Mitch: "What? That new C'Dale has two shocks!"
Mechanic: "We gotcha covered..."

"Mitch Ropelato's bike may or may not have something on it we aren't supposed to see yet"

Wacked out new grips in red to match his forks...?
  • + 16
So is Mitch Ropelato racing? If so, why isn’t he on the fantasy downhill list?
  • + 47
 Mitch and Sram: "No photos!"

Pinkbike: "Snaps photos, posts it, highlights that you're not supposed to take the photo."

journalism at its best
  • + 33
Put a "No photos" sign on publicly displayed bike, what could possibly go wrong...
  • + 9
 Whooosh
  • + 11
It must be that custom Lefty suspension grip....
  • + 29
A plastic bike painted to look like metal... gotcha...
  • + 4
YT have been doing it for years. All the top carbon bikes painted silver and aluminium bikes painted matte black.
  • + 28
So this stuff is what I'll be using in 2025
  • + 19
LOL, no, by that time there will be new standards for everything. Just wait until next week when 2022 season products get launched.
  • + 1
Most good gravity focused eBikes are already coming with Mixed wheels sizes for a few years now. Funny to see DH now doing the same. Mixed wheel sizes have been used for decades on offroad Motocrycles, I think the same laws of physics seem to work with the speeds you get on DH bikes and eBikes too.
  • + 24
XTR brakes on DH bike? 29 and 27,5 mixed wheels? New seadon, new surprises! Love it!
  • + 85
 'Tis the seadon
  • + 0
this isn't anything that new, some downhill riders have been using them over the outdated saints for a while.
  • + 42
 @lneelands: Id's de allergy seadon...
  • + 3
 @lneelands: lol ... harsh
  • + 3
 UltimateDHCountry!
  • + 4
@Lewis-pick: I believe they used XTR levers and Saint calipers
  • + 19
Wasn't Bruno crying about 29 inch wheels not so long back...
  • + 10
Yeah, but now he's on one of those 'Wheel Slut' bikes
  • + 11
Yeah now he’s gonna have to pick two wheel sizes and ‘be a dick about it’
  • + 1
@Waldon83: If that were the case, I would prefer the bigger one in the back. Tastes vary, I suppose...
  • + 17
I just drooled all over my keyboard over that chrome paint job on the Canyon Sender.
  • + 1
Fastest bike down the track so far too.
  • + 14
 Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm tool kit.
  • + 12
That photo of fresh brake pads followed by the one of oil soaked foam rings made me cringe hard
  • + 9
Anyone notice how Finn and Loic are on DHF for the front tire with blacked out logos?
  • + 11
S doesn't make their DH tire in 29
  • + 3
@hamncheez: this is true, but I find it odd that they don’t have some somewhere. Due to the fact that I can’t imagine Jared and Curtis having run anything but DH casing tires.
  • + 6
@Emkpow: The Enduro guys run their 'Blak dnmd" casing or however they spell it. There are still no 29 DH casing tires. Hence the Sharpie.
  • + 2
@btjenki: I think they should develop the sharpie idea. Someone who does all the kits and custom graphics must be pretty handy with a paint pen. Why not get custom sidewall art over the top of the blacked out logos?
  • + 5
I’d really like to know more about this Specialized bike, specifically why they moved away from the ‘old’ / current design. It seems like the only benefit this frame would have is a lower leverage ratio to the shock, but it seems like a lot of additional complexity to achieve that. Also -as a matter of personal preference- a shift away from a cleaner aesthetic.
  • + 9
@Protour explained to them how the old/current design was responsible for the continuing conflict in both Syria and Yemen.
  • + 2
They've basically returned to a revised Demo 9/8/7.
  • + 1
First off, a high end mtb product lifecycle is only about 3 years (which its been). Second off, the pivot placement on the seatstays of the old design was very flexy, since there was no seatstay bridge or through-axle for that location. They had to beef up the thruaxle for the hub. Even then it was the too short, short chainstays that made it still workable. Finally, it just wasn't a very good design. the main pivot was too low, requiring too light a compression tune to keep it from getting hung up on the bumps. This would be made worse by a 29 inch rear wheel, which would require more BB drop to keep the same BB height.

TL;DR: It was a poor design that is due for a product refresh anyways.

I was wondering about the ground. Thanks for that tech sheet! Also, Takes photo of bike with a don't take photos sign lol
  • + 58
I am also interested in the ground. Has anyone seen anything dead to roll in yet during track walk? Can you dig in the rock garden? Are there any puddles? I'm also curious about the pit trash-can check. Were any sandwiches discarded halfway through or perhaps a donut or bagel?
  • + 3
 @IamTheDogEzra: needed that. Thanks.
  • + 8
Very nice but, does your derailleur protect itself and have personalized shift assignments?
  • + 46
No but it is very sensitive and misunderstood.
  • + 3
 Since now.
  • + 8
Pivot's new pedal-assist bike looks sick!
  • + 4
Loic's paint job is pretty dam cool, IMO. It's pretty amazing the detail and hard work that goes into some of these bikes paint. Would love to see more WWII plane themes though. The last of the Doolittle Raiders just passed away....would make a great tribute theme.....
  • + 4
@andy9 The photo of the fresh oil and seals is a masterpiece. The lighting and colors. [Insert 100% emoji]
  • + 5
Enjoying the 5S toolkit coverage. Tech Randoms or Gemba walk?
  • + 1
 Was thinking ‚5S‘ too
  • + 5
Yo John Hall - nice pens -whatchu write?
  • + 2
Any know the brand on the t-handle wrenches Gwin's mechanic is using? I think I sold my t-handles in a garage sale next week. I'll need a new set.
  • + 1
 Powerbuilt.
  • + 1
I just have to say how good it feels to see that our beloved Stevie has not been forgotten. Props to you Loic. #longlivechainsaw
  • + 3
gotta love that #longlivechainsaw patch on Loics sled
  • + 2
It's interesting how the new Demo looks so much like the old ones after a pretty dramatic change with the last model
  • + 3
Anyone notice anything unusual on Ropelato’s bike?
  • + 47
It's got that prototype handlebar spring on it.
  • + 6
 @slumgullion: vibration isolation
  • + 7
New (but unannounced) X0 DH, but then that's been seen all over for months...
  • + 2
Yeah, why never seen such suspension grips.
  • + 1
@vid1998: The pic was taken too early, they were just preparing to install the second shock.
  • + 3
@slumgullion: everyone is playing catch up with Cannondale
  • + 2
@davidrobinsonphoto: thought the logo looked a bit different
  • + 1
 @rockyflowtbay: their bike is insane
  • + 1
Anyone else have to do a double take on the Mondraker mechanic thinking it was Kirt Voreis??
  • + 1
UCI Inspector: No Photos?! Product under embargo?!
Mitch: It's just an ebike, a prototype Wink
  • + 1
John Hall with the selection of sharpies for all the "Kenda" tyres Gwin will run this year?
  • + 1
Anyone think the new Specialized design looks very similar to a banshee legend?
  • + 1
Dont know if its been said already, but the new Demo Proto, reminds me of the Banshee Legend.......
  • + 2
How do the mechanics bed in brakes before their riders drop in?
  • + 9
Wet them and rub them together
  • + 3
Get your new pads. Put some water on them. Rub the braking surfaces together until they start to grip. It isn't a full bed in but I find the brakes switch on very quickly after doing this. Another way is to ride the bike with the brakes on so they get really hot then throw some water onto the brakes to set the compound. I prefer the first method, less rapid heating and cooling of parts and I don't have to leave the shed!
  • + 1
I was wondering the same, it takes me at least two runs to break them in (sounds like an oxymoron, but you get the idea).
  • + 6
2 runs to bed them in ?

You can do it in 300m of gentle or even flat gradient, bedding pads in is not just riding your trails like normal until they start working.
  • + 2
Interesting to see Magura MT5 pads instead of the MT7 4 single pads.
  • + 3
 @panchocampbell: Yer doin it wrong.
  • + 1
I wonder the same...Magura bed in time has to be worst I've tested before and boy they have to be right but when they are...really good. Then try them with the trickstuff pads...ufff
  • + 2
When it says 'no photos', I take as many photos as possible!
  • + 1
I like the 100 per cent RedBull goggle/helmet picture. Pretty relevant.
  • + 1
 Love the ‘no photos!’ lol
  • + 1
 Looks like a Banshee Legend.
  • + 1
Still no good picture of Bruni‘s new bike
  • + 1
Thanks for the UCI contact info!
  • + 1
 No tubeless MAVIC wheels?
  • + 1
 Are tree roots considered "wood"?
  • + 21
What do you consider roots are made of?
  • - 1
@Lasse2000: Well roots I guess. You don't see a bunch of roots at a sawmill
  • + 2
Yes, and it's often stronger than the wood that's above ground. Many trees have as much below the surface as they do above it. Trust me, I remove tree stumps for a living!
  • + 3
@Lasse2000: It is a bit like looking at a field of livestock and saying it contains meat. When they say wood, I think many of us picture lumber not roots
  • + 8
 @Lasse2000: A duck?
  • + 3
@djm35: Trust him, he knows wood. Wink
  • - 1
Came to see if the latest Specialize Demo looks like a Trek Session... confirmed. It looks like a Trek Session. Wink
  • + 0
 That's not Loic's stunt double - it's just a guy with a mask !!
  • + 1
 Doug Hatfield is GOD!
