Gwin rides 29ers now. It's made him soft. Expect to see him fall from the spotlight in DH racing, and turn to Enduro racing.
  • 31 4
Pumped for Smith, can't wait to see vid coverage, and its not gwin being slower spec bikes are just slow Wink haha jk. In all reality though Spec took another gamble signing the #1 rider, its not like he can do any better than he has last 2 seasons!

 Ratboy 2nd! Bam!
  • 21 1
 Yeah Connor!
  • 8 1
 Go Stevie, more awesome results.
  • 102 3
I remember when we'd just cheer for all the riders regardless of who won. Now people have to shit on certain people for some reason. Stay classy.
  • 3 3
Being cautious, can't risk his movie career.
  • 6 0
do someone know if the claw raced it ? and where did he finished?&
  • 43 0
Claw raced, finished 28th. Damn good.
  • 10 0
 Yeah Connor, Aussie represent!
  • 2 2
So many fan boys dreams crushed Big Grin
  • 2 0
Damn, a whole lot of you kids are calling it before the season even starts by ripping on Gwin. You must have some psychic ability or somethin.
  • 8 1
 @TJquinn history shows that :

when sam hill was on ironhorse he was like chuck norris, then when he moved to specialized he became justin bieber !, this theory will be put to the test this season!.

Respect to steve !
  • 3 0
I think gwin will struggle to match his results purely because he's hard into pedals. Love my demo... But for his level, he depends on his strong pedals.... The trek was a lot higher bb
  • 2 0
I think after a few races he might come back strong but to see bryceland on the podium more this year would be sick! He's been so close past few years, and also cool to see Steve up there too!
  • 1 1
Hating on Gwin is like hating on Villopoto in Supercross. Guys that win all the time make the sport less fun to watch. It becomes a contest for 2nd place. It's natural to not want riders like this to win.

Steve Smith, on a role from last year

Is there a site where we can see what type of bikes the riders are using?
  • 4 0
 Gracias. I appreciate it.
  • 30 1
It isn't because someone or their bike is slow..It's because Steve is fast.
  • 27 0
I just know that it will only be time before we see Connor Fearon on WC podiums.

Definitely agree! Glad Delfs is out of the way and Fearon is "the guy."
  • 2 2
Delfs not riding a Kona though. But i know what you mean.
  • 13 1
Why would you be glad any rider is "out of the way" man? You should be rooting for Delfs and Fearon.
  • 4 0
Both Delfs and Fearon are rad on and off the bike, to wish any ride is out of the way is a little over the top. However I agree, provides Connor with a lot more lime-light that has been well earned.
  • 6 0
Sorry you guys misunderstood my comment. Delfs was clearly "the guy" for Kona last year. I'm just happy that Fearon has assumed that role.
  • 6 1
a kona getting on the podium? hell yeah!
  • 22 0
Great job Steve... but what about the Claw?
  • 25 0
 28th place.
  • 26 0
what he^ said. Berrecloth posted it on twitter. which 28th is still pretty impressive for someone that does freeride most of the time
  • 5 0
damn bearclaw that is pretty friggin impressive!!
  • 21 2
Awe, come on guys, can't you throw up the pro women's list as well? Show the ladies some respect!
  • 4 1
I agree, and some picks. Is it that hard to post the top ten like you did the men?
  • 13 1
There will be photos up later tonight - the race just wrapped up, and it takes time for the photographers to edit their shots. We'll post more complete results and times as soon as they're available.
  • 8 0
the ladies need times as well so we can see by how much Jill smoked the field

Stoked for Steve. Don't knock Gwin though, 4th isn't anything to shake a stick at.
  • 10 0
I am a steve smith fan no doubt and like to see him doing well. As for the gain situation and people saying the demo is a slower bike. I think it may be similar to the James Stewart situation. Someone came in and blew people's mind with speed and talent and ways to ride a bike. Now everyone trains more and has learn to ride like James which I feel could be the same now. People are seeing gwin ride and are trying mimick him and can do it and everyone is stepping up the game. Just my thoughts. Either way glad to see smith get a win
  • 2 1
Yep , same thing happens every few years , last peson to make every one step up was Hill , now gwin.

Then again it's not a WC race soo maybe gwin didnt put his undivided attention to it ?
  • 2 0
Still, expect the trolls to come out of the word work and run their mouths and talk shit for no reason whatsoever. I've never seen such vitriol towards someone in our sport except for Alex Pro. It's kind of sickening, especially when he's such a stand up guy who works his ass off for his results.
  • 1 0
Alex Pro is the man! You don't compare him to Gwin ever. AP made a mistake and Gwin made his own bed.
  • 1 0
Alex Pro did made a mistake and then lied to all of his sponsors and his fans about what he did even after we had evidence of him doing these things, and only after intense pressure from the community manned up.

Gwin made his own bed? What is that supposed to mean? He went to a better sponsor when he was well within his legal rights to do so? Yes, you're right, in that case he did make his own bed.
  • 1 0
If Gwinn wasn't god squad he wouldn't have got the slightest negative comment. Ever.
  • 9 0
I'm not a Gwin fanboy or anything, but those saying his bike is slow, or that he's not as good... are you kidding? If it was the bikes fault, Brook McDonald should've beaten him as he now rides the Trek right? Super stacked field and he came 4th. I fear he'll be a different beast come world cup...
  • 2 1
I can't say for sure but from the photos on other sites it looks like Gwin rode a 26 inch bike... not a 29er. Am I wrong? Also looks like Jill went with a 26 en lieu of the p5 as well.
  • 9 0
So stoked for Stevie!! Don't discount Gwinn, he might not be giving 100%, playing is safe early season and slowly turning up the performance is a common and good tactic. Though, cant help but feel like this could be Stevies season.
  • 9 0
Neko not too far off pace - good to see. Gwin's results at these kinds of races were pretty similar last season. Then the WCs came and everyone was wondering why they were 8 seconds off Gwin's pace. That said, I think Stevie is going to pull down another win this year - way to go! Would be cool to see Bryceland pull down a win too - I'd like to see that. I love seeing first time wins - it's just awesome.
  • 1 0
 yeah neko RAD
  • 12 0
What no cheers for Casey Brown?

Nice work girl!!!!
  • 2 0
revy representing, bloody good to see her up there! would be great to see her on a few podiums this year!
  • 7 0
this may not be a worldcup round but i think this is a preview of things to come for steve smith's season this year. he looks fit, strong, and mighty fast.. he may be the man to beat this year!!
  • 6 0
Looks like the w.c. Is going to be fun to watch this year. Steve is picking up right where he left off, Gwin will always be a threat and some of he young guns like Connor look focused. I don't think any one rider is going to dominate this year which should make for a great year.
  • 12 2
 Rat boy onit!
  • 9 1
yeeeea Brook ! Getting up to speed nicely, keep the podium results rolling !!
  • 14 5
 Only one pro female?
  • 7 1
 yeah, she raced solo....apparently Smile
  • 3 0
That kind of sucks for Kintner, taking the win by default pretty much. Not saying she doesn't deserve it though!

Its always nice reading/viewing coverage of the girls too, but I guess that is hard to do if they don't race or there is only a handful of them.

Did she even bother to do a time or just take the win with a DNS?

Could have postedher time so we can see how many of the guys she would have beaten!
  • 7 0
Results are still coming in...Jill definitely had competition. We'll get the full results up as soon as we have them.
  • 5 0
There were a lot of fast pro women, Casey Brown, Miranda Miller, Jaime Reese, just to name a few. They just didn't report past #1.
  • 8 0
Its great to see Stevie on top of the podium!!!!
  • 7 0
Can we keep in mind that the results were pretty similar last year, and it worked out pretty well for Gwin in the end.

This is awesome! Steve is going to have an awesome season this year
  • 10 5
Good For Stevie!!! Great for Gwin... That Demo is slooooow... Cant wait to see more proof with Hill on his awesome Nukeproof!
  • 2 4
Demo is old !!! Smith is fu fast. Gonna be an interecting season.
  • 12 1
 "interecting"

Haha. I like this new word.
  • 8 0
 Fearon !
  • 2 0
 Yeah buddy!
  • 7 0
Connor Fearon smashed it. Can't wait for WC to start
  • 6 3
YEAH STEVIE!!!! On home turf too! About Gwin tho, I can't help but wonder about his new bike. I ain't hating on the S-Works Demo but he WAS on a 9.9, pretty damn good bike that one. I guess we've all been brainwashed to some degree since the 9.9 and the V10c were the first top-end carbon DH rigs to ever grace the world's gravity trails/tracks so it's only normal to use 'em as a reference... Can't wait to see what this season brings!
  • 5 0
For the Smith superfans, remember that Smith won here last year, beating Gwin. Gwin had a rough world cup season after this race last year eh?
  • 7 0
 yeah Steve!!
  • 6 0
Fuck Yea STEVIE! Island Pride! Claw in the top 30 is huge too!
  • 9 0
I'm gonna drink some lucky tonight to celebrate!
  • 9 3
Sooo, Gwin got Norbbed? Cause it didn't loo like a Session?
  • 7 2
Hey i don't think the winner should be allowed to ride a 26" wheel, isn't that an advantage over those on a 29" wheel?
  • 5 0
 Umadbro?
  • 6 1
over 2 seconds!! shweeet! queue the flood of demo 8's in the B&S
  • 5 0
Yeah Steve for sure. But hey guys lets not forget Jill as well way to go
  • 1 0
Inspired by the naming of the "underworld cup" series, Cannondale has announced a new "overworld cup" series starting next year. Seems over-mountian wasn't enough, they want to show that the bikes they make are capable of going over any world. Stay tuned for details.

 Connor Fearon what a shredder
  • 4 0
 CG on the waterfall.. wow
  • 2 0
I think Mr Smith is probably the fastest DH racer in the world right now. I'm sure Gwinn is very close as is Minnaar but I'd have Steve favorite for the overall WC.

Miranda Miller for Prime Minister, about time for a ladies touch!
  • 5 1
 where are the athertons?
  • 1 0
mostly north americans are competing here. don't think many aside from neething and beer think its worth the trip.
  • 1 0
 oh thank you
  • 2 0
the athertons went back to the UK after Sea Otter
  • 1 0
What about the rest of the Syndicate? Did they fly out after Sea Otter?
  • 9 0
Now i don't understand why anyone who flies across the globe to race Sea Otter wouldn't compete in this race. If not for the friendly competition, then at least for the beautiful terrain of the north west..... On other note Steve, Gwin The Claw and the rest of the field make me proud to have bikes in my blood. Cheers

Atherton's went back home to prepare for a soon to come National Race at Fort William.
