now, best helmet I've used and isn't the tired D2, D3 design everyone was rocking for ages. Good to see fresh designs coming through!

 Another great helmet by urge. Although they split opinions on the design front, when you try them on they are great helmets (if a little on the small side)

 Don't get the point of this helmet vs the endur-o-matic. I wanted chin protection for all mountain and went for the Archi Enduro, which I'm very happy with, but don't see the added value of the Real Jet.

 awesom awesome stuff, i've been riding an Enduro-matic for over a year and it's the best helmet i've ever had ....... period, will never ever consider another lid ever again

 Ive been riding with a Downo-matic all last year and i loved it. They are great helmets, super light and nice fit. The visor is also the best thing about it in my opinion, cant see that ill ever go back to any other brand.

 This is throwback to the ole troy lee half lid. Lot of freeriders used to rock these because better vision without mouth guard. Call it what you want they look donkey and not protecting your grill at all. Urge always have those ugly round vents, i'd like to take a dump right in that helmet.

 Love the looks but at nearly 1.8 pounds it's pretty hefty for an open face helmet. For about the same weight you could get the archienduro and save your face in a bad spill.

 LOVE IT !!! Coming from the late 1970s and early 1980's BMX scene...this one brings back some memories...should have button on the side for a Jofa rock guard though...

 this just completely defeats the purpose of a full face.
either have the full face (including the chin!) for protection or just go with a light bucket not a "half" face UGLY

 Yeah TLD had an open face which was pretty cool but I still kinda wonder why... I like the protection of a full face but perhaps that's just 'cause I always seem to use my face as a brake! Wink

You can't justify a helmet like this compared to a full face. You don't buy it because of any distinct advantage, you just buy it (and use it) because you LOVE IT!

 well it provides more protection than a pisspot, without the stuffyness of a full face on a hot day. that and i fucking love these open face designs, the troy lee and this one!

 when new helmet time (my birthday) came around last year i took a saw to the front of my old D2 and when the job was done properly, well must say it looked great! even better looking than the factory made open face D2 if anythig because buy following the pads to cut around you get a nice squared front - looks way nicer that the round, moto-trials style.

 Just blagged mine now! Not arriving til May though. I love the way it totally divides opinion. I'm going to run it for the Gravity Enduro series. Just need some mega-loud goggles to clash nicely!

 do you know how hard they are to track down….I have been looking for over a year and either they want $200 for one used thats been beat to crap or they are XS or XL. I could only use a lg or maybe med. they are impossible to find, at least in decent shape.
