Graham Agassiz on Evil Bikes for 2019

Jan 24, 2019 at 15:47
by Mike Kazimer

Graham Agassiz will be riding for Evil Bikes in 2019, a move that comes after announcing the end of his 12 year run with Kona earlier this year. At the moment, Evil don't have a dedicated DH bike in their lineup, although with Aggy on board it wouldn't be surprising to see that change. In any case, expect the high-flying Canadian to unleash plenty of wild bike antics this season.

Aggy wipping to the moon. Black Sage 2018.

Aggy has quite the Following, I wonder how much Evil was Offering him. Something about this just seems right, though, it must be his Calling in life...

Good to see the Pinkbike comment section pun-a-thons alive and well, glad they remain Undead.

@NoahColorado, I wreckon that the puns will never end among this faction of bike nerds.

I Wreckon it didn't take a lot of convincing, Evil and Aggy make eachother a Little Betterer
  • 5 3
@NoahColorado: although Evil killed the undead, that wheelsize was caught up by insurgent offerings. Hope they put a black Ribbon on it.
  • 5 4
Aggy has a Sovereign ability on two wheels and should usher in an era of Canadian Imperialism.

hopefully he's got more spare frames than he does tearoffs
  • 16 13
I wonder if I hold the record, 290km and the rear triangle failed. No warranty. Evil bikes are the worst bike company I've ever had the misfortune to deal with. Fucking cowboys.
  • 11 9
came here to say this, with Evil's great reputation of "cracking" DH bikes I can't wait to see what he does to them
  • 17 10
evil had issues in the past but they fixed that and you are speaking without owning or riding their newer bikes. dont be a troll...
  • 8 7
@gunslingger: Well what I seen about them fixing it was ignoring everyones warranty claims and moving on to make good enduro bikes
  • 18 2
going on the same evil bike 4 years now, in rowdy PNW year round riding and not a single issue. Since they moved carbon manufacturing to the same plant Santa Cruz uses they've been as solid as...well, a Santa Cruz.

Anyone who'd rather piss on Evils past than ride their bikes is their loss quite frankly Wink
  • 9 4
Same thing happened to me, cracked my frame under normal riding conditions and within their stated warranty period and they refused to replace the frame. I'll never buy evil again no matter what people say about them these days.

50/50 on a 40ft stepdown. Cracked the swingarm on my wreckoning. Evil gave me kudos for riding out of it and a fresh new swingarm. I’ve heard the horror stories but they did me right!

Just bring back the undead, sickest DH bike even after so many years of it being "dead"! Shit wasn't Filip Polc racing street DH on a undead up until 2017 even though they stopped making them in 2013?
  • 10 2
From what I hear, Pacific Cycles still has about 200 undead frames hanging up in the warehouse. If you send someone over there you might be able to find one or two that are straight.
  • 3 2
 @jaame: savage!
  • 1 0
 Double post
  • 11 1
@WAKIdesigns: Sorry I meant Revolt frames, not Undead.

Listening to people in the know, that design puts an obscene amount of stress through some pretty tiny moving parts. It's no surprise they all broke.

My friend bought a Revolt. When it broke they made him pay the crash replacement price to trade up to a carbon Undead. Then the aluminium part coming out of the carbon at the front of the swingarm started cracking all around. He was told hey, don't worry. It's not structural.

I couldn't believe it. Total bag of wank that bike. And the Revolt too. I'm no expert but that design looks fundamentally the same today as it has always been. I wouldn't buy one, no matter how many five star reviews it got.
  • 2 0
That happened with mine too and was told they wouldn’t make another DH bike as they can’t sell enough @jaame:
  • 1 0
@dirtyrig: he was racing what he had lol.
  • 4 4
@jaame: I can imagine how small bits would be problematic, and even if you made them ultra strong, the load would go to all bearings and axles. But at the same time DW uses small pieces a lot, even linkage in first Ibis and Turners had small links, and not all of them fail - so it may have been crappy materials. Evil ordering small bits and not being treated seriously by the manufacturer, who could have been an ahole. What I mean is, I don't know, and cannot bother keeping it in my head. I won't buy an Evil because it is expensive as new and too rare to buy on second hand market.
  • 2 0
@dirtyrig: I wish I still had mine it was the best bike I ever had except.... 418 reach in xl wasn’t ideal but such a sick bike
  • 3 0
Difficult to release a DH bike today... more even if it's 27.5. But best luck anyway! Surprise us.
  • 1 0
@Mondbiker: Maybe, but the dude had sponsors knocking at his door, but still did not want to let go of his undead and did you see what he put that bike through and it took it?

probably more of a freeride bike. my guess is less than 200mm of travel and lots of ramp up.

Weakest bikes on the market. Weakest warranty on the market.
  • 14 5
Evil might have had bad customer warranty support in the past, but they have been nothing but great for me
  • 24 4
 @Mntneer:
They stitched me up good mate.
Brand new Insurgent frame lasted 2 months before it snapped. All they offered was a replacement swing arm for $1000.
There warranty & bikes aren’t worth there weight in shit. f*ck EVIL
  • 3 0
@cavanagh-88: crash replacement swing arms shouldn't be anywhere near that much. Unfortunately, I'm assuming that it has something to do with import duties
  • 9 3
 @Mntneer:
I was spewing because all they offered was a $1000 swing arm, when they should have been giving it to me for free.
Piss poor on there behalf.
Every time we see a evil out on the trails we cringe & feel sorry for the poor bastard riding it
  • 1 1

  • 12 0
@fracasnoxteam: The best warranty is the one you never need.
  • 1 0
Haha. Mine's okay, but I tried calling them, and got nowhere. Better than nothing. I had a Norco 5Hun frame, and the headtube was ovalized, and chainstay damaged, so I was just looking for the closest thing I could find.
  • 1 1
@cavanagh-88: Most Bike companys Charge 1000USD for the whole frame- but hey they dont come in toothpaste torquiose.
  • 5 1
@Mntneer: Same here. I still have and ride my Undead without any issues and I'm 195 lbs. I also have The Following V1 as my do it all trail bike, I beat the shit out of that bike with no issues. I've been riding my Undead for 5 years and Following 4 years. Evil has also been so cool to deal with, when the undead was discontinued, I called them months later just to stock up on spair parts and they hooked me up! The guys went out of their way to search and scavange parts for me. I also have 3 other friends that have been on evils with no issues.
  • 5 2
@cavanagh-88: Could you provide me with your Evil Support Ticket number please? I'd like to track down what happened in your case.
  • 4 6
@EvilBikesCustomerService: you really think anyone still has their ticket number? That’s like McDonald’s asking me for my order number from an order they screwed up last year haha
  • 6 1

Keep safe or take photos of every important documents. That's what cloud is for.

@CaliCol: Umm ya they do. It's all based via email... which is searchable. Technology is a wonderful thing.
  • 21 4
Aggy is rad, evil not so much. "With the future of DH bikes uncertain" we decided to release an $8000 park bike. Also, please forget how we totally screwed over Cam Zink and proved we have zero integrity. PS if your frame breaks go to hell.

 What's the zink story?

Do you think he took the zero percent financing over Christmas, then?
  • 14 1
Can someone explain Evil’s pricing to me? They’re a direct-to-consumer brand whose builds seem to cost more than comparable builds from Yeti.

How do they get away with cutting out shops, and selling their bikes for more than the competition? What am I missing?
  • 6 2
Extremely small production numbers drive up cost.
  • 11 4
Especially surprising given that approximately 100% of their first few models ripped themselves apart because of stresses on that totally awesome on paper linkage

Why are readers so thirsty for a PB review of an Evil bike?

Bike Mag's Bible has had an Evil bike in each of the last 4 years; their reviews are industry leading and video formated on that neato website YouTube.

PB's reviews are fresh territory for the new mtb snob game of pick a seat angle and chain stay length and be a dick about. That 77 deg seat angle is the only game in town...until next week 77.5 deg, woah.

JP Sears needs a new vid on bike snobs like the trend trumpeters that are most PB reviewers.

This is a great match, go Aggy! If Evil really does push a new DH bike they’d be idiots to have it anything less than perfect. I have a Following and it’s legit, but everyone I ever talk to seems to know about the old skeletons in Evil’s closet.

  • 1 1
Have you ever heard that up in Canada some has managed to bread mini hippo's and they are keeping them as pets? Don't believe everything you read on the internet, but if you do, that's your business. The fact is Evil stands behind our products that we make and nine out of ten times you read a horror story it's because someone is upset with our warranty assessment. In the cases above, I'm still tracking down one because the warranty was handled by the shop of purchase and in the other case there was impact damage and modification of the frame itself. Evil provides any owner of an Evil bike with crash replacement parts at an attainable price. If you wreck and send your bike through a rock garden, we have your back with in-stock and ready to ship front and rear triangles. Warranty doesn't cover user error. When you crash your car, do you chase the car company for a warranty?

  • 14 3
@hitechredneck: word on the street is that bike companies do indeed need to pay for a review.
  • 4 4
@mikekazimer: it kind of sounds like if companies dont send PB a bike to review, then you would have to go purchase one yourself in order to do a review. That doesnt sound very possible. Perhaps everyone should think about that before they yell about not reviewing this or that bike.

I do agree though, it would be nice to see some of the newer evil bikes reviewed, and im not sure why evil wouldnt do that, since this is a decent sized audience.
  • 5 2
The anti establishment mentality may be to blame here. I kind of dig it from a small company.
