Video: Flying Bicycle

Jun 14, 2013 at 16:55
by Mike Kazimer

Three Czech companies, Evector, Technodat, and Duratec, have teamed up to create a flying bicycle. The vehicle is powered by an electric battery, and weighs in at 85 kilograms. Current flight time is claimed to be 5 minutes at speeds of up to 50km/h, with plans in the works to extend that time to 50 minutes. It's still very much a prototype, and bike was controlled remotely with a dummy taking the place of a live pilot for the test flight, but a more refined version is due to be unveiled at a tradeshow in September.

What a complete and absolute waste of money.
  • 90 3
E.T is going to be sooo happy when exibit shows him his new pimped out ride
  • 31 3
when will the carbon model come out?
  • 5 2
its not even a real person flying it.
  • 13 2
fuck yea il jam that to skool
  • 23 2
Its not a waste of money, every advanced tech has to start in early protos. Eventually we will have advanced hover bikes/cars... has to start somewhere. I bet people thought the first cars were a waste of money, 'why bother having something so expensive and slow that uses fuel when you can just have a good powerful horse for cheaper'...

Redcorn: I get that feeling everytime I come home after a ride on HT and look at my FS super bike... When I look at a sportscar, at a guy travelling to Tibet to ride a bike, or at a Redbull Rampage. Then I switch off rationality get some colours and life's good again. That what makes us human
  • 3 2
I have one thing to say, and one thing only - WHYYYYYYYY!
  • 14 0
why does it need to be a bike it is basically a flying chair when would you ride it since it cant really turn... im lost
  • 9 1
i will never run clips put this looks like it may change my opinion haha
  • 3 0
thanks for the great laughs today people.
  • 7 0
Looks like a..... Nevermind, it looks like a flying bike
  • 2 0
First electric bikes now this how could it get any better!???
  • 5 0
its gonna be awesome when someone runs this into the power lines
  • 4 2
 Looks like a trek session...
  • 4 1
 that's retarded
  • 1 0
 I want now!
  • 1 1
what the hell is the point of putting a bike on this? why not just make a mini personal helicopter...who is going to seriously bike this thing around with a good 100lbs of motors/batteries/and rotors...
  • 1 1
Radrider: why would soneone drop off a 20ft cliff on a bicycle? Why would someone submit himself to a proctological nightmare that taking a 150 mile road race is? We are all irrational, even engineers only in different ways. Some are irrational and creative. Humans are diverse, some of them are nutters and they do shit just because they want. Like selling perfectly fine bicycle just because they saw a new version of it with slightly bigger wheels Big Grin

Don't ditch something for waste of time and money especially that you involved yourself in an activity that is typing a comment on the internet Wink You never know what can come out of that: just sit back and enjoy it. Zen it!
  • 1 1
We all just need to see the big picture is all. Dang, wake up ardrider.
  • 1 1
the problem is im seeing the bigger picture more clearly then you are... Do you honestly think youll be able to pedal this thing around with any sort of speed, agility or ease? trust me i am wide awake and this in my eyes is ridiculous...it's no different then strapping cranks onto a motogp bike and saying "look ive made the fastest bicycle in the world!"
ill admit the idea of having a small nimblish easy to operate and most likely cheap helicopter is an amazing idea, i think the bike aspect of it is ridiculous. if it had motorized power to the wheels it would make a lot more sense.
  • 1 0
BIGGER PICTURE! Does not need to be in this exact format. They just chose a bike as the layout. In reality they could mount it to a lawn chair, sofa, go-cart, kitchen sink, hell almost anything. I'm pretty sure the mtb was just a visual aid. I didn't want to piss ya off man, sorry if I did. Have a great summer!
  • 1 0
doesn't piss me off at all lol, just expressing my opinion.
  • 1 0
seems like we may have misunderstood eachother, im seeing the the heli aspect of the design as the big picture, and whatever is attached to it is just dead weight in my opinion.(unless they attach rocket boosters)
  • 1 1
Now what they should do with this it attach a tube dispenser on it and when you get a flat in the middle of no where you just have to text it! That'd be pretty sweet.
  • 70 4
 But will it blend?
  • 38 6
F**K YOU I WAS JUST ABOUT TO POST THAT!!! Smile
  • 38 1
All this needs is a basket with an alien in it.
  • 28 1
 Then you wouldn't need propellers.
  • 39 3
I bet this bike "floats" over jumps!
  • 72 1
definitely doesn't look like a session
  • 14 5
Yeah those are definitely 29 inch wheels.
  • 7 7
I bet you get a "lift" flying that thing.
  • 13 5
I bet you can boost jumps so high on it
  • 7 1
 Ba dum chh!
  • 6 0
I'd be the next danny hart if I rode that in champery...

kranked350z or does it look like a session? That's the question.

The answer is no, it doesn't look like a session. You got it right. Congrats
  • 33 0
Thats not a flying bicycle, its just a helicopter with a bike strapped to it.
  • 4 0
Yea, I mean how are you supposed to pedal it? It's basically a small helicopter.
  • 18 0
A serious question: Why the hell does anyone need one of those? The great thing about a bike is that it can a) go almost anywhere anyways and b) is light enough to be propelled by pedals. This contraption makes just getting down the road a bloody nightmare so what niche does this thing possibly fill other than novelty celebrity drop-ins? Any suggestions for the company people?
  • 4 0
Bin it. Burn the plans. And NEVER EVER think about it again.
  • 2 0
do a drop off of a cliff without having to pull a chute and drop the bike, or a race where it's ski/board, (#1) cliff drop with a wing-suit, pull chute, land on flying DH bike, (#2) cliff drop/fly off of it with the bike, (#3) land onto a boat/kayak that is built to house the bike-release-then go down some rapids, then life down in a field below and wake up from the dream O.o
  • 17 0
i can make cam Zink's canyon gap look like child's play if i had that bike. Wink
  • 14 0
You'll look even cooler if you put it on Cam Zinks walmart hyper.
  • 16 0
Finally I can go to the grocery store during the zombie apocalypse.
  • 12 0
Okay, then what's the idea of it being a "bike"? It's clearly some crazy hovercraft. It could have been a flying chair for all that matters. No point in this being called a bicycle at all. Still cool though.
  • 13 0
dosent it defeat the purpose of a bike?
  • 11 2
But will it be carbon fiber?
  • 4 0
 Current model looks flexy.
  • 1 0
 carbon indeed
  • 6 0
Semenuk already invented a method for a flying bike with 50 minutes of in air time... should have done the research before they wasted time putting rotors on that thing...
  • 7 0
I feel like I just watched part of a "mythbusters"
episode where they see if the bike would fly in E.T.
  • 8 4
That bike blows! But srsly they should replace the bike and rider with a giant potato! Flying car, flying boat, flying bike but when has anyone ever invented a dual tandem rotor flying giant potato! FN FLYING POTATO FTW!!!! who is with me!!! come on ...... someone..... this is a great idea! All I need is some investors to get the prototype finished and delivered to the "flying crap" trade show in Czechoslovakia.
Wow what a rant.... kinda feels like a big fart. Much better now Smile Thanks PB subscribers!
  • 12 0
 Kinda ironic with your username....
  • 4 0
You know what.... subconsciously, I am probably just mad that they stole my idea. I am just replacing the bike with a really big potato to rebuild some resemblance of my now destroyed psyche.
  • 3 0
 Czechoslovakia doesn't exist anymore Wink
  • 2 0
Dammit that derails my whole giant flying potato plan. just forget the whole thing! Frown
  • 7 0
sssshhhhh did you hear that? yeah? well that is the sound of me not giving a f*ck. good night Big Grin
  • 8 1
They should make one for cats.... I'd buy that....

  • 8 2
I fly my bike without power all the time at whistler...
  • 6 0
There is literally no point to this
  • 3 0
I think a personal helicopter would be more practical. You don't need wheels when your flying and you don't need awkward propellers while your riding.
  • 2 1
I saw this a few days ago... 3 countries team together. We can send a spaceman to the moon, launch missiles from 30 kilometres away and hit within 10 meters of the target. Build land vehicles capable of 300mp/h and they come up with this amazing heap of shit? WOW. Bravo! Look at the size of it... You need a space bigger than a car slot to park it. So if this took off. Cities would be congested. And the 2 main things. It would create even more obese people as they wouldn't have to peddle. And would bankrupt people because of the price. A bike is a bike. I think people should go back to the roots of what a bike is about. Even in DH we are seeing electronic substitutes. Why? So a company can say "look what we have" and charge through the teeth? I love switching from my DH bike to a hard tail to feel what a bike feels like. And it improves skill and Better line selection. Some people can't ride a bike or dive a car. Can ya imagine the insurance group if they got hold of one of these? Prepare for sudden death. Rant over Smile

  • 2 0
So...a) From which side would you bail out to avoid your limbs turning into mince? b) To what am I going to chain that to when out and about?
  • 3 0

  • 2 0
my bike flies without batteries and propellers. flies higher and makes less noise to. Big Grin
  • 1 0
I dont even see why the bike is necessary??!! Why not just make it a flying machine/helicopter? Why would anyone ever seriously "Ride" a bike that flew??
  • 3 0

  • 1 0
Wow I just had a terrible idea, lets make a flying bike to defeat the purpose of a bikeSmile
  • 1 0
Cool invention but makes a lot of noise and afterall we dont need any innovations to fly on a bike...that's the best Fun!
  • 1 0
being an engineer, desinging helicopters, i have great respect for what they have accoplished...but why???
  • 2 0
I could use that amazing space so much better than to test that load of BS
  • 1 0
WTF are these guys thinking? All it takes to make a bike fly is 50kmph and a 4' booter... What a waste of a bike frame.

Bicycle out floor don't are bicycle.
