Andreu Lacondeguy's reputation as a wild man is well deserved, stemming from his unquenchable drive to push his bike and his body to the absolute limit. On Thurday, when riders migrated to the old Rampage site to session a hip jump, Lacondeguy was once again boosting as high as possible, and shaking off crashes that would crush the average rider. Andreu's fourth place finish from last year, which he earned with a blistering fast run from the top of the ridge and a drop off the Oakley Sender, means that he is prequalified and won't need to compete until Sunday's big show. This year Lacondeguy will once again be riding an aluminum framed YT Industries Tues 2.0 with 208mm of travel.
YT Industries Tues 2.0
• Rear wheel travel: 208mm / 8.2"
• Wheel size: 26"
• Head angle: 63.5°
• Adjustable dropouts, 425-435mm chainstay length
• Aluminum frame

Suspension:
Up front, Lacondeguy is running a Marzocchi 888 RC3 with 200mm of travel. The coil sprung fork has adjustable preload, rebound, high speed and low speed compression damping. Interestingly, he is running a different suspension brand in the rear of the Tues 2.0, with a BOS Stoy Rare helping to keep the rear end under control as it goes through its 208mm of travel. The coil sprung Stoy has adjustable rebound, high speed and low speed compression damping.

photo
Drivetrain:
Lacondeguy's drivetrain is fairly standard on a bike of this caliber, a setup that consists of carbon Truvativ X0 cranks with a 36t chain ring and a 10 speed cassette. A SRAM X0 rear derailleur takes care of the shifting, and an e*13 LG1 handles chain retention.

photo
Components:
A Renthal Fatbar and direct mount stem create the bike's cockpit, with a pair of Avid's X0 Trail brakes help the flying Spaniard control his speed should he decides to use them, and a set of Sensus lock-on grips. Mavic's Deemax wheels are shod with Continental's meaty Kaiser tires. Other components include a pair of well worn DMR Vault pedals and an SDG I Beam seat and post. Plus, there's a Unit sticker with a scantily clad woman on it for that extra bit of good luck mojo.

that frame is BEEFY—makes a triple clamp with 38mm stanchions look almost spindly. i think it's actually quite a good looking bike, though

Soo.....you call it a triple clamp, neg prop the kid who corrected you, then post an thread that shows that you are wrong and he is right.....damn PB Sometimes -_-
  • 28 3
the thread very clearly says that triple clamp and dual crown are both totally acceptable... damn reading sometimes.

I'm not going to claim to be a qualified engineer who can school you on terminology, but I find the easiest way to think about that whole triple clamp/dual crown thing is if it you look at really old forks the arch wasn't an integrated part if the lowers it was a metal plate that could be bolted to the lowers on either side, CLAMPing them in place and improving stiffness hence the arch could also be called a clamp. The arch is not, however, a crown (as I believe, and I am sure someone will correct me on this if I am wrong, a crown has to be connected to the steerer, ?although that is not how it is defined?) so triple CLAMP yes, triple CROWN no.

If you have ever put dual crowns onto a bike then you would know that the crowns can also be considered as clamps since most use pinch bolts to clamp onto the stanchions. Obviously there are a few exceptions you would probably be right in saying that manitou dorados are dual crown but not triple clamp since they have no arch but hopefully no-one is pernickety enough to give a shit about that since they would obviously know what you mean.

 My bad mateys.

There is an upper crown (above the head tube) and a lower crown (below the head tube), hence "dual crown." The top crown has three clamps on it - one on the steerer and one on each stancion, hence "triple". I may be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

Yt have amazing priced bikes for the spec, literally unbelievable!!

  • 12 3
Thats suuuucks, They'll ship to me, do you want to buy it for me??

big coin to trust in a strangers hands!!! haha. thanks for the offer though!!

There may be license issues and other stuff involved. Canyon (another German brand) can't sell their regular bikes in Switzerland, because there is a copyright issue with the name "Canyon". So, the guys at YT are definitely not trying to piss you off, they just really can't do it for some reason.
  • 3 0
Contacted them directly a few months back. Won't ship to Canada. Must be an issue with a copyright on their rear suspension which looks Horst-Link-ish. Pretty sure Specialized owns that patent, but if I'm wrong hopefully someone will tune me on that. I'd give one serious thought based on their excellent pricing. I saw a few at Whistler this year. I was impressed.

whatever the reason its shattering cos they're sweet looking rides with awesome spec... I just wanted a different bike to everyone else!!!
  • 4 0
I bought one and had it shipped to a friend in the UK then over to me in the US. It was a hassle but totally worth it. This thing rips and is a steal for the price, Rampage spec bike for the price of all the other brands budget DH rigs.

The Horst-Link issue is definitely one of the problems. When I think about it, most of the European brands use it at least on some of their bikes. Patents, blessing and curse in one...

"The coil sprung Stoy has an open bath damping cartridge..." Mike K. please stop drinking.
  • 8 0
Different damper styles (open bath, cartridge etc.) are features in forks, not shocks.
  • 3 0
Yeah no such thing as open bath shocks in the bike world. They're all sealed and pressurised dampers.
  • 13 0
You're right - I must have have been thinking about the 888's open bath damping when I was writing about the rear shock. Good catch.

I am wondering why he is not running Marzocchis new 380. A black 380 would look so bad ass. still the bike looks awesome! hopefully this is a 2014 paint job. btw 888 dont have HSC.
  • 4 2
So you think he should run a 380 purely on looks? lol k.
  • 1 1
He has an 888 already. Might not have suspension sponsors? But it definitely works and he is probably use to it. More important than showing new kit off a 50ft drop
  • 1 0
He has, He's doing it for marzocchi, I'm just confused by the BOS damper. But maybe he didn't have a maryocchi damper at hand and the YT guys have a lot of the BOS stuff (part of one of their bikes) so they just packed one with the frame. The Italians will definitely not be amused about this...
  • 2 0
He's sponsored by marzo, but he has the bos shock because YT uses weird shock lengths that marzo doesn't make
  • 1 0
267mm is not weird at all, it's a normed mtb shock lenght and is used by several brands. But apart from that I, too, think that this is the exact reason he runs BOS in the rear.
  • 1 0
Well, in any case, marzo doesn't make a shock that size. He normally runs a CCDB though
  • 1 0
Nope, the reason you saw him on a CCDB last year, is, that last years YT Tues 2.0 was equipped with it. This year the spec is exclusively BOS. So he obviously runs whatever shock YT puts on their bikes... You are absolutely right about the former, though. Anyways, have fun watching.. only 30 minutes left!
  • 1 0
@UnknownDHRider: no, i dont think he should run a 380 purely on looks. marzocchi is his fork sponsor and i would expect them to use the world wide atttention to the riders to advertise their new product (just like YT shows the 2014 paintjob?!) Especially since he would benefit from an adjustable HSC
  • 1 0
C'mon... don't you think he can have his HSC shims tuned as he pleases by Marzocchi? On the other hand you're totally right... But I guess Marzocchi has shaved so much weight off the 380, that it would be kind of unresponsible to use it for rampage. Wise choice if you ask me... the claimed weight is insanely low.
  • 1 0
actually TMac is running a 380, so that made we wonder why Andreu isnt.

  • 1 0
That is definitely not a 380. Old crowns, old casting, old seals, old knobs.
This is what the 380 looks like reviews.mtbr.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Simone-Bassi-and-380-DH-fork.jpg
  • 1 0
my bad, you are right. i guess i was paying more attention to the rampage stream Big Grin
  • 1 0
Good luck Andreu! Great looking bike too.

 Are those size xs?
