Kyle Strait's 'Wild West' Commencal FRS

Kyle Strait s Commencal
Kyle's running the unreleased SRAM brake calipers that we first saw on the World Cup DH circuit, along with a BlackBox RockShox Boxxer. He's also rolling on prototype Kenda tires - you can tell because they say so.

DJ Brandt's Commencal FRS

DJ Brandt s Commencal
DJ's one of just four riders running a coil shock this year. Air shocks have become more common, likely because it's easier to make them firm and progressive enough to deal with the massive impacts they'll be subjected to in the coming days.

Reed Boggs' Yeti SB165

Reed Boggs s Yeti
Bogg's Machine punk-inspired paint job is a sight to behold.

The 190mm fork has six volume spacers (the max allowed), and with the rebound set two clicks from fully closed. The story's the same with the shock - max volume spacers, rebound set two click from closed, and 250 psi.

William Robert's Norco Shore

William Robert s Norco
William's size medium Shore was painted by Fresh Paints of Whistler. The Suntour Rux fork has 110 PSI w/ 5 tokens and the rebound 90% closed, and the TriAir shock is inflated to 280 psi w/ 5 tokens and the rebound 90% closed. The Hutchinson tires are inflated to an extra-firm 42 psi.

Ethan Nell's YT Tues

Brett Rheeder's Commencal FRS

Brett Rheeder s Commencal

Rheeder, Brandon Semenuk, and Dylan Stark are all running single crown forks this year. In Rheeder's case, it's an Ohlins RXF38.
A custom link allows for a 27.5 / 26" wheel setup.

Alex Volokov's Rocky Mountain Slayer

Alex Volokov s Rocky Mountain
Alex is a rookie competitor, but he's no newcomer - he's been a digger at Rampage for the last seven years.

The paint job was done by Fresh Paints of Whistler, and pays homage to Jordie Lunn's famous "The snake went in the snake hole" quote.

Andreu Lacondeguy's Commencal FRS

Andreu Lacondeguy s Commencal

Andreu and Brett Rheeder both have their chainstays set in the short position, a feature that's not found on the current, stock version of the Commencal FRS.

Thomas Genon's Canyon Torque

Tommy G s Canyon
You know you've made it when you get tires with your name on the hot patch.

Jaxson Riddle's 'Suzuki' Transition TR11

Jaxson Riddle s Transition

Szymon Godziek's NS Fuzz

Custom painted NS Fuzz in 27 5 26 set up for 2022 Red Bull Rampage.

Custom painted NS Fuzz in 27 5 26 set up for 2022 Red Bull Rampage.

Tyler McCaul's GT Fury

T-Mac s GT
T-Mac's 'tally of 10' GT - for his 10 Rampage appearances.

Carson Storch's 'Bentley the Dog' Propain Spindrift

Carson Storch s Propain

Dylan Stark's 'Zebra' YT Tues

Dylan Stark s YT

Bar spin ready, and check out the extra-low brake lever position.

e*thirteen's new Helix aluminum cranks.
A 190mm RockShox Zeb is in place for all of Stark's trickery.

Kurt Sorge's 'Beach Life' Evil Insurgent

Kurt Sorge s Evil

Cam Zink's Devinci Spartan Aluminum

Cam Zink s Devinci

A Canadian-made frame with powerful German brakes from Trickstuff.

Tom Van Steenbergen's 'Notorious B.I.G.' Hyper

Tom Van Steenbergen s Hyper

Brandon Semenuk's Trek Session

What's your favorite bike from Red Bull Rampage 2022?

Tyler McCaul's GT Fury FTW - those polished forks are SOO late 90's early 00's Marz, love it.
  • 46 6
Yeah for sure. I think maybe the young bucks just don't know what they're looking at.

I like that he/they spent time on every piece of that bike. Most of the other bikes are frame paints and stock everything else.
  • 34 0
 And the old bmx logo!
  • 18 0
I was thinking "cool retro paint job" and then I saw the Monster fork, instant favourite. Love it!
  • 8 0
That there looks like a ball burnished frame. Turner and Long would be proud (I think).
  • 4 0
Agreed! My second would be Alex's Slayer. I bet that snake print looks so rad in the Utah sun.
  • 9 0
I had a couple favs on deck until I saw that GT. WINNER.
  • 2 0
is that and alloy Fury ? looks amazing!
  • 7 0
Anyone else think they did a poor job with pics and left out a lot on some of these bikes? Some pics seem a little rushed. For some reason I recall bettter covergae in past events
  • 3 0
GT flyer bmx with monster T’s what’s not to love!
  • 2 0
When I saw the old school GT logo I thought Gary Ellis was making a comeback.
  • 4 0
@onemanarmy: it’d be interesting to see whether in the age group *old enough to drool over early Zaskars when they were released* (=my own) the GT did indeed get the most votes.
  • 7 0
The Monster T replica wins it for me.
  • 2 0
@Eatsdirt: Indeed. GT sadly went downhill (no pun intended here) after Rich died.
  • 2 0
Awesome! Reminds me of my LTS 1, used all my financial aid to pay for that one.
  • 2 0
and a white logo maxxis on the back
  • 2 0
@fjm35: it'd be hard to convince me otherwise.
  • 1 2
 just not true..
  • 2 0
That GT logo reminds me of being a kid riding my GT BMX bike down my local mountain bike trails. What a cool throw back
  • 1 0
 Total Monster T energy.
  • 123 1
Not hating by why did so many people voted for Semenuk's bike? Puzzled...
  • 13 1
Because it looks like like a....
  • 183 3
 @IMeasureStuff: toilet wall?
  • 13 1
Like in politic: "The last one talking is right"
  • 73 0
Looks like most people have voted for their favourite rider instead of their favourite bicycle.

Because I think fancy paint is pointless
  • 5 0
Same, I just cannot process it
  • 29 0
Looks like plaster on a broken leg.
  • 10 1
Did Trek spend all the budget on his wages, nothing left for a paintjob? What's the story behind it Pinkbike?
  • 2 0
well, the conclusion is that we can have simmilar hype on our bikes with a frame painted like german taxi and black permanent sharpie... or maybe it is the rider? :-)
  • 10 1

Probably because it's a fun and unique one
  • 26 4
Blown away anyone voted for Semenuks bike, its just plain beige with some sharpie, so boring, obviously just fanboys voting
  • 2 13
flag beneyh (Oct 20, 2022 at 9:51) (Below Threshold)
 because its the coolest bike?
  • 4 1
Because his name was next to it. Period. Dude was too busy racing cars to GAF what his bike looked like.
  • 3 6
@onemanarmy: why is there so much hate on Semenuk? Like why are you hating on him because he also races rally? I guess athletes can't have other hobbies.
  • 5 0
@Mason-Walls: Don't see any hate there. You're reading what you want into that statement.

Dudes an animal. Love the guy. Personally and as a fan of his riding and driving. Why would I hate on the dude for smashing rally cars? I own 2 WRX's right now. Dudes crushing it.

Was just stating the facts. People put a check next to his name because they're a fan.
  • 5 0
@Mason-Walls: No hate on Semenuk for sure ! I'm always blown away by his riding skills, talents and all shown in his videos. I'm even more impressed by how good he is also in Rally, like WTF this guy is a weapon !
Now, to put it straight and raw, his bike paint scheme is sh@t, let's face the reality. Even more when comparing with the badass paint jobs you see above...
  • 1 1
It shows support from the homies. That sort of thing resonated with people you know. An expensive paint job is way out of reach for most.
  • 74 2
Couple of cool paint jobs... Couple of hideous ones.
  • 48 9
"It looks like a Session" just became the biggest insult you can hand out.

Poor Semenuk.
  • 6 0
100% of the votes went to the bikes that look like a session
  • 20 8
89% of these bikes are so hideous, they'd only be ridden by blind men. Color me impressed: I had no idea most of the field was riding the world's gnarliest features totally blind!
  • 17 13
@LokiTheCat: bad take. have fun riding your all black bike in your all black kit down some blue flow trails.
  • 6 0
@LokiTheCat: Bikes are fun. They should be fun to look at.
  • 3 0
The goal is to find the less cheesy bike among these... and it's not easy.
  • 48 1
Holy f*ck! T-MACS GT is left nut worthy! Just seeing that classic chrome and winged GT decal brings back some memories.
  • 43 0
Semenuk's bike looks like it passed out on the couch at a party and, everyone took turns Sharpie-ing goofy stuff on it.
  • 26 0
there must be a cock doodle somewhere on that bike :'D
  • 30 1
Was stoked to see Brett's bike on Instagram, but bummed to then see that a few folks are on essentially the exact same 'custom' paint scheme. Love to see all the stuff from FreshPaintsOfWhistler! True custom!
  • 28 0
Thanks! We’re stoked people are loving the work!
  • 4 0
@FreshPaintsofWhistler: cool paint on the North Shore!
  • 3 0
Commencal's paint looks like stickers? Looks like there are edges of those patterns
  • 39 11
This poll is a microcosm for the entire rampage event which has descended into a glorified popularity contest.
basically the most popular rider wins regardless of the quality of their run or in this case bike.
An article full of stunningly painted bikes and semenuk wins with a plain white bike with some sharpie on it.
much like last yes event where the popular guy one by doing next to nothing on 90% of the mountain followed by some flippy twirly nonsence on a jump so perfactly groomed it may as well have been made out of plywood.
  • 7 4
 That's sheep for ya...
  • 7 2
 Couldn't said it better.
Fanboyism at it's best/worst.
  • 5 1
nah... we are done with snake and leopard skin livery, a poska and a white frame is fresher...
  • 6 0
While I agree with you that the poll is a popularity contest, I don't think that warrant writing off semenuks run from last year as I remember being pretty impressed by it. Went ahead and rewatched just now, so I could have clarity countering what you consider next to nothing. He's got some super steep lines up top with a lot of exposure, a sketchy drop onto a lilly pad into a bigger drop, a clean toboggan on a cool looking hip, a barspin with a fairly high consequence, a massive backflip on a hip jump, and then a tailwhip on what looks to be a ~50 foot drop.

I think it's easy to dismiss the riding these guys do with how often you see it but very few people think about the difficulty difference between doing a bunny hop barspin vs a barspin over a 30 foot gap. Semenuk has gotten popular for a reason
  • 19 1
 Szymon Godziek's - NS Fuzz
  • 18 3
No one invited Fox to the party.
  • 41 0
Makes sense when fox moved all the non racers to marz.
  • 13 0
Looks like Nell has an unmarked Fox. Maybe lacks a current squish sponsor. Suntour are killing it on the other hand. Good for them.
  • 37 2
@sspiff: also they don't want any X2s exploding on camera.
  • 11 2
 Marz is fox
  • 1 0
 Ethan Nell's YT Tues
  • 11 3
The number of people in the comments who don't know Marz is rebranded Fox is too damn high.
  • 7 0
I voted for Alex Volokov because he clearly pays for his own shit. Note the 5 year old DHX2 on his slayer.
  • 3 1
@WaterBear: marz was bought by fox and share some tech but its not rebranded. Only there Transfer Dropper post is thr same. Fox moved all their freeriders to Marz. Thats why Rheeder left because he wanted to stay on fox so he packed up.
  • 3 2
@Jcolis1904: No...I think it's literally rebranded. Note that their DH fork happens to have 40mm stanchions and uses a grip damper.
  • 1 0
@sspiff: wonder what they actually think of the product line.... Does it hold up to their riding? Does it work for them with the available adjustments ect....
  • 2 0
@WaterBear: No... Jcolis is actually pretty close.

Note that there DH fork is not available in 29". Don't you think if it was all just rebranding stuff that the lowers would be exactly the same and they'd be available in 29"?

He's also not completely wrong with the Rheeder stuff. LOL!
  • 12 1
The pin striping on Kyle Strait's 'Wild West' Commencal FRS is some seriously radical stuff. Maybe I should have my bike painted...
  • 13 1
My man sharpied his trek session
  • 10 0
"oh man, everybody's got a whatsoever nice custom paintjob bike and mine looks like a stock session Frown " - "no worries mate, hand me a sharpie and hold my beer, i got you."
  • 9 1
 A few comments:
- At this point we're just a couple bikes away from ditching the Red Bull moniker and just call it Commençal Rampage.
- I sincerely admire Tom Van Steenbergen for his inhuman riding skills and general badassery, but gosh only a mother could love those Hiper frames.
- From the amount of votes Semenuk's bike is getting, It seems the "looks like a Session" punch line will ride with us many more years.
  • 2 0
 Damn, didn't know I'm a mother.
  • 8 0
Semenuk has a plain beige frame with sharpies and won the vote
  • 7 0
Man, I ride a Transition and a Suzuki ! Guess which one is my favorite.
  • 2 0
 Need those Yoshimura pedals!
  • 2 0
Best looking bikes I seen in rampage by far. T Mac has an Awesome 2003 Monster T inspired 58 and oldschool Crome / GT logo gets my vote instantly. Also love Kyle Straits paint and Black Box Boxxers are drool worthy. Carson has a nice propain and Kurt has a nice evil. Loving the single crown action I know judges are gonna.
  • 5 0
Fox should release a limited edition Marzocchi Monster replica with Kashima stanchions, that thing is gorgeous!
  • 2 0
Ethan Neil's colorway should be called the reverse @dangerholm . Other than that some amazing details that are lost in some of the pictures Like the rainbow flake in Andreu's commencal, and Godziek's incandescent lightning. But my favorite is the Suzuki transition because it goes a step farther with the attention to detail on the Spec.
  • 5 0
Any else wonder why Zink is on a older model Spartan of all bikes?
  • 1 0
Does the newer model come in alloy?
  • 2 0
maybe the new high pivot version feels too planted and doesn't pop the way he likes? interesting for sure.
  • 3 0
Kind of surprised he’s not on a Wilson.
  • 2 1
@knarrr: yeah interesting as FR's as a whole dont like High pivots but, Zink was singing they're praises when he got on Davinci, sponsorship obligation maybe?
  • 2 0
I’m a Commencal guy , great shop and super convenient in Squamish awesome bikes. I did vote for the Slayer because I want to see what it can do. All bikes are pretty serious though definitely bike porn.
  • 4 0
The paint jobs are almost all unique this year, except for Semenuk's. No Fuks given lol. Very sick to see! \m/
  • 4 0
I feel I should vote for one of the commencals but Tyler's GT is so cool it took my vote.
  • 2 0
Interesting the Transition TR11 is alloy when i'm pretty sure they don't do an alloy version and seems late in the TR11s lifecycle to be releasing one, maybe a one off for rampage so they don't break a carbon one?
  • 1 0
at first glance it looks a lot more like the photos of the new prototype (also alloy) than it does the old carbon TR11.
  • 2 0
Can we have a none of them option. I wouldnt want any of them they range from the truly hideous, especially the ones that have be written on by a 5 year old, to the topping. The Propain is the best of a dreadful bunch
  • 1 0
Interesting to see SR Suntour and X-Fusion suspension components at this event. Why aren't more manufacturers specifying them OEM components on Trail & Enduro bikes? If they can last at Rampage, surely, they can last for the rest of us, and maybe provide a more accessible price point?

Rampage Bikes...That Propain!
  • 1 0
Alex's looks amazing but my OCD is hung up on him in the interview saying his concept was for a "Rattlesnake" and I'm pretty sure that is a Cobra. Amazing work on it though and anything shouting out the once in a lifetime gem Jordie is a win in my books.
  • 1 0
Commencal looks classic. Gets my vote. Trek looks like it has 10ft wheel base. Like those modified motobikes that are used to climb super steep hills, but instead reaching the top, they just hit their riders in the head when tumbling down.
  • 4 1
Not sure how Dylan runs those cranks. Mine bent when my bike fell over in the parking lot.
  • 11 0
He actually bent his crank and hurt his ankle yesterday when he cased a landing.
  • 1 0
First Gwin with the carbon crank stab and now Stark with the alloy crank ankle roll. Shocking that E13’s lawyers still let them make cranks.
  • 3 3
Something about Ethan Nell's bike just looks so nice. It's fat in a really good way. The spots themselves are a little garish but just as a bike... mmmm it's beautiful.

Semenuk's bike made me chuckle, I'm enjoying the silly "paint" job Smile
  • 3 0
I'm offended I couldn't at least pick my top 3 choices.. that first commencal.. and that chrome GT.. gahhh
  • 3 1
I don’t know William Robert, but if I did I would call him Billy Bob. Regardless of his opinion on the matter or how many times he asked me not to.

Billy. Bob.
  • 4 1
Glad that Rampage hasn't turn into a full on barspin-and-tailwhip-down-the-drop contest... yet.
  • 3 1
just wait untill you Stark's quarter pipe........
  • 6 0
wait for Semenuk run scored higher than everyone else cause of that Wink
  • 2 0
At this point if each manufacture isn’t showing off their most extravagant and innovative designs, they are dropping the ball.
  • 2 0
holy moly these Rampage bikes are getting insane! I LOVE it! Beautiful work by all on these paint jobs and builds! Rampage is so f'ing cool
  • 3 0
A polished GT with retro "wings" graphic and a Marzocchi fork. Right back to the old skool - awesome...
  • 2 0
Really like the Shore and Spindrift - they stand out to me for some reason. I like matching lowers but also the marble look on the Shore was done so well.
  • 1 0
Lots of aggressive trail air shocks this year it seems. Suspension getting better? Riders getting better? More tame course? Anyways, Cool to see all the Marzocchis. Love my Z1 coil
  • 1 0
Lots of Mazocchi sponsorships here and that's the only air shock they sell. From what I understand these guys are going air over coil for more progression on the big hits. But yeah it looks like a trail shock to my eye.
  • 3 0
t-mac's fury makes me wish i held on to my mach1 back in the day. that chrome/polish look wrap over the carbon is tittiesss
  • 1 0
 Suspension nerds:
What is going on with the eyelet end of the shock body? Right at the end of the tube is a triangle that appears to be polished by wear. But what the hell from? And at BO? Bad alignment?
  • 1 0
That's on the new Rockshox shocks with hydraulic bottom out. I think it represents the portion of stroke influenced by HBO and is intended to help with setup.
  • 2 1
Everyone seems to be talking about paint. Isn't that literally the least important part of a bike? Suspension choice, rims, cockpit setup, tires. This is more important to me than oh the pretty blue one.....
  • 1 0
FIX , no contest, the NS Fuzz all day long. Almost did the impossible and made a yeti not look like a yeti, apart from the logos. How do commencal manage to make an alloy frame look skinny and still rampage proof.
  • 3 1
Sorge's bike is all-around sick...McCaul's Fury with the throwback graphics is right there too...
  • 2 3
Not too great this year... Still, tough one. I think tied for first is Tmac's GT and Jax's Transition. Jaxson was my favorite last year. Alex Volokov's bike looks GREAT, even though I'm not a fan of the aesthetic. But the execution is outstanding. Same thing for Kurt, theme is meh whatever but the execution is epic. Maybe same artist? Dylan and Ethan's rigs are okay. Lol at Semenuk's knock off Ian Schwartz frame. Love it. I actually had that frame from Sunday. Props for a throwback aesthetic like that. Disappointed by Commencal this year; looks like they forgot about Rampage and had to cook up a basic theme for all riders in a couple weeks...
  • 2 3
What is up with all the commencial bikes? Not only that, but can anyone tell me if Tom Van Steenburgen's Hyper is actually made by Hyper? The same Hyper that makes walmart bikes? I'll keep my opinions about all these paint jobs to myself too.
  • 2 0
Its the same hyper for sure. AFAIK they dont sell the "real" bikes at all.
  • 2 0
I still use Jodie Lunn's 'snake hole' quote on the regular. You win my vote!
  • 1 0
NWD 6! Every time I see a hole or snake on the trail it goes through my head
  • 1 0
Who's bike is the lightest and looks like my daughter could ride it home from school..... but that just shows his abilities are out of this world of riding. Current GOAT!
  • 3 0
McCaul’s has a Super Monster Tribute. Instantly wins my vote.
  • 1 0
Strait’s Commencal is almost too pretty to huck off a cliff. The neon details and then the pinstriping, damn! The black paint looks deep enough to swim in too.
  • 3 1
Wonder how many replacement frames the Commencal riders brought with them?!
  • 3 0
 your moom
  • 2 0
 Saints and Hope brakes...nice!
  • 2 0
When did SRAM release an AXS downhill drivetrain?
  • 9 0
They didnt. Mega custom. Have been looking at it for a while and I think they retrofit a DH cage onto the axs 12speed derailleur, with some fancy custom software to make it all work.
  • 2 0
Trek looks like a Session - ....Biggie Bike for the win?
  • 2 0
That Spartan with the boxxer on it looks dope!
  • 2 0
Wanna see that line up again on Monday
  • 1 0
No fly attendant on the suspension needed, it's already on the riders , ahahhaha
  • 5 3
Semenuk flipping the script once again. Love it.
  • 2 0
That GT is some trumpet polishing material
  • 2 1
"Dude behind us will pay". Ha ha ha, Seems like an already experienced situation. Nice one Mr Semenuk!
  • 2 0
12 x 6 to Air Shock....interesting to see it in Rampage
  • 1 0
is it just me or has Rheeder got two bikes?
I've seen a single and a double crown fork.......
both bikes on his insta too.
  • 1 0
shit, must have been somebody else on the insta..
  • 2 0
@naptime: Semenuk took a Zeb and Boxxer build with him, think the photos were on Rockshox'ss's's'ss's Instagram.
  • 1 0
@CleanZine: yeah cheers! I deffo saw that somewhere. Rheeders deffo on two bikes though. Maybe one for practice an one for the comp runs?
  • 1 0
But nobody's looking at the paintjob when they are cruising into the depths of Utahs´ gnarliness!
  • 2 0
Get your own tyre hot patches but can't line them up with the valves!!
  • 1 0
Don't you think DJ ride a size Large regularly but he changed to size M for rampage?
  • 1 0
Hope established a marketing department? Their brakes were quite expensive even without it
  • 1 0
Jaxson has such a badass style. All his custom bikes are moto-inspired and so is his riding style. KIckass
  • 1 0
I voted for the pink bike on PinkBike-2nd would be the GT. Love the retro themed paint jobs.
  • 2 0
No one is going to mention the AXS DH derailleur on Semenuks bike?
  • 1 0
Need more close ups of the chainstays and 5,000 word articles about them. Thanks
  • 2 0
bruuuh that is one siiiick yt with the leopard pattern wooow
  • 1 0
Billy Bob's NORCO Shore is visually entrancing...paint / rims/rubber just pop out ..Amazing job! Smile
  • 2 0
These bikes are out of this whole world. Absolutely loved all of them.
  • 2 0
If Semenuk wins it would be like Kenyans smashing marathons. Boring.
  • 1 0
Wow somebody copied my decal idea from 2017 for Ethan
If you don’t believe you can checkout my photo album ✌️
  • 1 0
I personally like the "Ready to Die" decal on the HYPER Walmart special! Definitely for the win.
  • 2 0
Wheel sizes would b nice to note.

Ohlins & RS single crowns but no Fox? Stark’s x2/Zeb combo making me think the 38 was intentionally passed over….

SUZUKI, HONDA, YAMAHA and so on...
  • 2 0
 Can I tick them all?
  • 1 0
Looks like a Session will do it.
  • 1 0
Will all the single crown forks get warranty next week for creaky csu's?
  • 1 0
I saw a MONSTER. I clicked. Although the decal is upside down.
  • 2 0
 I pick the Commencal
  • 1 0
Love a photo article like this!
  • 1 1
Almost need to say they all win - nicest 12 bikes I have seen in a very very long time
  • 1 0
Is Rheeder running single speed with a rear mech?
  • 1 0
It's being used as a chain tensioner to allow for some chain growth, but still keeping things tight. You can see something similar on Andreu's bike.
  • 1 0
Yea, there's a lot of single speed's in there -- Reed, Ethan, Szymon, and Andreu like you say -- but the others all seem to be using decicated single speed tensioners

I wonder why Rheeder decided to go with a mech; perhaps it simply works just as well and was already fitted
  • 1 0
@overconfident: yeah, as long as the mech is held in place it functions the same. Clutches in mechs are stronger than a lot of sprung chain tensioners so it'd probably give a lot more tension overall.
  • 1 0
Andreu still on Chickadeehill AWK air system in his Boxxer.
  • 1 0
Once again, Commencal is french or nah?
  • 1 0
Haven't seen a Suzuki since Shogun
  • 1 0
we will always have to see a snake and leopard skin paint job....
  • 2 0
 beach life
  • 1 0
….Welcome to Red Bull / Commencal Rampage? Wink
  • 2 0
 looks like a session
  • 1 0
Kyle Straights "Wild West" is the best looking out of all of them IMO.
  • 1 0
Angle on the Transition makes it look like it has a 70 HTA
  • 1 0
Freeride bike? Yea the GT takes this by miles.
  • 3 1
