10 for 10 interview series

LOIC BRUNI

Age: 20
Nationality: France
2014 rank: 10th
Experience: 2 years elite
Current Team: Lapierre Gravity Republic

Slotting into a promising 4th place at the very first stop of 2014 in South Africa, Bruni created an appetizing performance sandwich, finishing 4th once again on home soil at the final round in Meribel. In-between the podium bread was a real mixed bag of results as the young Frenchman went all or nothing between the tape, week in, week out. Perhaps the whole season would have played out quite differently if he'd stayed rubber-side through those inside-line, marbles of Leogang, but 'malheureusement' it wasn't to be. After the first show of cards on an international stage at Crankworx Rotorua and Bruni scooping all the chips into his corner, it seems a WC win this season is all but inevitable for Lapierre's hardest hitter. And with the first round headed to the well-rehearsed French climes of Lourdes, you'd be madder than a box of frogs to bet against him. Time to find out more. Let's speak to the man himself...

Loic Bruni happy to be in the 4th spot with his new Red Bull sponsor and a long career of podiums in his future..

PB: 1: Where and how have you been spending your off-season?

bigquotesMainly at home in Cagnes Sur Mer - I love where I live! Also two weeks in San Diego, California and Queenstown at the moment - Loic

PB: 2. What was the highlight of your 2014 season and why was it so significant to you?

bigquotesMeribel. I had some bad luck up until then, but that race was amazing. So many spectators and my family and close friends came. Being back on the box there was awesome - Loic

Loic and Blenki are an absolute force together out here in the woods. Expect any kind of top result from the Lapierre double act tomorrow.

PB: 3. Was there a moment or period you considered to be your season ‘low’ and for what reason?

bigquotesYeah, after Windham I was pissed. I had another bad final run, so I looked back over my season and realized it started well, but I crashed in a lot of my timed runs. Leogang and Windham are tracks which suit me really well, but I crashed and got a flat tire. I felt like I missed big opportunities - Loic

PB: 4. Are there changes you are looking to make to your approach mentally or physically for 2015?

bigquotesWho can say none!? - Loic

2014 World Cup 4 Leogang

PB: 5. How have you split your time between ‘on’ and ‘off’ the big bike training?

bigquotesI've been busy between uni and training, but I really enjoyed my off season, I've been really relaxed. I hit the gym with my coach, rode a lot of BMX, table trainer and all mountain and a bit of road riding but I really don't enjoy it as a training, just chilling on it... It's cool. I tried to improve my riding on a moto because I'm not so good at it - Loic

PB: 6. When inspiration has run low lately, to whom or what have you turned to kick your motivation levels up a gear?

bigquotesI watch some sick riding videos and give myself a talking to! - Loic

Loic Bruni is looking on point here in Leogang. He certainly isn t having much trouble in the woods sections. He s looking loose and quick.

PB: 7. What bit of kit are you looking forward to using most at the races?

bigquotesMy new One Industries race pant - Loic

PB: 8. Which rider do you see as the biggest threat to the 2015 title?

bigquotesJosh Bryceland - Loic

Loic Bruni has been on fire since the middle of last season. Could this be the weekend he finally grabs the big win that everyone has been waiting for

PB: 9. Which race or single moment of the coming season are you most excited for?

bigquotesEvery moment. I love being in the season! - Loic

PB:10. Complete the sentence: ‘I won’t be racing a single World Cup without....'

bigquotes... my brain - Loic

Loic Bruni leading the charge for DH racing this season just prior to the first World Cup and proving he s got a fire in the belly.

I'm hoping for full on Beast Mode Loic this year. WAR BRUNI!

I think we are gonna see a Bruni vs Neko battle this season , both on the cusp of winning one of these events
  • 8 3
Neko is a dark horse for sure. I think he pulled a lot of confidence from his chainless run. He should run chainless at all the steep events, it clearly works for him.
  • 7 2
I think he realised his true potential with that run , if he could of pedaled for less than 10 seconds on that middle fire road transfer he would of won.

And Loic has been on the brew for a while !

About half of the other podium/winner riders are injured , or coming back from a big injury , I really think either Loic or Neko will do it.

Steve Peat is going to win. I'm so confident that I put down 20 Gs with my bookie.

Hoping for some good worldcups with these hungry young guys. Brosnan might also be a contender.
  • 5 1
Neko,Danny Hart, Brook MacDonald,Loic as well. So many young guys ready to take over. The usual guys guys are going to have a hard time. Like last year. No one would have put money on Josh taking the overall at the start of the season. Same as Steve Smith a few years back.
  • 2 3
No me and my dad every year at the start of the season say who we think will win it after race one. We never bet on it but, he predicted that Steve Smith would win it 2 years ago and I said Josh Bryceland last year. It may be coincidence or we are good at predicting but this year i can see big things for Brendan Fairclough or Sam Hill.

Sorry that comment was for @scott-townes
  • 2 0
Duh, with stem cells and zombie ACLs, he's going to be stronger than ever.
  • 2 0
Lizard skinz prototype acl replacement I heard?
  • 1 0
 omg sponsored ACL surgeries.... genius.

Connor Fearon is hungry and looking pretty dialed - he could be a good guy for a fantasy team.

  • 15 6
I think as for now it says 83% on it...
  • 1 0
 Yes yes yes!!!
  • 2 0
Its a Bell, check the mouthguard on the third pic
  • 1 0
Yeah most of the pics are a bell. But in the last pic and I think the first as well as on his and a few other riders social media pages they have been wearing the new 100% helmet.

So humble and talented, been following him since Junior, reminds me of Sebastian Loeb in some way...Would like to spend some time with him (no homo)
Never loose the grip and enjoy the riding. Don't get crazy for winning your first WC Loic! Trying too hard may make you do things that interfere with what you have trained!

My 10 questions for Loic Bruni:

1. Which Red Bull athlete would you like to finger most? (Male or Female, no haters here)
2. In your opinion which mountain bike product is the biggest load of shit ever? (we all know its 650b!)
3. On a scale of 1 to 10 how much does your accent work on the ladies?
4. Who's the biggest tit on the WC circuit?
5. Do you ever get tired of always having to promote bikes/kit when in fact they're actually balls?
6. Do your eyebrows have magical powers?
7. Like many others, have you boned Tahnee Seagraves? (Based on rumours!)
8. Which one of the following items would you take to a deserted island and why? Pack of bubble gum, a table leg or a picture of a young David Hasselhoff?
9. Boobs or ass?
10. Would you rather shag a hot babe with the face of Mr. Bean or a guy with the face of Kate Upton?
  • 1 0
@havefaith nothing like getting some good mileage out a post! People don't like it as much on this thread though
  • 6 2
Loic keeps it real! " l watch some sick riding video's and give myself a talking to!"
  • 6 1
As Blinky said "you will smoke these c*nts one day"
  • 2 1
Bruni, such a loose cannon. I really do think he is the future of DH, maybe a few more years before he really smashes it but its not far away. And I reckon a win is probably on the cards for 2015 - but there are lots of guys that can win!
  • 5 2
Yes saw same format earlier on life on bars for gnar bikepark which looks awesome
  • 1 1
I'm not having a go at all, I was just stating the obvious when "life on bars" do a article on 10-10 and pb does a v similar article in the same format and calls it the same! I just think come on boys show some originality.. that's the whole reason of me! I'm a fellow follower and feature reader like most on here
I thought if you can be so obvious of mirroring features ( not copying, before some idiot throws that at me) then I sh be allowed to have a say!
Then someone tells me to "simmer down" I mean come on really!!!
  • 7 3
 Breakthrough season for this kid
  • 5 2
Cant freakin wait, this could be the best season ever............11 days an countin down, too greatness!
  • 6 4
Loic tu va en gagner une cette année c' est sur et certain! !!
  • 1 0
What does this mean "rode a lot of BMX, table trainer and all mountain"

Table trainer?
  • 6 0
He puts his indoor trainer on a table. Makes it gnarlier.
  • 4 0
Ping pong. Very well kept secret among top tier athletes
  • 2 0
Oh, vous êtes où les Cousins ? Ca manque de Français ici.
Go Loic !
  • 3 0
 Ici et on craint degun!
  • 3 3
Nice feature , similar format to www.lifeonbars.co.uk/10-10-danny-wilson

Works well Wink
  • 1 0
Ha, it's a coincidence though, this series has been in the planning for a while...
  • 2 0
Lol I like it, gives readers what they need in a snapshot Wink
  • 1 4
Simmer down, why? I'm not having a go I am just making a valid point.......
I follow pb for its features, I follow dirt magazine for the same reason, I hardly ever comment but when I see and read a very similar article format on "lifeonbars"
Then I think it's worth a comment. I know it's hard to come up with new ideas all the time and if this is the a coincidence then at least the reader and the riders will win as they win ( as more riders will get coverage from 2 websites) and us the users will get to follow and read double the riders
Like I said before I'm not knocking you, just thought pinkbike was about originality
  • 1 1
he was at my local trails in san diego... too bad i left 3 hours before he got there. Frown
  • 2 5
 That intro paragraph tho...
