Green river has a long history embedded with danger, action, and adventure. Well before the days of Butch Cassidy, the wild travellers, and the natives the land has been challenged by personal motivation and unforgiving terrain.

Though today’s travelers are generally not outlaws or treasure hunters, they share the same reminiscent characteristics as adventurers of the past. The main difference being that historic adventurers focused more on self-preservation as motivation, while today’s self-motivated athletes manage to continue to push the boundaries with drive and mental fortitude. Could it be that internal drive and the need to push further can outweigh one's motivation to survive? Or is it that a mind uninterrupted by the need to survive has the capacity to visualize and execute the previously thought impossible?

For Morpheus athlete Mitch Chubey, Green River is a place to find one’s self while pushing personal boundaries. The timing often provides reference and perspective; since his annual trip generally follows the Red Bull Rampage, he views the harsh landscape with different eyes.

This cliff he stands on is not perceived as a step away from death more so a platform for a remarkable view. The jagged and serrated rocks on the descent are not obstacles of impalement or decapitation but rather shadowing and backdrop for a unique canvas.

Liked it, but would have loved to see some full lines and less quick cuts. I know, we're spoiled here in media land.

Utah is a bikers dream. There is that perfect terrain you seek in Utah somewhere in that state. There is also something you have never ridden and like no where else on earth. This state was made for mountain biking. When and if you ever get tired of this state then its time to go to North Carolina.

Once in a while. These edits depress me. It's a reminder of how I can't bunny hop more than 6 inches let alone keep my front wheel from landing sideways off small jumps.

Came to the comments to say the same thing. One of the best single clips I've seen in a video in a long time. Great creativity.

Cool peace of downhilll but I have two questions. What the heck are headphones doing in his ears? Of course it is personal but when I ride my bike (especially in such beautiful places) I want to hear every sound of the wind. And second question - is it something with my laptop screen but sometimes the picture is narrow. Does anybody else have the same thing?

i dont know much about filming, but were those stretched shots done on purpose? Why would you want it to seem stretched?
  • 2 0
Those shots are done with amino morphic lenses. They take a 16:9 shot and compress/strech them. They create a lot of sun flairs in the footage.

@mitch1616: thanks for replying, I didn't know about anamorphic lenses, but looking into them a bit, do they have to be stretched in post? Or else you get this sort of stretched look
  • 1 0
I meant be edited in post for it not to have this sort of stretched look.

@Steezwhip: im not 100% sure but the lens cuts the frame, and widens the aspect ratio. to 21:9 or something. Shelby, the guy who filmed this, is really into them and has a few.
