Video: Supercross Pre-season Round-up

by Matt Wragg
The Supercross season kicks off Saturday night in Anaheim, California. That means two things: one, we're very excited and two, pre-season videos. Every year the teams and riders put out edits to get the fans in the mood for the season and if you like whips, scrubs, speed and noise that means it's a bit of a golden time for internet videos. Yes, they're not mountain bikes, but damn they're good. Here are our favourites right now:

The Rise: Justin Barcia Heli Shoot

One of the things we most want to see this weekend is this man: Justin Barcia. Coming off a championship year in the Lights class last year and a strong showing at the Monster Cup in October, we can't wait to see how he gets on with the big boys on the 450s this year. And just look at those whips... Just look at them.

RV-Specialized Road to Recovery Directors Cut

For the last two season Ryan Villopoto has been the man to beat, winning pretty much everything he showed up to. Unfortunately it hasn't all been plain sailing and he's picked up a few injuries along the way. To help him recover he's been riding Specialized bikes, who brought in none other than Clay Porter, and his partners at Metis Creative, to put together some short films about his recovery.

Welcome to Boot Camp with James Stewart

It's hard not to like James Stewart, but he's had a couple of rough seasons and remained in the shadow of Villopoto. For 2013 he's with a new team, Yoshimura Suzuki, so nobody knows quite how that's going to play out, will he get on with the new bike, will he be in the fight for the championship by the time the season rolls into Vegas? One thing we do know is that he sure looks comfortable training in this video.

Chad Reed Is Back! Training For Supercross 2013

Hands down, Chad Reed is the toughest man in Supercross. When the major teams turned their back on the former champion he didn't give up, setting up his own team - 22 Racing. Slowly the speed seemed to be coming back to him and he was starting to look like a championship contender last year until he destroyed his knee in round seven at Dallas. He's not one to let an injury like that beat him and for 2013 he'll be back in the hunt for another series title.

Vurb Platinum - New Years Dreamland

Ok, this isn't strictly a pre-season video, but you just have to love Vurb's Platinum series.

Trey Canard REvival 41

Hands-down, the crash that took out Trey Canard last year was the ugliest crash all season. Ryan Morais tripled onto him mid-race, breaking his back. This is a full 32 minute movie about Canard's comeback from that...

It´s really cool see PB publishing some MX/SX news and vids, I encourage the idea Wink
  • 21 3
ide like to see more freeride/freestyle type mtb events that are more mx inspired. bigger airs with moto style tricks. super man, indian airs, etc.
  • 7 2
Need them on rampage esp Pastrana.
  • 4 3
Just wanna to see more news from MX sport on Pinbike for sure!
  • 4 1
i think its impossible to not enjoy this when you watch it!
  • 5 1
the more news from similar sports the better, keeps us inspired. But i have to say it: there needs to be more trials news here (i don't ride trials), there has not been a single line written about the world championship this year although it is way more interesting than xc in my opinion.
More trials videos keep popping up on pinkbike which is a good thing also. I like the versatility.

MTB and MX/SX is like bacon and pizza. Each great on their own, but a magnificent creature when combined!

 Maybe a sports bar?
  • 10 1
Just drive around and look for a house with a bunch of 4x4 trucks with Fox head stickers, they'll be watching it. Just bring some cheap beer.
  • 6 0
Justin Barcia's is so badass! His whips are insane :O
  • 6 0
are these guys capable of straightairing a jump? i dont think so
  • 1 0
Straight airing isn't the fastest way to get around the track. Stewart "invented" the modern scrub in the early '00s and everyone has adopted it because it allows them to stay closer to the ground and keep faster lap times. Stamp it.
  • 5 1
"Hey Justin, I don't think we got you doing a whip over the jump. Can we try that again?"

repeat 4013482 times and you have a supercross video.
  • 8 2
 scrub a dub dub
  • 4 1
holly crap they get more air in Supercross Pre-season then mountain bikers get at red bull rampage. not hateing just an obseravation
  • 4 1
Of course. Dirt bikes have the weight and power to carry much more energy in the air = they can go higher and longer.
Because of the weight they are also A LOT more stable in the air.
  • 2 0
yeah and they have an engine to recover them in the air, and give them a boost when landing. also a foot a suspension doesnt hurt
  • 2 1
Lol barcia has the best whips and the worst attitude....last year he would put his OWN teammates in the cheap seats just so he can get the W. not one of my favorite riders but I must say he's good. Chad Reed on the other hand hasn't even gotten his 2013 450r in his video and yet he's still ripping. But Ryan Villipoto...people better watch out for the champion because he's hungry for more

Let's see Villapoto on that Specialized mt. bike.

James Stewart is like the Tiger Woods (when he was decent lol) of dirt bikes, except he has the capacity to get waaayyyy more girls hahaha
  • 3 0

Hes maturing haha, such a cack up watching his old races limiter just bouncing all the time hahaha
