The weekend of September 8–10 Stevens Pass Bike Park will play host for the final round of another banner year for the NW Cup Downhill Series. For 2017, the NW Cup celebrated 10 years of racing in the Pacific Northwest and from our perspective, it was better than ever. 2017 also brought a new venue into the series, Tamarack Bike Park, further justifying the Pacific Northwest label, or dare we say Cascadia. Teaser alert—we're hoping to fill in the green area a bit more soon.
Another awesome evolution of the series is the demographics. From a primarily 17–35-year-old, predominantly male group, to entire families hitting the track on Sunday. Always awesome to do the parking lot cruise and see who's hanging out with who. The grassroots origins are still strong in that regard.
In addition to that, 2017 has played host to some amazingly tight racing. We expanded the categories by 4 to a total of 26 this year which narrowed the fields and tightened the times. Scrolling through the
overall points , you'll see quite a few categories coming down to September 10th at SPBP. Keep in mind, to qualify for an overall win, you must be at the finals, and only six out of seven count, so you can drop one. Makes it a bit hard to calculate, not knowing who's going to be there next weekend, but that adds to the drama that's about to go down.
And last but not least, your course previews for Stevens Pass.
