Northwave may be best known for their flashy cross-country race shoes, but they've recently begun to broaden their focus to include the rapidly growing enduro racing side of the sport. Last year's signing of Cedric Gracia made it clear they were serious about expanding their lineup, and it wasn't long before the French wildman began offering his input on what the ideal enduro race shoe would look like. The Enduro Mid is the result, an SPD compatible shoe that's designed to be stiff and supportive, but with flex built into the toe area to make walking less awkward.

Footwear aimed at enduro racing and all-mountain riding needs to offer more protection than what's typically found in an XC shoe, and to that end the Enduro Mid's toe box is reinforced to keep those little piggies safe, while the inner cuff is cut high enough to cover the anklebone to help protect rider's ankles from smashing or rubbing on their cranks.

Pulling up on the dial releases the tension on the cable, and rotating it adds tension.

Rather than using laces, the Enduro Mid features Northwave's Speed Lace Winch 2 (SLW2) system, where a dial can be turned to either increase or decrease the amount of tension provided by the cable lace. There's also a velcro closure at the top of the shoe to further fine tune the fit.

Michelin rubber is used at the shoe's toe and heel, with a wide flat area at the center of the shoe for easy clipping in and out.

Traction for those off-bike excursions is provided by a dual compound rubber from Michelin that uses a tread pattern inspired by the company's mountain bike tires. The area around the cleat is relatively flat in order to make it as easy as possible to clip in and out, as well as providing a wide platform to rest on the pedal even if the cleat isn't completely engaged. Extra cushioning has been built into the heel area of the shoe to provide shock absorption in the event of an emergency landing.

The Enduro Mid is expected to be available in March 2016, with a retail price of $160 Euro. There will also be a more basic model without the ankle protection for $149 Euro.

Hey, Cedric, what time is it?
  • 48 0
 Time for a 3rd watch.
  • 6 4
one is a watch/ heart rate monitor
  • 2 5
 one is a apple watch
  • 18 1
 ADVENTURE TIME!
  • 4 2
the only other person that I've seen in media wear 2 watches is Maradona, is it an ego thing perhaps?
  • 3 0
@Narro2 maradona wears those watches to pay off his tax debts, no?

both are great characters. Love it. Two watches!
  • 7 1
 its beer o'clock in canada
  • 4 2
I know where the third watch is.... (it's an Omega Semenmaster)
  • 1 0
Different time zones, I'm guessing... or he's just stylish.
  • 1 0
Not true, Hans Rey often used to wear two watches when he was sponsored by Swatch and they were pushing the 'colours of Benetton' plastic casual watches.
  • 4 0
If you actually looked at the picture in high resolution you would realise that he only has one watch on (the Apple Watch) and has a leather bracelet with a large silver buckle on it on the other arm. Just saying.
  • 1 0
@mattwragg how about you help us on this lol is he wearing two watches or no?

Can someone please design Cedric Gracia a new logo so I don't feel like I'm riding around in Coco Chanel shoes.

Well, it's time for my usual complaint about these type of shoes again. Dear Northwave, Five Ten, Shimano and chums, start making these mid weight in bigger sizes. In the last decade I have spent well over £1000 on pairs of size 15 Vans that I have sent to a guy who resoles climbing shoes to get Stealth soles fitted to them so I can have a decent pair of MTB shoes that protect my ankles and aren't Sidi or Bont xc shoes that offer feet no protection from rocks and crank arms. They're great, but I can't clip in on them.
.
I haven't rode clipped in for eleven years now because my feet are bigger than the shoes any of you sell. The market is there, one of you has to take the plunge and sell some of these shoes to galumphing Sasquatches like me. I've got the money, I'll buy a pair, if I like them I'll buy four more pairs in case you take them out of production, make them special order only and charge another twenty five percent, it's all fine, just MAKE THE DAMNED SHOES IN MY SIZE.
  • 4 5
 I believe sidi makes some
  • 5 1
Read the post mate. Sidi makes road shoes with toe studs. I have a pair of Dominators, they're great shoes for cyclocross, but offer precisely no grip and no protection when you're riding properly off road. Useless for hike a bike or uneven ground, no ankle coverage at all and a toe box that lets you feel every little rock strike. . Like I said, nobody but nobody makes mid weight mtb shoes in my size. Something like these Northwaves or AM45s simply don't exist above a 12 or 13 if you're lucky. Still, I have lots of Vans Skinks kicking around, so it's not all bad.
  • 6 0
my bad, I didn't see the sidi comment in your original post.
  • 2 0
Its the same deal with ski and snowboard boots. The market is there but its no where near big enough to justify the costs of manufacturing the larger sizes. It sucks but that's usually the justification they use.

@fix-the-spade... I've got size uk14 feet and 5-10 make shoes that fit. I've got the minnar signature spd shoe and a pair of freerides. I know your pain though... Go into a shoe shop and ask if they do a size 14 and the reply is normally "we might have a 12?". Yeah, thanks, reaaaaallly helpful. Are you a uk15 then? Worth trying the biggest 5-10's if you can find a pair.
  • 2 0
@bigtim Yup I'm a UK 15. 14 wides can just about be squeezed into, but a normal 14's no good.
@scott-townes. There is a wonderful German company called Strolz who make big ski boots. Salomon do as well if you pester the distributors enough, not that I've ever done that...
  • 1 0
haha there are rare exceptions, yeah. I've had to deny so many people because their foot was so big. Its almost as bad as being an adult that wears 120 flex 24.5 boots... impossible to resell.
  • 1 0
@bigtim Are the minaars sized as a UK 14 or are they just big 13's??
  • 15 2
 It looks like... hell.
  • 10 1
Honestly...Those are pretty sweet! I may consider them when my 2FO lites are worn out. Glad to see products like this for the Enduro market.
  • 6 0
I'm down. The CG even looks like Nike's ACG, which I loved. I'll get past the hole under the heel. Shove a watch in it or whatever. Dude wears two watches to keep track of all your girlfriends, by the way.
  • 10 1
 What the f*ck is that?
  • 5 0
 No man... WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOSE
  • 3 0
Technically there is only one item being shown. The left show could be awesome :p
  • 1 0
Yeh, I looked at the first picture (only one shoe). I couldn't bare to look at another.
  • 5 0
I volunteer to test them during this winter's El Nino. I know how to write. I'm really hard on S-- and wear size 45.
  • 5 2
The shoe looks nice, if I ran clipless I would definitely consider this. High inside ankle protection plus quick lace up without a mess
  • 2 1
I'm excited to see another mid-top SPD shoe.

In looking at the bottom of the shoe it looks like the cleat cannot be moved forward or backward but that may just be a removable rubber cover.

Does anyone have info on whether the cleats can be moved?
  • 4 0
I can confirm that's just the removable cover.
  • 2 0
I'm thinking pretty badass and well though out (if you don't agree complain to CG). the concern for me would be what is all that bling bling going to look like once dirty & ragged?
  • 1 0
I already wear the NorthWave Dolomites and I'm really convinced by them. These ones don't really bring anything new, except the design, the CG signature, which are secondary details. The Michelin sole is great, as well as the ankle protection, comfort, the lace system, etc... The Dolomites already do the job I think.
  • 4 0
I'd be embarrassed to ride with those on
  • 3 1
Some of you people are never satisfied. These shoes look AMAZING compared to a vast majority of shoes available. NW Ill take 2 pairs please!!
  • 1 0
Northwave was my best shoes ever so confortable and durable. This one looks nice dont loke that sttange Cedric green but anyway a love it. The sole looks amazing and confortable
  • 2 1
enduro shoes ppppffffttttttt what the actual hell ! they are just normal riding shoes, what makes them different other then the legendary CG is holding them in his hand. really mtb industr !?!
  • 1 0
5.10's Kestrel fully blew apart on Day 2 from hike-a-biking..sole pulled away from cleat area big time..hope these are a valid answer
  • 13 11
 enduro shoes? hahaha.

Wait, you're serious? Wait one moment while i laugh even harder!
  • 7 1
five ten has a DH shoe.....
  • 2 1
 enduro approved
  • 11 1
Any funnier than DH or XC shoes?
  • 2 3
much funnier but not as funny as clown shoes or Crocs
  • 3 1
by clown shoes, do you mean the ones with the individual toes? Those are gruesome and no one should wear them unless they just lost a bet.
  • 3 1
shoes that clowns wear, big red toe
  • 2 0
Wooooo I didn't know I can not wear one pair of shoes for all my riding.
  • 9 9
no clue why they make such ugly crap. would it be possible for someone in the field of MTB apparel to have gone to design school rather than just hiring friends, bros, intern stoners, and visually impaired people? YUCK
  • 9 2
Each to their own, I think its the best pair of MTB Shoes i've seen in a while, most look like special needs shoes !
  • 1 0
 clip clip shoes
  • 1 1
Nice to see the offset cleat attachment. Theoretically it enables a wider stance on the pedal. I need a wide Q factor which is a big reason I use flats. I prefer my feet more outboard.
  • 2 0
I run aa couple washers on the pedal threads to push the pedals out a bit. Been doing it for 20 years and never had a problem.
  • 3 0
Reminds me of when Homer designed a car
  • 1 0
Nice, but white + dirt... not good... a better color scheme and I'm sold...
  • 1 0
Brah, just dye em with that kahuku mud. Pretend em was brown from the start!
  • 1 0
 Kahuku mud! Hahahahaha.
  • 2 0
Were these designed at Lego Land?
  • 3 1
Needs more logos and a bigger sole.
  • 1 0
 brilliant.
  • 1 0
Looks ok-ish. But if I would ride clipless, I would still prefer Mavic or Shimanos.
  • 1 1
why so much time to release that shoe??
I want one in 43 euro or 9 US yesterday... Wink
  • 5 4
I like the shoe but hate the cg and Michelin on it
  • 4 2
I think the same, the shoe it has an incredible design but both logos fuck it up.
  • 2 1
 Theres another (better) colorway available
  • 1 2
Ever since switching to Northwaves I've enjoyed riding so much more. Super comfortable and very well-built. I have a pair of nirvanas that are 2 years old and in great shape.
  • 1 0
Those look nice!!!!!! I'll try a pair!!!
  • 1 0
 those are cute.
