Keira Duncan made the most of local knowledge on the slick rocky trails to take the win from Sam Bull by 25 seconds.

Saturday 3rd of March saw Round 1 of the second season of the 2019 Greg Minnaar Cycles KZN Gravity Series.

The dual hosted event between KZN Gravity MTB and Howick Mountain Bike Club once again, saw an unprecedented number of 174 riders, many traveling from around the country to partake in this event.

The vibe was great as everyone prepped for some rocky stages in the forests around Howick.

The stunning yet technical and rocky trails around Howick in the Natal Midlands once again provided an excellent venue for the opening round of the 2019 Provincial Enduro Cup Series. Howick Mountain Biking Club once again put on a great 4 stage event comprising of technical rock gardens and peddley sections through the scenic Sappi forests. The tricky, sometimes slippery rock sections kept the riders on their toes and the forgiving transitions made the race tough yet incredibly enjoyable for both experienced and new riders alike.

At the end of the day it was home town rider Keria Duncan who took the overall win in the mens with a time of 13:34 with Sam Bull hot on his heels with a time of 13:59. Overall ladies winner was Steffanie Grossman with a time of 18:13, followed closely by Beanie Thies with an 18:31.

The most impressive rider of the day was newcomer Caide Goviea who dominated the hotly contested Sub Junior field with a blistering 16:05 taking the win and 11th overall position.

With the KZN Gravity MTB Development Program now in full swing, under the watchful eye of Tiaan Odendaal, saw one of the new Sub Junior girls riders grabbing a second in the combined Sub Junior/Youth category.
