by Nic Genovese

Morpheus Cycles' commitment to excellence in the gravity scene has been amplified. In 2012, with the creation of a top tier FMB focused Slope Style team - the sky is the limit. Joining Anthony Messere and Mitch Chubey, Morpheus is proud to announce the welcoming of two additional weapons in their arsenal. Bring out the dogs.

Casey Groves:
Captain Groves pose.

Casey Groves at Dream Land

As a longtime friend of the team and a pure beast on a bike, it was only a matter of time before Casey Groves became an official Morpheus factory team rider. Casey's credentials are undeniable and he's proven himself over and over again. He has a resume longer than the travel on your DH bike and he is a top 10 rider on the world tour in 2010, a podium finisher at Crankworx Whistler, and a star in several feature films. Due to an injury last year Casey was unable to live up to his known potential, but now he is back to mint condition and ready to take on the freeride world. With training underway while many riders rest during the winter, Casey is committed to ensure he is up to compete against and with the best of the best. Check out this exclusive video showcasing Casey on his Morpheus Skyla.

Brayden Barrett-Hay:

Brayden is one of those unique riders that is coming up so fast, most people have never heard of him, but that won’t last long. Brayden has the potential to be a future innovator in the sport of Slope Style. 2011 was Brayden's rookie season and he has already shown some amazing potential with a 12th place finish at Claymore Challenge and a third-place best trick at Andrew Taylor’s showdown. With Morpheus factory team support, a new fleet of top-notch bikes, and some of the best riders in the world to train with, Brayden's upcoming season is looking very bright. We threw together a little edit of Brayden shredding at indoor park “Joyride 150” on his new Skyla, preparing himself for the FMB world tour.

More of a good thing:
Anthony Messere and Mitch Chubey. The gnarly duo is back again for 2012. With consistent results on the 2011 FMB world tour Mitch and Anthony are back to lead the Morpheus Factory Slope Style team. Last year Mitch and his all-around experience proved to be invaluable in achieving top 10 results at virtually every event there was. Always a major podium threat, Mitch took 1st at Upside-Down Underground, 3rd-place at Jumpship Contest, and a 5th place finish at Claymore Challenge. Anthony truly had an unbelievable breakout season and used all of his resources including the experience of his teammate Mitch. In 2011, Anthony Messere forever changed the sport by upping the ante significantly with some new tricks, becoming the youngest competitor ever to podium at Crankworx Whistler, landing the first-ever, in-competition front flip off of a flat drop, and nail double back flips like nobody's business. As the fourth ranked rider in the world, Anthony has solidified his position as a future and current legend in this industry. Check out this exclusive video of Mitch and Anthony at Redbull district showing what they do best.

Why would you cut so many trees!? Next time just build jumps in between the trees, so they're not on your way. Dead Horse

I thought mountain bikers are supposed to protect the natural environment and not f..k it up. I am a city kid from Europe and I am really disappointed when I see that some people who live in a beautiful natural environment have become machine lovers. They f..k up everything with their chainsaws, quads, motorbikes, and pick up trucks. This Casey kid should change occupation and start working as a logger. He sure knows how to ride bikes, but other than that he is sure not a too complex individual if you know what I mean. People these days ride machines, text on machines, play on machines, watch and listen to machines, work out on machines and simply they also have become machines. VERY SAD!

who cares if hes cutting down tree's. mtbers arent the problem. go nag at the logging companys.

Its a sweet ass headtube logo bro.

I LOVE those magical trails that grow themselves. Thats why Whistlers so sick, its almost like the trees got together one night and planned it out just for us.
  • 4 1
@ JImbo that zone is decimated by fire AND logging...and really, a solo tree on a windy exposed hillside doesn't stand a snowball's chance in burning angst!
There's gonna be a house amongst other houses that looks just like that other house there before you know it. Believe me that is no natural environment, come to bc because there is a shit ton!
  • 17 0
Casey, if you could send us a video of you planting six trees. BC regs have a 3:1 habitat compensation ratio. That'd be great. thanks
  • 4 3
jimbo if you live in a glass house don't throw stones, but if you live in a 2x4 studed house that a tree die for don't type, don't drive a car,and go talk to your oil people and see what they say.o and don't put rubber tires on your bike rim ride it,if i make you mad i am sorry. Orlando#27

So far on my friends ranch we just strated building on we cut our trail with a tractor, cut down 3 oak trees and some other tree, offroaded my honda civic, and rode my dirtbike all over..... You deffinatly know i was there when you pull up to the property Smile . Now i do think certain areas of the world do need to be protected and yes i do like how pretty the rest of the ranch is and yes i dont like cuting down oak trees that are older than me but they will grow back eventually and its not the end of the world if you cut down a few trees to build a trail. So @jimbo1980 i hear you buddy but they arent cuting down the whole forest so chill. If they left there garbage all over and just killed forest animals for no reason that would be diffrent but they clearly arent so relax...
  • 13 1
Most of you are missing the point. 1. Nobody said that you cannot cut down trees if you need to. In this case It was not necessary to cut down that tree (especially that it was still alive) 2. Why do you need a whole tree to make fire? 3. Maybe the fact of cutting down one tree is not a significant thing, but when you have 7 billion people on the planet and 3-4 billion living an affluent lifestyle then all those numbers add up. 4. It is not the action that is the main problem, but the ideology. Predators kill other animals because they have to and they evolve in a way that the prey suffers the least possible. So, my problem is that most people think of the planet as a damn resource where everything is there for you to exploit. I recommend you a book to read: REVENGE OF GAIA by James Lovelock.

im pretty shure cutting a tree or two wont end the world..
  • 4 4
Jimbo, chill, Trees are a renewable energy source, and as canada is one of the countries with the densest tree to area ratio in the world, I don't think that anybody can say anything! Killing a couple of trees a year in Canada wont affect anything, as there are so many other trees growing, unlike somewhere being clear felled where hundreds of trees are cut down every day. If he went and clear felled a whole forest, then go in a rant but hell, 1 tree ain't doing anything!
  • 2 2
tbh, i bet he buy velvet toilet rolls to compensate or this little tree misshap.
  • 3 3
dont get your panties in a knot jimbo
  • 2 1
too bad the tree debacle is taking away from the other edits. some super rad riding from the morpheus crew. looks like they'll be hittin' like a cannonball this year.

Yo, Everyone. I just wanted to apologize if I offended anyone for cutting down the tree. While not an excuse, I think its worth noting that we used every single bit of that tree for a full days firewood. It saddens me that this video left people with the impression that I am not conscious about the environment. Besides cleaning up the trails daily, we always try to car pool as much as possible when going anywhere to burn less fuel, and yes, I recycle. I apologize to my fans and sponsors if we left a bad impression. Please understand that this small piece of the video segment is not representative of my daily environmental conduct. Best, Casey Groves
  • 3 3
Wait.... So you got all of those mad skills by riding your biking and not logging? I just wish we had trees to use for trails, oh well Utah dirt rocks.
  • 11 1
Two trees in a bike vid. I don't think you're the sole cause of climate change. PB users, don't ever look at a google earth shot of BC please. You may explode, catch on fire, or cry yourself to sleep. Casey Groves, you ride bikes good. Keep it up.
  • 9 2
One thing a lot of people forget...trees are a renewable resource, yes slow growing, but there still growing. Sorry Jimbo, but cutting down 1 or 2 trees didn't put new holes in the Ozone. Your all good by me Groves, in fact I give props to riding in -6 and staying warm with a fire. That's just good times!
  • 9 1
In Casey's defence, a lot of the trees in that area are dead from the 2003 fire and from the affects of pine beetles... Many blow over in windstorms and a lot of the trail work in Kelowna is spent clearing deadfall.... While I do not condone the cutting of fresh trees, there are bigger issues in that area than 1 tree being cut.
  • 5 1
So Canadian of you, cutting down a tree than apologizing when it offends people. I'm in an environmental program at school at get a bit of heat for being a mountain biker cause some people really see it as destructive to the natural environment. I feel I make up for it by doing more than my part in other departments. People need to chill and focus on the larger problems. Looking forward to seeing more than you just riding the trick jump!
  • 1 0
boys stop bitching about him cutting two trees down one of them was dead and he used the hole thing for a fire so get off his back
  • 3 0
HAHAHAHAHAAH WHAT A JOKE. Your worried about two trees Caseys hackin on private land. Go stop the MASSIVE clearcuts they are doing here in BC. Over 1000+ trees in one day. Go find something better to do. Sierra club is calling..
  • 36 10
damnn wtf whys he cutting down the only green trees on a bare ass hillside?
  • 26 4
Didn't mean to aggravate you by cutting down the trees, sorry.

Yeah, that's awesome... good for Casey. Transition has lost some sick riders this season.
  • 10 1
For all you people who are beaking about the tree cutting.... What u don't realize is that there was a forestfire 5 years ago that came in and killed all these trees so it's not like he's going into a forest killing healthy trees he's cutting down burnt logs
  • 21 0
Thank you! I do admit though the last tree was pretty green but we didnt just waste it, we made resources out of it. To all those that are bitchin' I don't cut them unless I need to.
  • 6 1
And we kinda have lots of trees in Canada last time I checked, and you can't have wood features on a trail without killing a few trees.
  • 13 0
 We wouldnt have houses either...
  • 3 2
You literally cut down 2 trees in the entire video... i dont see why everyone is hating
  • 2 1
me neither, I mean everyone should just stop complaining its not like you went out and cut down a forest, it was only two trees. and great riding by the way.

i knew something was up when he wasn't on the Trans-list for this year... seems like Morpheus will do him well, that's quite the team they've got so far...

  • 16 9
I stopped watching the video to come down and post something about the stupid tree cutting. Glad to see I am not the only one on PB that thinks this is ridiculous. And whoever edited the video is just as guilty. Why would think it was; a) necessary to add that b)a positive way to represent the riders in the video. Poor ethics by all parties involved. If I am Morpheous PR I am livid over this crap.
  • 9 2
To all of you b!tchin about the trees being cut down! I take it, you have never watched mt.bike movies! Cause I'm sure you'd crap a brick wall if you saw the features built in the forests! Do you think all those massive features in the NWD movies, just kinda fell into place, and the pros just ride em? That sh!t takes massive amounts of hard work and skill to build properly! I'm not agreeing with clearcutting; but sometimes you cannot let the flora dictate where your path may go. Sometimes you do have to take bushes and trees out; to make the best trail or feature. Nothin' wrong with cuttin' logs, rippin' planks, and getting a little 2-stroke stoke!!!!
  • 9 1
There was a family of owls in that tree, Casey was simply keeping those creepy things from harming us all in the night.
  • 8 1
wow, Casey's got his tricks down watch out everybody casey makin himself a comeback

  • 3 1
OH MY GOD. THE TREES, THE TREEEES.
how, in the world, does that offend people?
1 tree, 2 tree, 3 tree; clear cut?

shut the f*ck up and go buy some cariboo's, if you feel so inclined. then, at least, you can drink your pain away - while helping plan more trees (maybe)
  • 2 1
How obvious! Of one day to another, the brand is very big! The mountain bike scene is undermined!
Please inform yourselves! why the Movies wanted to be called "New World Disorder", the scene has always been free, and it should stay that way forever! !! Please inform yourselves about the "all seeing eye"!!
